like idk bro herbaria in general have been on the ropes for a looooong time. duke got closed in biden's america (one of the largest herbaria in the southeast, no one has any idea what to do with the specimens), the herbarium at my school gets cast offs from the IT department because they can't afford shit like mousepads. i just cannot sympathize with people complaining about a lack of funding and support when botany, as a fucking science, has been suffering from a lack of funding and support for decades. i simply cannot care about the plight of people that have been getting the lion's share of the public attention, funding, and support for literally ever. i need to put on my oxygen mask before helping others please fuck all the way off acting tortured because you're experiencing a fraction of what botanists deal with

ok no fr that one time that i delivered to a guy that ordered through uber eats and gave me the wrong door code AND didnt give me the uber eats number so i had NO WAY to contact him and get inside the building so i had to ask random guys on their balcony to let me in AND THEN DIDNT COME TO THE DOOR WHEN I KNOCKED..... absolutely insane that things like orienteering and research project experience are make-or-break qualifications for an internship but basic plant id skills are not. they arent willing to teach me how to manage a proprietary database but they WILL teach someone what an english ivy is. im going joker mode

speaking of not being able to get it together: my advisor and i had a meeting at the beginning of the month and shes nice but also not very helpful and she was quite adamant that i would literally suffer and die in plant path if i didnt take babys first ppws class first (plants genes people) as if i am some dumbass that needs to be introduced to the concept of plant diseases and only knows things through college classes and couldnt possibly be passionate about the subject outside of school

anyways we did that meeting in a park near unc because i was just at the herbarium. for fun. 3 hour drive from home btw.
