APRIL 2020 FAKEATHON 

This year has certainly taken a strange turn, hasn’t it? With so many of us stuck at home and looking for ways to pass the time, it seems like the perfect opportunity to design fake Pokémon and share them with the world!

Q. What is the Fakeathon?

The Fakeathon is an art challenge that runs for a month, similar to inktober. The goal is to create one fake Pokémon per day following a list of daily prompts. Anyone can participate, and you are free to use any method of art, from digital to traditional to pixel art or any other style you choose!

Share your art with the world using the hashtag #Fakeathon2020 on social media, starting on April 1 when this challenge begins!

Theme: Around The World

We may be stuck at home, but we can still imagine what it would be like to travel the world. For this Fakeathon, every day is a different country. Your challenge is to create a fakemon inspired by that country in some way, whether it be its landmarks, wildlife, culture, or mythology. Our hope is that this will be a way to discover world cultures! (Please be careful and considerate of other cultures and try not to create designs that are offensive!)

Every listed country contains a link to its respective Wikipedia article - be sure to check out these pages for inspiration and to learn a little bit about every place!

A Sword and Shield top left insignia is optional and free

To use one of the Type insignias from Sword and Shield l, at least 2/3 of your team must be that type. The other insignias don't need a qualification, especially Team Yell, cause who doesn't love Marnie?

Each day, give at least one Pokemon from the prompt so one of the new trainers in Galar can have a meaningful friend to journey with.

In the spirit of giving, please follow these guidelines:

A friendly name! Something that has meaning it that could have meaning

Use the lowest evolutionary stage, so that it can grow with it's new trainer

Also encouraged: Shinies, Hidden Abilities, High IVs, and Version Exclusives

I think this deserves a repost this week

One day, as you come home, you hear your crazy neighbor, Peter, making noise hysterically in the backyard. As you go out to investigate, he pulls you over to his yard to show you his new invention. You’ve always thought he was crazy, but have enjoyed his wild stories and ideas. This isn’t the first time he has pulled you aside to show you an invention, but this is the most excited you’ve ever seen him. He’s always been paranoid about his secrets, and this time, he has hidden his new invention under his couch cushions. He lifts up a cushion, and in a flash of light, you are transported somewhere else. In seconds, you have traveled a thousand years into the future, where the modern culture has actually taken a lot of inspiration from the decades following the 1980s and 90s. Because of this, it looks like not muich has changed, except for the environment, which has been affected by centuries of rising sea levels. Because of this, most structures are mostly or entirely underwater with protective glass or stone walls surrounding them. Pop culture of the era has reflected that of classic films like Star Wars and Back to the Future, with fashion like the former being popular, and inventions like the latter being completely replicated. Many women have integrated round and angular hairstyles, and many teenagers use real hoverboards as transportation. Bands like the Backstreet Boys, One Direction, and Big Time Rush have become major icons again, inspiring one boy band after another to form. The strangest thing of all is that there is a group of people that are leading the world government in secret, and they are actually genetically modified individuals that have been living and watching the world for centuries. The oldest, a woman who looks like she is very young and is in fact in perfect health even though she is more than 800 years old. Through conversation, you realize that she is actually your descendant by 5 generations, and she is one of the people who influenced the resurgence of boy bands, since she helped promote a classic song until it became multi-platinum in the new era because of its prophetic lyrics. The song is by the Jonas Brothers, and this is the year 3000.
