RVA Street Art Festival Announces 2015 Site
--- The organizers of the Third Edition of the RVA Street Art Festival announced today that the next edition of the festival will take place in Manchester throughout 2015 with a special focus from September 10-13, 2015 at the Southern States silo complex along the James River and floodwall.
Working with a canvass literally larger than life, the festival weekend will center around the iconic silos and will also include a large water tank, warehouse, and several out-buildings. Murals, lighting installations, sculpture, musical performances and numerous other forms of performance art will be featured at the festival. More details will be revealed in the Spring of 2015.
Beginning in the Spring of 2015, the RVA Street Art Festival is honored to partner with the Manchester Civic Association and other local artist groups to bring art, color, and creativity to the neighborhood to create a vibrant arts district that builds on recent similar successes throughout Richmond.

Fundraising for RVA Street Art Festival Security Guard
The RVA Street Art Festival has set up a fund to help pay for security guard Jack Newsom's medical bills and other expenses at YouCaring.com (link below). We appreciate all of your requests and comments to provide assistance and are most appreciative of everyone who can spread the word so we can all help Mr. Newsom. We visited him this afternoon and he is recovering at home and in good spirits. We will also host an art auction at Balliceaux in December (date TBA) to raise funds from art work donated by RVA artists and some of those that participated in the Street Art Festival.

RVAStreet Art Site Closed for Near Future
From Sunday Night:
It is with a mixture of sadness and outrage that we have to notify the public that the RVA Street Art Festival site has been closed to the public. Access is prohibited and no events or tours will be allowed at this time. On Saturday night, several suspects trespassed on the property and engaged in the destruction of GRTC property and criminally assaulted the security guard which has left him hospitalized. The case has been assigned to the Richmond Police Major Crimes Division. We are outraged that such cowardly actions have led to the closing of the site and understand GRTC's decision. It was our goal to revitalize the area and GRTC property using creativity and art with the hope of changing the expectation of its use as a future neighborhood asset. We did not intend for the actions of a few criminals resorting to such horrible violent behavior to negate the hard work and many hours that GRTC, ourselves, the great artists, and countless others put in to rejuvenating this historically vital spot. We do not believe that the nature of the art used for this revitalization is by any means indicative of violent criminal behavior. The subject of highest importance now is the well being of the gentleman assaulted and hopes for his speedy recovery; our thoughts and prayers are with his family. We will work with GRTC to reevaluate the use of the property in the future but for the time being the site will remain closed.
