Due to me not willing to kill myself to draw all the Meekly siblings together, I’m just going to do a basic info post of them.
Oldest to youngest are Bartholomew, Abel, Dorothea, Gideon and Eliza. (See what I did there?)
During the war, the brothers have separate ideals; Bartholomew is neutral as he is recently married and more focused on providing for his new family. Abel is a Loyalist and the only gunsmith of a family whose trade is being a cooper. However despite not agreeing with Gideon’s ambitions of joining the Continental army, Abel provides his younger brother his prized gun for protection.
Dorothea has the entrepreneurial spirit of the family to make and sell needlework goods for potential buyers during the war. Eliza is her little helper.
The Meeklys reside in Westmoreland County Virginia (the birthplace of George Washington and James Monroe).
Two of the siblings will have a connection to my War of 1812 storyline featuring puckish apothecary apprentice Fletcher Sage.
Not that it matters much but, today I consider it my AmRev OC Gideon Meekly’s birthday. I remember talking to an acquaintance last year about how there needs to be more Amrev stories so I thought of “Blue Valor” based off Stephen Crane’s novel “Red Badge of Courage.
I haven’t given the idea up!

AmRev oc Gideon Meekly

This took every ounce of art ability I had. I am currently suffering from severe burnout but managed to do something for my lil soldier boy’s birthday. At least there’s now a visual for whenever I mention my soon to be jaded child.

Carlos Ramos: I think the most difficult thing with animation comedy is the joke has to match the visual, and I think a lot of shows have this kind of 'perfection style' now where things are very well drawn, and I think that can kind of hurt it. If a show is going to have that sort of what we used to call 'The good bad drawing' it has to be an adult show now. I'm working on this... I don't know, let's call it a top secret thing, but but they've been very excited about letting me draw weird again, and it's been wonderful to get that back because sometimes you don't know if you can do it anymore. Luckily the the creators of the show get very excited when I deliver something strange. Doug Langdale: I really miss it. Really, all of the sort of Disney tween sitcom shows like Weekenders, Pepper Ann and Recess... they all had slightly wonky styles that I found very endearing. [Source: Cartoon Insiders Podcast]
