Burning Anchors

New hunters are in town. Their 'shoot first, ask questions later' method usually isn't an issue for Danny. Normally he would just laugh as bullets sailed harmlessly through him. Normally he would just fly away with a cocky solute and a delighted grin. But these hunter's aren't normal. They know what they're doing. Now Danny and the rest of Amity's ghosts are in real danger.

Know what I need more of, is the Fenton parents going full mama bear on the GIW to protect their kids. The Fenton parents finding out their son is part ghost partly because the GIW tried to catch him and hurt their baby boy. The Fenton's can be dense and prone to tunnel vision but they do not threats to their kids lightly.

Wow, what an insightful question!

So part of the issue when dealing with ectons functioning via ecton fusion and trying to make it "work" for the real world, is that what ends up happening, is that you find ghosts are really really fucking powerful. We're not just dealing with your stereotypical "Working an office job, my sedentary TDEE is 1640 calories a day!" thermodynamics anymore, we're now dealing with tens of thousands of calories PRODUCED per day—because remember, ecton fusion (aka hydrogen fusion) produces energy.

So if you take Danny's core for example, and you say, okay, let's do some hydrogen fusion and have the ectons functioning as leptons—in between an electron and a muon—except for some odd physics reason they're stable now, in order to have enough mass for the ghost core to work as a plasma (so that ghosts are less dense than humans), you need a lot of concentrated ectons fusing and some physics later now Danny produces approximately 50,000 calories per day.

Of course, since he's a halfa, he also has human biology and normal ATP cycle stuff. But if you want to fuse this with his ghostly biology, you can also integrate ectons into the electron transport chain. The energy produced via this cycle, because remember human biology thermodynamics doesn't burn nearly the calories that the ghost biology would, is sorta negligible as a result. Like sure, Danny's body maybe gets some extra byproduct as a result (it's already got a fuckton of helium it needs to expel from the fusion stuff), but any ecton energy ATP stuff is just a little snack in comparison to the energy from his core.

Because his core turns into what's essentially a hydrogen bomb waiting to blow, it would need another organ to process and filter all this stuff—energy, byproduct, etc—so that he doesn't murder the rest of his body.

Oh, speaking of the rest of his body, since you were wondering of course, his body should basically be melting and filled with cancer and constantly dying due to what is again a nuclear reactor in his body. That's like Cancer R Us type of radiation sickness he should be getting every microsecond. Because Danny has a healing factor, I imagine a good portion (or small portion? It's hard to tell at this point) of Danny's energy production gets used up just keeping him alive. Like, constant, 24/7 cell repairing and reproduction stuff.

So back to your original question, Booty McTooty, is that if Danny were cut off from a steady supply of hydrogen atoms that has ectons instead of electrons—if you were going with my ecton AU as I'm dubbing it—is he would actually probably die from radiation poisoning first before his core officially ran out of energy. That death would likely be fast but yes very very painful.

What's he doing in Blüdhaven? What happened with his parents? Or was that a lie he told instead of saying, "My best friend is a hero, and I know first hand how much help you sorry suckers actually need"? How old is he here? Where is Danny? And more importantly, does he get his bike back?

I desperately want to read more of this (hint hint). But I might write a oneshot or something eventually maybe

Imagine Danny figuring out how to use his powers to play dead.

Learns how to conceal or stop his heartbeat while maintaining human form and then chills his body temp and holds his breath. He learns how to act like a corpse and promptly becomes an absolute menace with this new power.

Ok, listen. I know, I KNOW that "Phantom Planet's Not Canon Fuck You." Okay?

But just. Hear me out for a second.

Do Halfas Need To Breathe In Ghost Form?

Okay so this is a really lowkeye "debate" (I say that in quotes because it's more just that people have different headcanons and tbh this is the best way anyway because, you know, fuck canon death of the author and all) as to whether or not Danny needs to breathe in halfa form. And while I, like most people, just sorta decide whether or not he needs to breathe based on whatever my fanfic plot needs, I actually think, canonically at least, there is some solid evidence that no, actually, they don't need to breathe in ghost form.

There's a few times in canon where Vlad is choking Danny mid-fight and Danny looks more mildly annoyed than seriously panicked about it, but you can largely chalk that up to Kid's TV Screening Filters, so I don't put much weight on those.

However, there are some moment that sticks out more than the rest. And that's when Danny and Vlad are in space.

Yeah, uh, I'm talking about Phantom Planet.

So initially, both Danny and Vlad are shown to be wearing helmets that presumably have oxygen filtering through them. Now now, I know what you're thinking: Lexx, wouldn't this mean that they do need to breathe in ghost form?

My theory isn't that they can't breathe in ghost form, my theory is that they don't need to breathe in ghost form. There's a difference.

I also think that they probably don't exactly want to test the theory if they have to breathe or now. Better safe than sorry, so let's wear helmets!

(Also, side note, this furthers the other lowkeye "debate" as to whether or not they get seriously cold in their ghost forms because, uh, they're in space with no spacesuit)

But I digress. Here they are shown with helmets, suggesting that they do have some breathing capabilities, even in ghost form.

But at the end of the episode, we see Vlad here chilling on a space rock, no helmet in sight, looking perfectly fine albeit disappointed and bored.

This, obviously, suggests that halfas do not need to breathe in ghost form. And I think Vlad literally just discovered that as soon as he was ejected to space sans helmet.

So my theory is, while Danny and Vlad have the organs required for breathing and do breathe as a reflex automatically, when put in situations like outer space where oxygen is not available, their ghost half takes over a little more and they stop breathing. I think this is such an automatic thing that when this change happens in day to day life (like Danny being choked by Vlad mid ghost-fight), that like how us humans don't actively think about breathing, we just kinda do it, they don't really notice it either.

So that's my theory. I'm so sorry for needing to cite Phantom Planet here. I'm sure there's other things you can pull from canon too, but this was just the most obvious. Again, headcanons ftw, okay peace out ✌️
