a rare but not too uncommon occurrence, such natural growths on an elf (or half-elf, though that is even rarer still) with an affinity for the woodlands are either ridiculed or revered depending on which culture an individual hails from that chances upon one such person. most elves and half-elves usually treat them as a sign from the gods, while the ignorance of other species, more often than not — humans are prone to mockery or vile remarks.

as for the appearance itself, the branches on one’s head usually extend outwards and upwards — almost akin to antlers but typically more unruly — such as is the case of irrasmus; but can also occasionally wrap around like a nest or a crown. there are nerve endings in these branches and roots which results in an individual being able to feel sensations when people touch them.

for irrasmus specifically, his day-to-day life mostly isn’t negatively impacted by such growths... once he’d learnt how to live with it: such as needing to account for his height when ducking under a low bar, or crawling in tight spaces. though one of the main issues the crown prince faces is that he can't really sleep on his back and neck unless he has a specialised sleep contraption, a deepened bed sunken in where the head should be and/or thick malleable soft pillows to rest his branches on.

as he grew up so too did the branches and roots on his head, almost like a crown befitting of his status as the crown prince of umoria.

enjoys spending his time either studying or around nature, always returned to the castle dirtied and with leaves on him.

very in tune with nature and can often be seen whispering to the trees and animals.

has mostly learnt to not care what other people think about his strangeness, physical or behavioural.
