I Really Like Root Beer Floats
6 posts
Previously just a meme blog, this page is a place for me to blog about root beer floats, share any thoughts I have about root beer floats, judge different brands of root beer, (all personal opinions, of course), and maybe still have some memes too.

Stewart's Root Beer is an absolutely amazing brand.
In my personal opinion, the best kind of root beer needs to be more savory than sweet. If it's overwhelmingly sweet, it's hard to drink a whole bottle and not feel sick. But on the other hand, if it's overwhelmingly savory, it becomes a completely different drink- it needs to be sweet enough to be a treat, not just any regular, savory drink, but savory enough that it's stomach-able.
Stewart's fits those criteria beautifully. It definitely has a strong bite to it's first sip, but afterwards, you get a pleasant, sweet aftertaste. On top of that, it's made with cane sugar, which is my favorite sweetener in the history of the world.
I've yet to try it in a root beer float, however, and to be completely honest... I'm not so sure it'd do too great. I could sing this root beer's praises for days on end drinking it normally, but while it has a wonderful savory to sweet ratio, the savory comes in right away while the sweetness is more of a background note.
For root beer floats, you should still have savory, but sweetness should be the primary note. Using Stewart's for a root beer float means your main source of sweetness comes exclusively from the ice cream, and I have a feeling the two extreme notes of flavor coming together in the same cup might clash.
As it stands, I give Stewart's a 10/10 regular, and undetermined/10 for root beer floats.
Will update later with the second rating.

A&W is a classic, and I feel like it's what most people think of when they hear the phrase "root beer". I think A&W is definitely not only good on its own, but amazing in root beer floats. It creates a lot of foam, is savory enough to not be overwhelmingly sweet (especially when paired with ice cream!), but sweet enough that it definitely fits in with the dessert-style drink category that root beer floats fall nicely into. My overall rating is an 8/10 regular, with a 9/10 when used for a root beer float.

My little sister opted for a fanta float instead but still yummy (also I'm a little blind so the pictures are super zoomed in because I can't see and therefore my picture taking skills are horrible, I don't think if others can register what the image is)
I served them up on the last of the plates left over from her birthday and we sat on the porch and made a mess, but was fun. Thankyou for the idea!!

Root beer floats hold a good memory for me, I haven't had one in 10 years, hhhh I was 8 the last time I had one, I was visiting a lady named June at her nursing home, we made root beer floats and walked around the garden looking at the birds she liked. Finding you account brought up memories with her and others that I practically forgot
hey, that's really sweet!! like the sweetness of a delicious root beer float. I literally only have three posts so far, but I'm glad you were able to find me and recall those memories
you should go celebrate with a scrumptious root beer float. it's been very long since you've had one. we all deserve to have more root beer floats in our lives
