BRANDING - Deliver
for this i wasn’t able to do any of the printing i would have liked to, so i used mockups to present my work the way it would have looked if i had. These mockups were also useful for the the advertising one things suck as bus stops. I also got to learn how to use and understand photoshop a little better in the process.

BRANDING - Develop 4
I started doing a lot of drawing to help me figure out the way i wanted my brand to look, i believe all the drawing and sketching was very helpful in polishing the logo and the typeface. I wanted to make sure i had all the right colours, so i tested out different pastels of the original colour palette and ended up finding a primary and secondary colour palette for all the branding and illustrations i had in mind for making the deliverables.
I also decided exactly what i was going to produce as the touch points for the brand. for example i wanted to illustrate and create my own sellable item for the brand as well as all the promotional and functional pieces of design to represent it. These illustrations do carry on into the designing of the brand advertising to make sure all the colours a illustrations make sense with one another when comparing the items i have designed.

BRANDING - Develop 3
logo and type. I had to look at a lot of imagery to make sure i was going to produce the correct thing for my brand. i looked at other brand logos and the logos of other galleries to get my inspiration. i liked the idea of having the logo as the name of the brand with some sort of illustration as the text fill. the typeface wasn’t awfully hard to figure out because i new i wanted something modern and youthful rather that the typefaces used right now by other galleries which are quite serious and formal looking. For me i didn’t want it to be so serious because the experience is meant to be comfortable and easy going.

BRANDING - Develop 2
Naming was the hardest part of the development of the brand, i found it hard to come up with something that felt right to me, as well as something that would work effectively for the brand and its values. I spent the most time on this and kept changing my mind as to what looked, sounded and felt right. i ended up settling with NOVOS as the name because of the way it looks symmetrical and it meaning being new in latin as well as linking to the word ‘youth’.

BRANDING - develop
i started off by exploring colour theory and emotion, linking colours to places, brand, objects and people. This helped me to find the right personality of the colours i wanted to use to display the brand. i wanted to the colours to be fun and exciting, convey creativity and warmth and joy.

BRANDING - Define 2
I am now on the idea of partnering with interior design brands, in particular IKEA. This is so artists can design their own space full of their art and have a chance to collaborate with the brand in partnership. For example they could redesign an IKEA own brand chair with their unique design or pattern., this would be an affordable and limited edition item that forever ties the artists to their experience with the interior brand.
I started laying out all the outlines and restrictions for the way i want the gallery to function within other brands specifically IKEA, and visualising the kinds of art and spaces there will be.

BRANDING - Define
idea generations and conversations with people outside of my graphic design bubble. This helped me to understand better whats missing from the art gallery world. i had multiple ideas including pop ups and using other brands with my own to make it function. I tried to figure out a way of combining as many of my ideas as possible to get the real essence of the brand values and aims. i also had a lot of help from conversations with my learning team and bouncing ideas off one another to help define my direction. Leading onto the outcomes and how i want my brand to be seen and experienced by my audience. I wanted to find a way to make my brand feel homely and comfortable, not so sterile and bare looking.

BRANDING - Discover 2
This is where i started looking at imagery and what i wanted to have my gallery looking like if i went for the pop up gallery. I made these pages to inspire myself when i was brainstorming and help visualise the ideas when they came up.

BRANDING - discover
this is the section where i began my research and looked into the things that were already happening in the the art world. There were lots of interesting things galleries are doing but what they lack is an interesting space and interaction with their audience. i looked at different locations and thought that choosing a place like bristol would be great because of the amount of young people there that are lacking an interesting gallery experience.

BRANDING - week 9 - main task - Brand language
This task was to do something very similar to the last one but put it all together nicely as a page that could clearly show the brand language. i spoke about the rationale for the new brand name and the brand story, this story stayed the same throughout the process after idea generation.

BRANDING - week 9 - quick workshops
twenty names twenty minutes - this speaks for its self in that i had to come up with basically as many names as possible in the time, i went through lots of different techniques like looking at objects related to the brand, feeling, action, colours, other languages. I found that latin worked well because it was a universal language, and there are interesting words that can come from latin translations. The name that i settled with at the time was CREO which is a partial spelling of a latin translation from the phrase ‘deliver create’.

BRANDING - week9 - quick workshops
if my brand were a - This activity was interesting in that i had to personify my art gallery by thinking about the audience and what i want to convey. i had to think of a word, famous person, car and colour to describe my brand. i chose orange, harry styles, a small yellow cheap car and the word ‘relax’.

LANGUAGE - Week 9 - activity 1 - good vs bad language
This task was to find some advertising or a brand that has good brand language and a brand that has bad brand language. This activity was to help understand the ways in which a brand could be easily understood by the language they use, and how a brand could get the tone wrong and cause upset by the branding they have used. The image below explains what i did.

BRANDING - Week 8 -activity 3 - day in the life
After figuring out the audience i had to describe the day in the life of the sort of person my brand is for. This day was similar tot he sort of day i would have because i am essentially the audience for my brand as a student. I decided to exaggerate the day to make it have more personality.
