#authoraugust21 Do you edit as you go along or do you do a first draft? I’m a hybrid as I do both. I always go back and reread previous chapters to refresh my memory and get into the zone for writing the next half. I can’t help but edit as I do that. As a lovable protagonist, Dean Winchester is just, like, the full package.

He’s got the selflessness, the unflinching moral code, the drive to always do the right thing. But he’s also got the charm, the wit, the vital little moments of authenticity found in his consistent indulgence of the small joys of life. His many interests and hobbies are varied and well-explored.

Then there’s his tragic backstory, and how it deeply informs his personality and self-regard. Our hearts break for him when he sees himself as expendable, worth only about as much as he can be useful to others. We see his undying loyalty to those he loves, his constant giving of every aspect of himself. He is constantly burdened by guilt, despite it rarely being warranted.

He’s also a badass of the highest regard, having defeated droves of enemies through skill and strategy, many more powerful than himself. He’s the most competent of his kind, and boasts countless awesome fight scenes and villain showdowns.

He’s incredibly persuasive and influential, having turned the cosmic tides more than once with just his passion and will and empathy. Yet he never succumbs to ego or lust for power, and never thinks himself above anyone else.

He’s smart, resourceful, goofy, charismatic, sweet, brave, loving, affectionate, and also utterly fearsome and deadly to his enemies. 

And, to cap it all off, he’s got a face carved by angels and huge, expressive, vulnerable eyes that’ll pierce into your soul and melt it to goo. 

He is beautiful, both within the story and outside of it. Pretty much every positive, enjoyable, and sympathetic trait you could possibly find in a fictional protagonist can be found in Dean Winchester.
