The Moon & Venus 🌙🌟

I achieved a bunch of things this year that I really wanted to do and I'm proud of that - doing more traditional printmaking, a gallery exhibition, collaborative zines, worked on my shop and received a huge amount of support from many places (big thanks, you lot💜).

But to get a little more sombre for a moment - what I've achieved is remarkable, yet a lot of what I wanted to do fell by the wayside given that this was also the year my dad died and this was a huge loss that I cannot fully articulate right now.

I am trying to remain patient with myself, but I'm also hopeful that in the new year I can find more time to create and progress with the many things that I want to do. I hope what I make will continue to resonate with others as much as it expresses my own feelings and experiences.

Discomedusae - Purple-striped Jelly (chrysaora colorata) / Moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita) 🪼

Earlier this year, I delved into the world of cyanotype prints for the first time, and these are the fruits of my labour. I'd wanted to try out the cyanotype medium for a while, and to make some artwork inspired by the ocean. I found this to be the perfect medium for capturing the ethereal nature of jellyfish, and representing the deep blue of the ocean.

Creating cyanotypes involves working with elements of nature - the light of the sun to expose the prints, and water to wash them, which also felt appropriate here.

Both of these original prints are available for sale in my shop here! I don't usually sell originals of my work and don't currently have plans to make more of these prints, at least not for some time, so it's a rare opportunity to get something unique.

Ancient records tell of an exalted Ronkan priestess who consigned her mortal flesh to flame, and in death rose anew, her soul eternally bound to the Greatwood. For thousands upon thousands of years has she watched over these lands.
