RTE gets extremely moody when Blitzwing hasn't been around for a couple days-- and he can sense it through their conjunx bond, since it's pretty intense from them. it's... not fun, and kind of irritates Blitz in turn.

13. What's the most noticeable physical attribute of your s/o to you?

on the flip side Blitz unintentionally projects a lot of his chronic pains on RTE through the bond. it's very mild most of the time, but RTE hates the helmaches.

basically, being so bonded they sense each other physically and emotionally does have some notable drawbacks x"D

I mean. I kinda have to say faceplates for both ekcjsnskssn. Blitzy's got that Whole Situation. RTE has a digital screen. it's easy to not notice anything else 😂😂

YES. they're insufferable. and yes the affection often looks like arguing (because it is) but also there's so much actual affection. Blitzy's slightly more reserved but he takes little convincing especially if he feels inclined to show somebot up. or if Random gets the urge to smother his raticon in love (which happens frequently) both genuinely and to disgust everybot else. RTE on the other hand can and will establish dominance by being affectionate at any opportunity-- generally being clingy, using nicknames, snarling at whoever is standing too close. like I said. insufferable<3

20. What went through your head when feelings were confessed?

hearing Blitzwing's admission confused RTE more than anything else-- not negatively, simply just "wait, what? (is that allowed? towards me?) what do I do now? (is that what this is? do I have a name for it now?)" once again. rip Bluescreen she did not anticipate what happens next with her bff. wym the Quintesson wants to kiss you. wym you want to do it BACK. :disgustedrat:

when he did finally get a positive response, Blitz certainly was relieved-- and a little bemused, though whether it was because RTE felt the same or just that they had no idea that's what it was, well. he still teases them about it from time to time. "ha, big bad raticon had a crush on me!" "I didn't KNOW THAT. also we're MARRIED? "embarrassing~"

DO THEY EVERRRRRRRRR. SO BAD. both of them btw. they're both horrifically overprotective. and both of them are so okay with that ✨

they actually don't have jealousy issues fkcjdndks. both of them have close friends (RTE has Bluescreen, Bumblebee, Starscream, Knockout, and Soundwave lowkey, Blitzwing has Lugnut bc that's the ONLY other bot who can handle him) but like. they're so obsessed with each other, there's no concern from either of them. no one else is as good as each other.

they're just viciously protective 💖 RTE does not need protecting by any means but they LOVE letting Blitzy fight for them. it's enrichment for him and they get to watch him show off. what did you say about his conjunx ??? he doesn't need an excuse to fight but OH MAN. talk shit get HIT. but also just "this one's for you, babe" type shit (he Would Not Say That. you get the idea tho). RTE is so overprotective it's an actual issue and Blitzy is perfectly fine with that. do you want me to kill that guy for you? please let me kill that guy for you. don't even LOOK at my conjunx I will fucking eat you and it will not be pleasant for you. like I'm so serious when I say Blitz and RTE are "get yo fuckin dog bitch" "it don't bite" "YES IT DO"

Blitzwing of course loves RTE's unapologetically feral energy-- like, actually feral, growling teeth bared fighting a bot. no one else even wants to keep up with Blitzy's unhinged behavior, but he has to keep up with RTE. (and they're softer towards those they like, but Blitz gets the genuine soft RTE. something something you could tear me apart with those sharp teeth yet bite so gently) (he's also the only one who can really reign them in. even Starscream can't always keep RTE in line but if Blitz said down boy RTE would do it. they'd probably argue with him about it but they'd be sitting on the floor while they talked back. Blitzwing does not feel inclined to do this unless it's something to do with Megatron and they both really need to keep it together.)

RTE somewhat similarly loves that Blitzwing won't hesitate with them (and can handle the same attitude in exchange!). RTE's a small, light frame with a hairtrigger temper and everything about them tends to make the average bot handle them carefully (or not at all). it's beneficial to be underestimated or simply not bothered in the first place but Blitzwing has never second guessed being rough with them. the constant bickering, the playfighting, even the way Blitz will literally throw RTE into the middle of a fight-- RTE isn't some fragile thing, and Blitz has always been on the same page about it. (not that RTE minds being Starscream's pet rat, Bumblebee's quiet music buddy, or even Bluescreen's listener-- Blitzwing is just the bot they 100% don't need to hold back with.) (RTE has a lot of B names in their circle. and S names. we need some variety around here 😂😂)

What was your first impressions of each other?

heh, I won't count "how the frag does this thing have a spark" from RTE. but it's too funny not to mention. even if it's a completely reasonable response to a mass produced weapon drone having a life signal ✨

Blitzwing (after the initial "how am I not dead") reasonably didn't trust this enemy Cybertronian... but also, they were humming some little old world song, and against his better judgement Blitz thought perhaps they weren't that bad. he still expected them to, y'know, take information and kill him when they were done.

RTE meanwhile didn't have much impression beyond "this thing is a pain in the aft" (Blitz constantly messed up whatever fix they tried to do for a while) until they hooked up a voice synthesizer for him and he pretty much immediately started cursing at them in Quintesson. which RTE found immensely funny. that's where the nickname Sparkfire came from 💖

Favorite memory of each other?

okay let's be real, both of these idiots are so obsessed with each other they have countless memory files of photos and thoughts and all that. like there's SO MANY favorite memories.

Blitzwing's biased-- he'll say the moment he knew RTE was the one, when they helped him learn to fly again the first time, whenever he's asked. but man. the pride on RTE's faceplate when they come home after a good day scavenging (or when Blitz himself scavenges something good!). their protective habits when they're about to crash. the way they pretend to hate his awful puns but can't keep the smile off their screen. wait where'd everybody go <- he started rambling and everyone got annoyed and left the room

RTE has a different answer every time. the first time Blitzy sang to them, seeing his optics light up when he got his Seeker frame, the first time they got to fight together, even the late night Blitzy all but begged them to sneak out so they could go explore Earth-- which RTE did not understand, but how could they say no? at the end of the day though-- RTE will never forget both first times they got to lay on him lmao. that rat has one braincell and it's protect Blitzy by laying on him. but that first you're here, you're okay, you're with me, is so comforting and reassuring to RTE, in a way. 💖

25. What is something your s/o does that cheers you up instantly?

it's actually pretty easy to cheer Blitzwing up, no matter what he's down about. granted RTE's first response is always "do I need to kill a guy" but that's to get Blitz to talk about it. I mean. they actually will kill a guy but. yeah. anyway. Blitzwing needs to complain vent about whatever is going on, and just have his conjunx's undivided attention-- which RTE is happy to give him! RTE purring and clicking their teeth at Blitz makes him feel better immediately every time. extra helpful if they let him snuggle them; RTE prefers not to be the one getting held, so it really means something when they allow the plush rat treatment, hehe.

RTE meanwhile might depend on what upset them, but usually a stupid pun, snarky comment, or promise to eat the bot responsible gets them to laugh right away. it's really hard for RTE to stay upset around their conjunx! nothing is a replacement for physical contact though-- while RTE isn't an affectionate type around most bots, they're very clingy with Blitzwing and just being close to him feels like recharging. put that rat on their conjunx's shoulders. they will feel better.

Hai, hello, hello (sudden thought moment and I only know one place)

I've heard about this headcanon before maybe maximum three times and it was only this piece of information and no more: when flying Blitzwing swings towards this side, when driving it's the opposite side and Random... just moves chaotically (I forgot which one was towards right and which one was towards left, but y'know T-T)

When it comes to the triple-changer's design and transformations: left_leg=left_jet_engine=left_tank_track and same goes for the right side

Thus, I think that headcanon suggests that bro's tank tracks on one side function a bit worse than on the other (not going the "this functions better" yapping route because... y'know 💀). Meanwhile, there is an imbalance between the jet engines, one of them not working as well as the other (the opposite one to the side with a faulty tank track).

Something merely being up with the processor instead? In case of Random, sure, but it does look more like a mechanical issue.

In my HCs the result of the reconstruction itself (I used translator for this word and I don't think that it's precise enough x_x) was partly influenced by BA and partly because of the triple t-cog adjusting, and

Wouldn't be surprised if BW never had it checked 🤨, but I also wonder if that could be something unfixable

I definitely agree with you-- it sounds more mechanical and related to the triple changer reconstruction. maybe a result of Blackarachnia just not being 100% on the building process, or from the tcog as you suggest, either way 🤔

hmmm hm hm, I actually haven't sorted out the exact details of how Blackarachnia made Blitzwing a triple changer in the RTE continuity-- just that it was done behind RTE's back. I've seen theories related to the Bumblebee movie that Blitzwing could be rebuilt into a triple changer using what was left of Shatter and Dropkick, and I've leaned a lot more towards that though I haven't picked out details. (something like triple changers only occur naturally, Blackarachnia used Shatter and Dropkick to try to make a triple changer, or at least understand how they form, under orders from Megatron. every day I wish we'd gotten the Blitzwing backstory episode TFA season 4 promised 😔)

in any case, one of my headcanons is Blitzwing adamantly refuses to have maintenance done bc of the trauma from Blackarachnia. don't give him updates, don't try to work on him, absolutely do not put him in stasis. look what you did, Blackarachnia. you gave him health checkup anxiety. so him having issues with an engine and a tread is 100% plausible. (and it works for my continuity-- by Cybertronian standards, Blitzwing's triple changer frame is still brand new. RTE knew how to do all the maintenance on his Seeker frame, but this... they need another couple hundred years to really understand how all these new parts work. and Blitz won't let anybot else near him with that intent so RTE is kinda on their own here. that's why they haven't been able to fix things like the headaches and other physical pain 😔)

it had been kind of a given between them for years, by this point-- RTE and the Quintesson drone that unsettled everyone else. they'd found what was left of him during the second Quintesson war (after Sentinel Prime's defeat and the rise of the Decepticons), drawn to the spark he somehow possessed, and for the next few years RTE tried to repair or at least patch the severely damaged frame. he never made it easy, assuming it was all just to get information on the Quintessons, and RTE was so busy fighting and scavenging that there wasn't a lot of time to work on their little project.

until he wasn't just a project, and they weren't really the enemy anymore.

Blitzwing-- who hadn't picked his name yet, and was usually just referred to as "drone" or more commonly "Sparkfire,"-- understood first. the sense had been there for a while, but he actually put it together when RTE came back from scavenging one day, covered in someone else's Energon and carrying a piece they'd desperately needed to keep the drone online. they fought tooth and nail to get it and wouldn't stop at anything to make sure their... companion? stayed alive. RTE still wasn't sure why their spark was so attached to the drone, even after a few years, at least until Blitzwing put it on the table for them-- what did Cybertronians know about romance?

at least one (probably several) conversation with their best friend later (rip Bluescreen she did not know what she signed up for), it made sense to RTE. they were awkward about it at first. they'd never even considered having a partner, much less a conjunx. too busy with war, it wasn't really of interest, and who could possibly be a good match for RTE anyway? but Blitzwing-- he'd never shied away from them. the connection had always been there, RTE's spark knew it. not just wanting to keep him alive for something beyond information; it was the constant banter, the way they bonded over music, finding an odd comfort in each other, encouraging the tendencies that made everyone else a little nervous even among Decepticons, yet looking out for each other too.

there wasn't really a specific moment. they talked about it a lot, or at least in what ways they communicated. sorting out feelings, understanding each other especially with the culture differences, finding how much really made sense together. they'd already been inseparable-- it was more like learning a suitable label existed.

by that time the Quintessons had been driven off Cybertron for good and the focus had shifted fully to civil war. fighting one enemy rather than two made everything easier, including using Starscream's favor to get ahold of a protoform. RTE had held out for that for a while. their drone could be maintained, but not truly fixed-- and he deserved better than a broken, mass produced frame. Spark transfer was simple enough though Knockout oversaw the process anyway to be safe, with Shockwave gone on his mission. Blitzwing was a Seeker with a name now. but he had to learn how to fly again, and RTE was beside him every step of the way.

there's a canon event moment for every variant of Rat, where they're haloed by something like starlight and the respective partner has this moment of knowing, this "it really is you" realization. for BlitzRat, this was it-- RTE helping Blitzwing learn to fly again, in this completely new form, he finding his stabilizers and trying to keep up with them across their little expanse of upper atmosphere. and the scavenger, the happiest he'd ever seen them, lit up by the stars when they circled back to him-- Blitzwing knew. they'd been together already, sure, but that moment erased any doubts (really for both of them) that their sparks were meant for each other, that perhaps he'd even been given a spark for this purpose-- so RTE would find him.

Blitzwing returns to the Nemesis after a particularly rough day. Fortunately, his favorite raticon knows just how to calm him down.

that whole analysis post I made about Blitzwing's dislike for getting dirty hit me so hard I needed to write a whole fic and draw a whole thing about it. my conjunx deserves to be happy and that includes a nice cleaning session-- something that in turn makes RTE very happy too! enjoy my BlitzRat 💜

contains: a very pissed off Icy, tons of fandom lingo, and LOTS of fluff. yes, his accent is written, I love his accent, I'm sorry. there's only a bit of it tho 💖

RTE-09 flicked an audial at the familiar soft hiss of their berthroom door sliding open. The scavenger rolled onto their chassis to peer up at the doorway, venting sharply and pinning their audials back in shock at the sight of their conjunx.

Blitzwing was livid, his red optics glowing dangerously with his plating and wings fanned out. It was rare for his icy faceplate to express anger, but when Blitzwing was truly angry, he seethed. The door slid shut behind him as the triple changer stalked further into the room, giving RTE an even better view of his frame, which was absolutely caked in mud and various forms of Earth flora. RTE jumped back on all fours as they realized their conjunx was soaking wet too, dripping water all over the floor.

"By the Primes, Blitzy, what happened to you?!"

Blitzwing's engines growled in response; his frame relaxed ever so slightly at the sound of his conjunx's voice though his faceplate still whirled until his visor flashed in outrage. "Slag sucking Autobrats set up a fragging trap out on zeir Primus-forsaken island and dumped Lugnut and me into zis filthy swamp!" Before RTE could even shutter their optics the triple changer's faceplate was back to blue, a slight snarl showing his fanged dentae. "And now I'm covered in all zis organic slag!"

His whole frame heaved as Blitzwing vented so intensely smoke seeped into the room. He clearly wanted to lie down and whine for the next three megacycles, or at least until his conjunx tired of it and got him cleaned up. Knowing as much, RTE climbed out of the nest to cradle Blitzwing's helm in their servos, the triple changer melting into their touch as RTE soothed him. "Aw, Blitzy, I'm sorry. You'll beat their afts next time. C'mere, I'll help you get the gunk off." They took his servos and tugged him towards the berthroom's adjoined washrack, Blitzwing complaining all the while with increasing phrases spoken in Cybertronian and even Quintesson about the mud and leaves and whatever else clinging to his paint-- he really was upset if he overrode his translator.

The scavenger let him be as they set up the wash hose, finding the slightly softer pressure nozzle Blitzwing preferred and adjusting the cleaner spray to the lukewarm temperature he liked. After all, Blitzwing was particular, and his conjunx knew every detail. The triple changer shifted from pede to pede as he rambled on, RTE nodding to whatever irritation Blitzwing was saying about the horrible green stuff on the Earth water's surface or the irritating names that annoying yellow minibot called him or how Megatron snapped at him for coming back empty handed again. RTE's expression was carefully neutral, though they made note to hit Bumblebee over the helm later for insulting their conjunx; it was best to let Blitzwing go until he felt better with the complaints out of his system.

The triple changer's ire soothed gradually as RTE rinsed the worst of the mud and greenery off, even hovering on their pede boosters to get up to his tank turrets. Though Blitzwing continued to whine about his orbital cycle, his frame settled under the spray and then the foaming solution RTE used a soft-bristle sponge to gently scrub him with. When they got to his faceplate the scavenger paused, tilting their helm with a nonchalant expression, until Blitzwing trailed off to glance at them.

"Vat?"

"Yapper." RTE grinned, poking their glossa out at him before pressing a kiss to his cheek.

Blitzwing blinked for a moment, then glared at the scavenger, his fans kicking on before his faceplate spun again to a jagged grin. "Oh, I can show you yapping, sweetspark!"

"No." RTE rolled their optics. "Shut your intake while I'm trying to clean your face or I'll bite you instead."

The triple changer's grin widened and he giggled. "But I like when jou bite me, Ratty!"

"Don't you start, Icyhot!" RTE huffed, their smile never faltering. They scrubbed Blitzwing's faceplate with the foaming solution as he giggled, his laughter continuing even as his faceplate rotated so RTE could clean each one before returning to charcoal. He started talking again once RTE moved to his shoulder cannons, albeit with fewer complaints. Crisis avoided, the scavenger mused-- Blitzwing had calmed significantly if his sillier side had won out. As much as they enjoyed the true seethe when Blitzwing got into it, they preferred their conjunx happy, or at least in a good enough mood to bicker with them.

The triple changer settled into humming whatever random tune crossed his processor as RTE finished the scrub and rinsed him off again, checking him over for missed spots though without concern for all the little nooks in his plating, for now. Feeling better, Blitzwing shook the solution from his plating, cackling when he splashed his conjunx and RTE squeaked in protest.

"Blitz!" RTE fluffed their plating in response, leaping up onto his shoulders and nipping his neck cables. "You fragger!"

The triple changer yelped, twisting to bite the exposed softer protoform of RTE's shoulder. The two quickly escalated to a play fight, nipping and snapping dentae as they tussled and chased each other around the room. After a few minutes RTE had Blitzwing pinned to the tile floor, a smirk stretched across their digital faceplate. "I win!"

"Only because I vas already tired!" Blitzwing huffed, his visor glinting as he easily faked annoyance. He didn't really mind losing-- it was fun to roughhouse with his conjunx, and seeing the victorious expression on their faceplate was always worth it. Still, he could pretend, since he'd get attention.

And RTE gave it to him, rolling off the triple changer only to sweep him up in their servos, their chassis puffing out a bit when Blitzwing's engines sputtered in flustered surprise. RTE was all too happy to show off and carried the bigger mech as if he weighed nothing. They deposited him on their nest and climbed in beside him, ignoring Blitzwing's halfhearted grumbles of protest as the scavenger dragged him close for their favorite part of the cleaning routine. RTE waited for their conjunx to settle, his helm resting in their lap, before letting instinct take over, their clawed digits digging gently into all the little crevices in Blitzwing's plating to remove dirt and debris the wash had missed and satisfying the grooming urge RTE inexplicably possessed. Blitzwing relaxed visibly, folding his digits across his chest and his usual calm faceplate rotating into view before his optics offlined, his engines only making the occasional little growl when RTE felt the need to get at a spot with their dentae and nibble.

Through the mental haze of instinct RTE admired their conjunx, their spark warmed to see him so peaceful after the rough cycle. They paused the grooming session long enough for Blitzwing to online his optics again and glance up at the scavenger curiously. RTE softened further, multicolored hearts popping up on their screen.

"I love you, you know."

Blitzwing hummed and gave his conjunx that sweet little smile they so adored. "I know, Ratty. I love jou too."

💜 @seeyouonsaturn I don't even remember which game this was attached to anymore. it's been in my drafts for like 5 months. but I got hit with such powerful yearning and love I ended up writing that letter, and oh my god, I am actually so full of love for Blitzy, it's staggering. this is disgustingly sappy and writing this from RTE's perspective was just second nature. it's so soft I need the Ao3 tag for tooth-rotting fluff. 💖

Hi, sweetspark. You know I'm not good at talking about my feelings, but if I have to be on this mission for a while without you, I'm going to leave this note so you aren't too lonely without me. ...I miss you already and I haven't even left yet. What can I really say to put it all into words? How my spark feels lighter when I see you, how the universe shrinks down to only the two of us when you're near, how even the war and my eternal dedication to our cause falls to second place when I so much as think of you? Oh sweetspark, having you on my processor doesn't just get me through the longest cycles of monitor duty, you make me smile till my faceplate aches. On a mission like this I will sense you in everything-- spinning around each other during a flight through the stars, murmuring some smart little comment in my audio receptor when Megatron starts ordering everyone around, at my side or my back strut should there be a fight. I'll miss you terribly in a fight, my Sparkfire; the thrilling chaos of battle is not the same without your taunts and victorious shouting. And perhaps most of all, while I'm gone, I will miss our soft moments. I live for our chaos, our arguments, our nature so wild I'm not sure who has to keep up with the other-- but our quiet moments, while the rest of the universe falls apart, are held closest to my spark. Pressed together so tightly we don't know where one ends and the other begins, comfortable in our nest watching some human film while you smile and sing or we make fun of whatever's happening, pulling me up to dance when the mood hits, teasing you until you get that irritated, flustered expression I so adore, staying awake long after we should be recharging to talk scrap and laugh about the others, admiring you-- every part of you, every facet of your personality, all the things that make you my Blitzy, my darling, my beloved, my sparkmate. the music in question is technically from their respective species (Blitzwing's originally Quintesson), so I can't exactly tell you what songs lmao; however when he onlined the first thing Blitzwing heard was RTE humming an old-world Cybertronian tune, and one of Blitzy's conjunx ritus for RTE was sharing a traditional Quintesson song with them. a lot of their early bonding involved music, and they still connect in a lot of ways through song (and dance, in Blitzwing's case)! it's really important to both of them and their relationship 💖

💜 EVERYTHING hehe !!! getting out of work and into fights, sneaking out to explore and go on long flights (or long drives with RTE perched on Blitzy's tank mode), and when it's all said and done nothing beats curling up together in the nest to watch whatever human movie Blitzwing wants to see.

💜 kinda goes with the previous but I think Blitzwing is ABSOLUTELY a chronic yapper. he just doesn't get the opportunity to really do so. I however love listening to yapping and RTE similarly is happy to let Blitzy talk at them for hours. they love perching on his shoulders or resting their head on his lap and just listening to him, always flicking their audials so he knows they're paying attention!

on that note, RTE technically partakes in Seeker body language, being a flier themself, but since they have audials rather than proper wings their version of the language is communicated with ear twitches. it's more or less the same as traditional Seeker body language but more minute. Blitzwing knows the movements exactly, for obvious reasons, however Starscream and Shockwave both know most of the movements as well! Blitzwing meanwhile can participate in traditional Seeker body language, however his nature as a triple changer makes some of the movements include his tank cannons involuntarily. so he kind of has his own movement language too!

one more hehe, this one's about their conjunx fragments-- an idea I absolutely stole (with permission) from bestie trinemate Two 💖 it's similar to wedding rings in concept, but they literally exchanged parts of their frame! however, you might notice the fragment from Blitzwing doesn't match up with his current colors--

-- that's because the fragment came from his original frame, when he was just a Seeker!

the triple changer thing is actually super new, in Cybertronian terms. it's been only 50 years or so. he's literally always been like this, as far as his personality, it's just a new look!

after Bumblebee almost killed him, RTE was able to recover Blitzwing's spark and a few other parts including the wing with the fragment they'd given him; there wasn't enough to repair Blitzy and he needed a new frame built from scratch. he was intended to just be a Seeker again but well. Blackarachnia had other plans, and two other dead triple changers to play around with. so, that's why there's a color difference!

RTE does rat things. they get tail wiggles in response to headpats. they grind their teeth when their engine purrs. they huff when they're mad enough to fan their plating. they stop and sniff when a nice breeze passes them. Blitzy loves when Ratty does rat things.

Blitzwing has a very unique engine noise because he has two different engines, and yes, that's partially responsible for the snoring. It also sounds different when he purrs or revs because he's angry. He fidgets more the longer he goes without his faceplate changing. Hothead has freckles if you look closely. RTE doesn't even realize how many of Blitzy's quirks they know about, but they love noticing new things about him, even after so long.

I've had several thoughts for this but you know what, there's only one real answer. RTE came back from scavenging one day absolutely covered in blue Energon (my hc is different colors for different factions, yes I will elaborate eventually) and they just sat down and started working on Blitzwing bc they fought like hell to get the next part they needed, damn it, they were not going to do anything else before doing that repair. hottest thing Blitzy'd ever seen and RTE was pleasantly surprised to learn that when they went to apologize for, well, being covered in blood. matching each other's freak. who the hell else even wants to be on that wavelength

RTE and Blitzwing, respectively. RTE HATES waking up but they're very "I don't wanna. five more cycles." and sleepy growling about it. Blitzwing thinks the whole ordeal is really cute and Random WILL cuddle them mercilessly ("get off me." "nope!" "Blitzyyyyy.").

RTE gets him back for it, RTE in the reverse situation is like a cat wanting attention. Blitzy, it's time to get up, Blitzy, I'm going to boop you until you make me stop, Blitzy are you awake yet? they're obnoxious! Random can match the energy and Icy will be sassy about it, but Hothead is not a fan and tells RTE to frag off or they're getting laid on LMFAO. that does nothing to stop them. they're getting squished. worth it.

both of them do have very subtle body language the other understands-- RTE with their audials, and Blitz with his wings. plus their conjunx bond :]

RTE hates talking about their feelings, at least besides aggression, and has a very hard time doing so even willingly. honestly, they prefer some little action / specific physical contact to communicate, and Blitzwing has been good at picking up on their subtleties since the beginning.

Blitzy is more of a talker, but he likes to share songs or movie quotes when he needs to get something across and can't quite communicate it himself.

Heatwave remembers everything, especially if he's being petty, but he's better about noticing and remembering details too... even if his temper gets the best of him anyway. Ratbyte is very much the opposite and tends to forget things without familiarity-- she does better with tasks she's done a lot, people she sees frequently, stuff like that.

BLITZRAT: Blitzwing of course always refers to his conjunx as Ratty! they've always been Ratty, he's the only one allowed to use it, and it gets him out of trouble with RTE more often than not hehe. but sweetspark is a favorite term too 💖

FIREBYTER: Heatwave usually calls Ratbyte "pest," which over time has gone from a remark on her constantly annoying him to a term of affection, and "firecracker" now and then once Ratbyte becomes a more permanent part of the team. on the occasion he's actually being soft on purpose (and no one else is around to hear him) Heatwave will use "firefly" 💖

RTE calls him Blitzy most of the time, and Icyhot when they're mad at him! and sweetspark. and Blitzrawr sometimes because they both think it's funny Earth humor.

I think they use a lot of other language nicknames too-- Old Cybertronian and Quintesson, things only the two of them can understand.

Ratbyte meanwhile has referred to Heatwave as "Red" since day one. admittedly color coordination made it easier to remember who's who, but it just stuck. she wants to get under his circuits, though? "Hi, handsome." maybe "snapdragon" once in a while!

FIREBYTER: their most petty subject of argument has changed over the course of their relationship, though there's a lot about Ratbyte stealing shiny trinkets from people, but once they're actually courting it's the Decepticon emblem. Ratbyte isn't changing it, ever. Heatwave doesn't like it. they bicker about it a lot. it's not make or break considering Ratbyte's actions speak louder than any logo on her shoulder-- but still.

it gets better once Ratbyte is considered part of the team officially enough to have her emblem updated so it looks like the Rescue Bots', just with the Decepticon icon. Heatwave still isn't wild about it but they argue a lot less. I mean, he is still petty as fuck. loves his rat. petty as fuck. they both are!

BLITZRAT: RTE, oh my god. the scavenger is the only one who can find any of their stuff. and it's not limited to their section of the habsuite either-- RTE is notably the only con who gets away with making a mess in Shockwave's lab, and can and will wreck everybot else's space just to be a menace.

Blitzwing prefers an at least somewhat tidy area, although he's long given up trying to keep RTE contained on that front. if he needs something he's better off just asking where his conjunx put it.

FIREBYTER: Ratbyte, but only in the process of organizing. Ratbyte really likes organizing and hates her things being even slightly out of place. she just gets laser focused on reorganizing and it becomes an entire project, sometimes even extending to the rest of the team's things... everybody hates coming home to find Ratbyte cleaning. again. just ask her if she organized by size, shape, or color this time. although, Chase does appreciate her sorting his books alphabetically by author last name.

Heatwave is pretty minimal and prefers his stuff be contained. he doesn't like to spend time looking for something.

BLITZRAT: RTE but not by much. they'll swear in Cybertronian, they'll swear in the human language of their choice, they'll make up swears if they feel like it. Blitz definitely swears a lot too-- usually Quintesson curses under his breath, but if he's really pissed he'll fire off in any language just like his conjunx.

FIREBYTER: Ratbyte swears a lot-- but she only beats Heatwave because he feels he has to actively filter around everyone. Ratbyte has no such qualm. Heatwave deserves to swear. He would swear enough to put the Seekure to shame if he weren't doing his best to behave. when it's just him and his team-- and even more so with just Ratbyte-- all bets are off. he swears.

who's the big spoon/little spoon

BLITZRAT: RTE is the big spoon, since they usually sleep curled up on top of Blitzy! it's a protective thing, too. RTE is very protective and likes to feel that they're between Blitzwing and anything that could hurt him. he's almost been offlined at least twice, after all.

Blitzy is perfectly fine with this, but he does like to be the big spoon sometimes. it's nice to hold his rat! and he will not let go of them for quite a while, either. get cuddled, idiot. (this happens a lot in the mornings. he's clingy asf.)

FIREBYTER: Ratbyte should be the big spoon considering she's. y'know. quite a bit bigger than Heatwave. but this is Heatwave. he's possessive and protective as hell, you better believe he can and will figure out the best way to be the big spoon. plus Ratbyte is soft. it's like snuggling a big furry pillow. no one is ever allowed to know how clingy that mech gets in his sleep. he's just protecting his rat. no other reason. (they both sleep a lot better together. Ratbyte likes being protected and Heatwave needs that physical contact on his own terms.)

BLITZRAT: it's established fact they hate being apart and are very much the "what do you do when I'm gone?" "wait for you to come back" meme, even if they are both perfectly capable of being independent. if they're not occupied when separated, they're pathetically sad waiting for the other to come back. but they are both high ranking Decepticons with plenty of work to do-- if they're apart, it's because they're on a mission. that really is the only reason and even then they're probably trying to get around being on separate tasks...

FIREBYTER: Heatwave is usually on a mission, checking in on the mainland facility, or begrudgingly helping Kade with something; Ratbyte is probably causing said mission, making sure her trine is okay, or out joyriding with Dani or Cody. they're more accustomed to being separate buuuuut eventually they will admit just how much they miss each other.

what would they do if the other one was hurt

there's one answer for all four of them: boticide. Heatwave is the only one who might-- might-- not kill a bot who hurt Ratbyte, but he can still do plenty of damage without completely offlining someone. RTE won't hesitate. Blitzwing won't hesitate. Ratbyte won't hesitate. just don't fuck with these bots or their significant others. seriously. they all have protective / possessiveness issues.

Blitzwing would have to say RTE's audials-- they're very cute and extremely expressive, and he's learned that they will say how RTE really feels even if their faceplate indicates otherwise! plus, they're a little velvety on the inside. and RTE loves getting scritches behind them. my current favorite thing is thinking about one coming home to the other after being away for a mission,,, they both hate being apart but handle it differently !!! Megatron sees things.

He talks to himself. Day in, day out. It's hard to tell whether he's addressing another 'con or just having a conversation with someone who's no longer there. His tone is the key, although it's getting hard to tell the difference.

He gets harder to approach for anything. If you ask him a question, on a good day, he might answer with a distant "oh, sure, B-127" before realizing. But you're not sure who that is unless you were on the Surface that night.

On a bad day, he lashes out. Shouting something about "I was happier before, this is all your fault, Pax" at best. At worst you can see, when he grabs you, the look in his eyes that he gave Sentinel once. The look of a dog backed into a corner, who doesn't want to bare his teeth but has no other choice because he's been hurt and hurt and hurt.

RTE's seen that look one time. When they got sick of Megatron turning those teeth on Starscream. Megatron who was yelling about Orion Pax again, his synthesizer crackling with static like he was barely keeping himself together. One of his more clear moments. Maybe you should've joined Iacon's new prime, Starscream, since you take such issue with how I run things. You've always been such a coward, haven't you? Running to hide instead of taking action like I did.

Starscream wasn't even trying to stab him in the back, not entirely, not yet. He was still trying to help. For all the good it did him.

RTE stepped between them before Megatron could grab the seeker. Snarled at him, real teeth visible. Don't touch him. He's only trying to help you. You're not experienced yet. This is hard for all of us.

For a second something like recognition dimmed the red optics, his shoulders falling just slightly. Who was he seeing? It didn't matter-- the lights came back up, Megatron's servo nearly crushing RTE's neck cables, bringing them close enough to his faceplate that they could see the vulnerability beneath the anger in his optics. A dog backed into a corner.

Don't tell me what to do. You're no prime.

RTE took the beating for Starscream, and he helped them limp to Shockwave's lab, the seeker tucking his wings as he sat beside his friend. Apologizing while their brother welded the gashes in their plating and buffed the crushed metal of their vertical stabilizer, at least as best he could. They didn't have Knockout yet.

It's not your fault, Screamer. He just... sees things. He doesn't see us.

that's what they could call it. there was no mission, no destination, no excuse or even allowance to break something. the scavenger's engine rumbled irritably as the reminder crossed their processor, entirely unwelcome.

of course they could destroy something anyway. snap a power pole with their metallic jaws, carve out a crater in the middle of a road, knock over a building with one swipe of their rocket booster tail-- but he said no. RTE-09 actually opened their digital faceplate just to snap their teeth together, black smoke filtering from the vents behind their helm. their conjunx had been in a mood of late, and he'd actually told the scavenger to stop intentionally dropping structures on nearby organics! RTE's plating fanned out as they huffed; it's not like they were hurting any of the humans, but Blitzwing wanted to "people watch" and he couldn't do that if his conjunx scared them all off.

RTE didn't even particularly mind the triple changer's curiosity about organics to the point of occasionally trading destruction for observing them; in fact they often joined in doing so, finding some human habits to be quite interesting (or entertaining). but being told what to do? RTE could not allow that. and after an argument about it the scavenger had stormed off, to think of a good comeback, they supposed. since they weren't allowed to break anything. (well, they couldn't in good conscience just ignore their conjunx's wishes, could they?)

and that's what brought them here. perhaps they'd run into an Autobot to provide a good fight, or at least another Decepticon for distraction. anything to kill time before RTE went home and inevitably started annoying someone on the Nemesis.

I keep forgetting to actually make a post about it but I constantly think about how much RTE hates the nickname "Blitzbrain." it feels like such a derogatory targeted term and RTE will fight anyone who uses it. it's the one thing RTE will never say to Blitzy, despite all the other shit they call each other.

RTE catches Bee saying it once and they cuff him so hard over the head he has to be rebooted. they don't regret it, they won't talk to him for a week afterwards.

they'll never say it aloud but RTE appreciates that Lugnut also never uses it. the two will hate each other forever (maybe) but at least Lugnut is patient with the triple changer, in his own way, and RTE is grateful at least for that.

RTE and organic rats. they encounter one in a back alley one day and they're just so taken by the little creature. can you believe it, Blitzy? the humans have turborats too! somehow they're even cuter! look how funny they are, why do they boggle their optics like that to indicate happiness?

but then they start figuring out most humans don't like rats very much. and they start getting protective. RTE can hear a rat in distress a mile away, the human in question hears them storming through the city, and it was at that moment they knew they fucked up !!! RTE stands between the organics they like and the ones they don't, digital optics blazing in the darkness. "If you know what's good for you, human, you'll start leaving scraps for the little ones or you'll be scraps for me."

just, this 40 foot tall menace of a robot with organic rats climbing all over them, bruxing away. RTE can't mimic the action exactly but their engine purrs back. 💖
