I must say, Steven Universe is a lot more enjoyable when you don't need to read through a heaping helping of Tumblr discourse about who's secretly abusing whom this week.

Also, to be clear, I don't think fanfiction is to blame for the overwhelming amount of meh cosy fiction or romance out there. Fanfiction and the folks who write it aren't doing anything wrong. I think it's due to the publishing industry's desire to sell you something you would otherwise be reading for free.

That's my ultimate hot take.

The reason why there are so many tankies who claim their worse enemies are Nazis but are extremely violently antisemitic is because they take a lot of their ideology from the USSR. The USSR was super harsh against Nazis but completely erased the targeting of Jews from the holocaust and instead universalized it. The USSR was antisemitic with lots of anti Jewish policy and was planning a massive ethnic cleansing of jews that was only stopped by Stalins death. So the whole ideology is shaped around being super anti-Nazi but being anti Nazi doesn’t include being pro Jews and rabid Jew hatred festered in the movement.
