Today, we gather to honor the life of my father, Johnathan Jameson. One of the kindest, most humble people I have ever known. He was a man who always put others before himself, especially me.
Growing up without my mother, it was always just the two of us, and my father gave me everything a daughter could ask for. Love, guidance, and a true sense of security. He was my protector.. my rock.
Dad’s generosity knew no bounds. Whether it was a neighbor in need or a stranger passing through, he would offer help without hesitation, never expecting anything in return. Well.. the only thing he did expect was a good meal, and he’d be the first to let you know how much he appreciated it.
He wasn’t just loved by me. He was loved by anyone who truly knew him. His quiet kindness and ability to care for others made him a true hero in this community.
Today, as I stand here, my heart is heavy.. but it’s also full of gratitude. I am so thankful for everything he gave me and for the love he spread to all who were lucky enough to know him.
Thank you, Dad, for your unwavering love and for teaching us all the value of kindness. You will always be remembered, and your legacy of love will live on in each of us.
Rest in peace, old man. Thank you for everything.
--
Kingston: Our deepest condolences, Ellie. John was a good man.
KJ: He really was. Let us know if there’s ever anything we can do to help.
Eleanor: I appreciate you both, thank you so much.
Eleanor: And thank you again for coming.
KJ: Of course! Get home safe, El.
--
Dakota: Oh, come here honey.
Samir: You did such a great job up there, Ellie. John would be so proud.
Dakota: Damn right he would. I know I am.. and I hope you know that you’re not alone in this. So please, don’t for a second hesitate to reach out if you’re ever in need of anything. I mean it, Els.
Eleanor: I know.. And I don’t take that for granted. Thank you, guys.
Samir: Of course, you’re family. Just try to take it one day at a time, okay?
Dakota: He’s right, El. The pain never fully goes away, but in time, you learn how to carry it.
Eleanor: (sigh) I really hope so.
Dakota: Just give yourself some time.
Samir: We love you, Ellie.
Eleanor: I love you guys too.
Dakota: Let us know when you get home, okay honey?
Eleanor: I will. Thank you, guys, for coming.
Samir: You know it.

???: Miss Jameson? I just wanted to say you honored your father today.
Eleanor: Thank you.
???: I watched you up there. The way you spoke about him. His kindness, his strength.. it was beautiful. I know he would have wanted that.. but I also know that deep down, what you really wanted to do was show us your grief. To let it out. And you could have, no one would have thought any less of you.
???: It’s not easy, standing there, smiling through the tears. But you did it anyways.. you stood tall. You reminded us of the man he was, the way he would have wanted to be remembered. That takes strength. And today, you gave him the greatest tribute a daughter could give.
Eleanor: Thank you for your kind words. But honestly, it felt like everyone could see right through me the entire time. The way you speak of him… you knew my father well, didn’t you?
???: Very well. He was a dear friend to me for many years. And actually… there’s something he wanted me to share with you today.

My Dearest Vladislaus,
If you're reading this, it means I'm dead.
I wish I could have written these words under different circumstances, but fate has a way of sweeping us into its current, and I’ve never been able to swim against it. I’m sorry, my old friend, for burdening you with this letter, but I have no other choice. You are the only one I can trust with what remains of my life’s work—and more importantly, with my daughter, Eleanor.
You may not know the full weight of it, but from the moment Eleanor was born, she’s been pursued by a dark spirit. It’s been a shadow over her life, a presence I’ve never been able to fully understand, and one I’ve been desperately trying to protect her from. No matter how many tomes I pored through, how many arcane rituals I attempted, I could never uncover the true reason for this malevolent force that clings to her. All I know is that it is relentless.
For her sake, I did everything I could to keep her unaware of the danger. She didn’t deserve to live in constant fear, to grow up knowing that something wicked was waiting for her, always watching, always lurking. I wanted her to have a life of joy, innocence, and normalcy—if such a thing was ever possible for those of her kind.
But as you know, life doesn’t always bend to our will. And so, as much as it pains me to admit, I realize now that my time may soon run out. I don’t know how much longer I have before it all catches up with me, but I fear that without me here, Eleanor will be vulnerable in ways I can’t shield her from.
This letter was spelled to reach you by a witch I trusted, should anything happen to me. I’m sure you’ve never needed to be told how much I value your wisdom, your experience, and the strength you carry with you, but I do so now. You are the only person—no, the only being—I trust with her life.
You see, Vladislaus, Eleanor will need you. She will need someone with your power, your ancient understanding of the world’s shadows. Someone who can protect her from the darkness that will no doubt close in now that I’m gone. Please take her into your care. Teach her, guard her, love her as you would your own. I know I ask a great deal, but there is no one else.

???: A letter from Mr. Jameson, sir.
—
You’ve always been a steadfast friend to me—though many may not know it, or misunderstand you for the “rude, grumpy old vampire” they imagine you to be. To me, you’ve always been much more than that. You’ve been a brother, a confidant, and someone whose presence in my life made even the darkest of days feel a little lighter. I’ve trusted you with my secrets, and now, I entrust you with my daughter’s future.
I will never be able to repay you for the kindness you’ve shown me. I only hope that, in this, I can offer you a sliver of the same trust and friendship you’ve always given me.
Take care of my girl, Vladislaus. I will forever be grateful to you for doing so.
Goodbye, my dear friend.
With all my heart, Johnathan Jameson
—
Eleanor: Dad?! DAD!! Dad, please wake up!!
