@na-dineee: I'm deep in my kidfic era, and luckily, so is Sarah. Single dad Alex has a teenage daughter—Noa, quiet, a bit of an introvert—who often finds solace at school with the nerdy librarian, Henry. And of course Noa knows what's up and plays matchmaker. The notes say it's mostly light-hearted, but I still sobbed my way through it—in the best possible way. So tender and touching!

@suseagull5914: This was the perfect way to start Pride Month! Nora gets Alex to sign up for volunteering at Pride in Edinburgh, and Henry is the volunteer coordinator. This fic is such a great celebration of not only Pride, but discovering yourself, with lots of humor and soft moments from our favorite bisexual disaster (and Henry) mixed in between!

@suseagull5914: This is one of those fics that I was shocked wasn't on our list already. A fandom classic, it's a You've Got Mail AU with the best twists to suit the story and characters we know and love! It's not just that, though. The way the plot and character development unfold in this is unparalleled. Definitely a good pick if you need a good fic to inspire you for When Henry Met Alex week later this summer, or you just want to add a new comfort fic to your repertoire!

Body and Soul(mate) by @cha-melodius (book-verse)

@suseagull5914: So many great tropes collide in this action-packed fic! As usual with this author's fics, you'll be on the edge of your seat the entire time, her great use of cliffhangers having you eagerly pressing that next chapter button. This fic is unique among her fics too in that it combines spies with ordinary people in ways that are so unique and interesting! I can't stress enough that this is a fic I absolutely couldn't put down!

Too Hot (Hot Damn) by @clrmntdzfx

@porcelainmortal: I almost waited until this fic was fully posted to give it a go, but I'm so glad I didn't! I'm also kicking myself for not waiting, because bingeing the first 13 chapters and now having to wait for the rest might be considered actual torture. It's so deliciously tantalizing, the way Alex and Henry are together but not actually allowed to be together. I can't say much more without spoiling, but chapter 13 will live in my head rent-free for probably ever. For someone who doesn't watch reality shows, I really love fics where Alex and Henry find one another that way. Highly recommend!

@na-dineee: To be honest, with every RWRB x reality show AU, I do pause and think: would Henry really sign up for that? BUT—I’m a huge fan of this author, and I trust them completely to treat Alex and Henry with all the love (and chaos) they deserve. Also: Too Hot To Handle banning kissing, touching, and sex makes for a deliciously cruel challenge. Twenty glorious chapters of Porn with Feelings? Yeah, baby. I’m in.

@na-dineee: We’re all chamel stans, right? She’s nailed Alex and Henry time and again, and some of the fandom’s all-time greats came straight from her keyboard. And this AU? Never would I have dreamed it up: pro rodeo rider Alex vs pro polo player Henry, with tags promising Friends to Lovers, Flirting and Banter, Falling in Love, Angst with a Happy Ending, and a bit of Slow Burn.

@suseagull5914: WHERE DO I START?!? Mel has put so much love and effort into this fic! There's multiple pieces of art, a map of the world she's created, and one more surprise throughout the fic that I hate to spoil, it's just that good!!!! Add to that the fact that this a strangers to lovers slowburn fairytale with all the fluff, action, and drama that that implies (mostly fluff, but there are two places where my comments in the doc read, "grabs popcorn and cookie dough"), and you have my favorite fic posted so far this year! Do check the tags before diving in, then sit back and be prepared for the absolutely phenomenal adventure that is the story of dragon Alex and his prince!

@dot524: This story is short(ish), but it completely blew me away. It’s an AU from Henry’s POV, and he’s struggling to move past an abusive relationship. His dear friend Alex walks with him as he recovers and tries to move forward. The yearning in this story is so perfect and I loved the payoff at the end. Beautiful and absolutely pulls you in, but please consider the tags before reading.

@dot524: It’s a body-swap AU! Henry and Alex mysteriously swap places after Cakegate, and hilarity, angst, and yearning ensues. I really enjoyed the Henry POV in this fic and the way the body swap immediately casts their relationship in a new light. A fun one to read!

@suseagull5914: You've read No Consequences, but what about the rest of the series? This installment is a deep dive into Henry's background, his feelings about said background, and Alex's reactions when faced with that reality. Don't worry, though, the author helps alleviate the angst by taking advantage of the personality traits of a couple characters we all love!

The Wait Before the Fall by @anchoredarchangel (book-verse)

@suseagull5914: If you're looking for a fic that has angst with a happy ending, this is definitely the first place I would start! Between the angst and writing skills of the author, I stayed up late multiple nights in a row just so I didn't end on too bad of a cliffhanger, and I absolutely loved every second of it! Not only that, but this fic helps the series come to such a satisfying conclusion, and, like The Throne He Deserves before it, paints such a good picture of just how far Alex will go for Henry- and Henry's response to that devotion. I'll say it again: I couldn't put this fic down!

What’s Up, Danger? (series) by @cultofsappho (book-verse)

@dot524: This story is a Spider-Man AU, and it’s so much fun! Since I first bookmarked it and added it to my TBR, it’s become a whole series, and the origin story might be my favorite. Alex is Spider-Man and Henry’s the one who finally found out what was going on with his boyfriend. But there’s a lot of angst and terror that goes along with being the significant other to a superhero. I hope this keeps getting updates, because each installment stands on its own in such a unique way and I want more of this AU!

@na-dineee: Consider this an anti-recommendation — read it only if you're in the mood for a cathartic cry. Or twelve. It hurts. A lot. But it's also brilliant. Raw, real, and so beautiful. Alex and Henry meet in 1983, at just 5 and 6 years old. The last chapter? Set in 2062. The tags say: Growing up, growing old, time jumps, twelve years in the life of Alex and Henry — and honestly, this fic wrecked me in the best possible way.

@na-dineee: This canon divergence fic (Alex POV) kicks off after Rio, well before the Royal Wedding. Alex is fed up with his dull uni life in D.C., so he comes up with a plan: a year abroad. In Oxford, of all places. It’s Enemies to Friends to Lovers to Exes to Lovers, packed with angst, emotion, and not to forget the steamy scenes. It’s deliciously long, and every character — even Pez and Ellen — is perfectly written, adding real depth to the story.

@na-dineee: Once again, stumbled across a stunning fic thanks to the gorgeous fan art by @lieselart! In this Coffee Shop/University AU, Prince Henry has already left the UK to study in New York — determined to abdicate. But mentally, he’s not in a great place. Then he meets (non-famous) law student Alex, who’s working part-time at a coffee shop. The pining, folks — I practically melted into the sofa. The dual POV is perfect — Henry’s longing and Alex’s teasing are a joy to read, and watching their feelings grow is delightful.

All our Sweetest Hours Fly Fastest by @ahistoricdistraction (book-verse)

@suseagull5914: If you're looking for a heavy dose of angst with a happy ending, this fic is for you! Alex ends up in the middle of a plane crash, and, well... Let's just say that this fic has such good Alex characterization, and the author has serious skills creating original characters, because I definitely got attached to a few of them! Absolutely loved this fic!

On top of everything else he has to carry, it adds to a constant feeling of low spirits. But then there’s Alex, who refuses to be pushed away and, little by little, manages to break down Henry’s walls. The story is written with such a gentle and tender touch that, despite all the pain, there’s always a thread of hope running through it.

Always Where I Need To Be by @cha-melodius (book-verse)

@suseagull5914: David is the absolute best boy in this fic! He's so good at taking care of both Alex and Henry, and is a matchmaker too! This was a reread for me, but when I realized it wasn't on our list, I had to fix it, because the author does an amazing job at not only characterization, especially of David, but Henry and Alex too, which is always quite the feat for a oneshot!

praying our bridges don't make waves by @anincompletelist (book-verse)

@dot524: This is a soulmate fic but set in a sci-fi world where your entire life revolves around your “tether.” Alex opposes the idea of tethering with every iota of his being, but things change when June becomes ill and he conspires with Henry (who he’s just met) to use the tether benefits to pay for treatment. This one held me spellbound and the world is so interesting. Lots of great interaction between Alex and his girls, with Henry, and with himself as he wrestles with internal turmoil to navigate the situation. A really intriguing story!

passing notes in secrecy (i was enchanted to meet you) by @rockyroadkylers (book-verse)

@suseagull5914: This is the absolute cutest high school AU! It's their emails, but the high school version, a 5+1 that will give you all the feels because of how much they care about each other in this oneshot.

Break Out by @cricketnationrise (book-verse)

@porcelainmortal: I waited to start this wip (now complete) because I am so not a hockey girl in any way, shape, or form. Turns out that doesn't matter because this fic is so brilliantly written! The hockey is there, but the technical aspects aren't overwhelming and the focus is on the characters. A lot of the OCs are interesting and fun, but naturally, Alex and Henry are the center of everything. This story has absolutely gripped me and I can't wait for the last two chapters almost as much as I wish there was even more of it left.

The tension is so strong between Alex and Henry - Alex legit hates him, and with good reason - so it's going to be a journey to get these two on track, which I'm absolutely seated for!! It's rated T right now but the author has already promised that will change and, let's face it, MJ for sure knows how to write smut. I actually run to these updates twice a week. 🏃‍♀️

@suseagull5914: If you've wanted more of the verse that started with No Consequences, look no further! There's only one chapter published so far, but there's a total chapter count, so it's clearly planned out, and the first chapter is 21k and basically starts right where the last installment chronologically, The Wait Before the Fall, left off, so there's plenty of the usual sentimentality and humor this verse is known for to tide you over until the next chapter, and personally, after reading the rest of the verse right before this, I couldn't hit the subscribe button fast enough- absolutely LOVE this fic so far!

@taylor-27: I've been following this wip for a while now andd i love it. Its definetely a canon divergence, there's some interesting yet true to character edits made my the author. Basically it's Alex and Henry's classic love story except what if Alex figured out he was bisexual before their story began. It sounds simple but it's a binge read! I love how the author has portrayed the characters, built on the dynamics of the super six especially Bea, Pez, Henry and Alex. In the end its just two idiots being in love, struggling to communicate and pining for each other more than victorian era damsels. Hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I am!

@taylor-27: Okay so, it's a president x vice president au where alex is the president at 40 and henry is his younger vice president, they've been working together for more than 5 years and have a friends (who are they kidding) with benefits situation. It's got plot outside of just romance, and is honestly gripping. I've been on the edge of my seat and I can tell that if (when) the angsty climax hits I'm gonna cry. There's both of them being so in love they could die, but would rather jump into an ocean than communicate that. Apart from all of the politics, safety threats and romance there's the most silliest banter and conversations we get to witness. Exhibit A- there's one point where Henry sends out an entire CIA team and declares a national emergency.. to rescue puppies. Shaan deserves a medal for dealing with them. Hope I've convinced you all to read this! I can't wait for it to be completed

ive been trying to find this fic for weeks but unfortunately i do not remember the tags or the title or the author, which honestly is a really uncommon occurrence for me 😭

i think alex is a law student and henry is like hella rich and they meet via pez i think? and henry offers to let alex stay at his place and they start of as acquaintances and alex is awkward about imposing himself on henry but then he gets really comfortable there and stays there to study even when henry isnt there and henry orders him food etc and they eventually fall in love. i think there might be a d/s dynamic as well but im not really sure on that part

I shed quite a few tears (and got emotionally shredded into tiny pieces nbd), and in my humble opinion, this is a true fandom masterpiece!

@na-dineee: This fic can be summed up in one word: BAM !! Alex and Henry know each other casually from class, but then they meet at a college New Year’s party and their midnight kiss turns deliciously smutty. From there, everything just falls perfectly into place—in a fast-paced, clever, heartfelt, and wonderfully smutty way. An absolute joy to read. 10/10, no notes, would totally recommend!

Down By The Water, I Saw You by @myheartalivewrites (book-verse)

@na-dineee: Is it fate or coincidence? Who knows—but one unexpected encounter throws Alex and Henry’s lives completely off track. A decade after meeting on holiday and being torn apart, they find themselves face to face again in the Scottish Highlands. This fic is perfection—great pacing, a stunning setting, and the perfect blend of tension, fluff, and smut. Plus, it has one of the best epilogues I’ve ever read. I've revisited it multiple times and will definitely read it again.

@suseagull5914: This fic, the sequel to a flicker, a spark, has just as much heart as the original and is so beautiful! You see little moments in the lives of Alex, Henry and Nena that, while only loosely connected at first, all culminate in a beautiful conclusion. @suseagull5914: The author's imagination and world building really shine in this fic that'll have you grinning from ear to ear! Alex meets the Tooth Fairy the very first time he loses a tooth and through him, Henry, years later. While firstprince is adorable in this fic, it's Alex's relationship with the Tooth Fairy he met as a kid that's really the highlight of the fic, which is a nice change of pace from firstprince-centric fics!

Treehouses, Emails and Making It Right by @itsmaybitheway (book-verse)

@suseagull5914: This fic explores what would've happened if Alex and Henry became friends before Rio, and it's absolutely adorable! All of the relationships in it are so well developed, especially between the White House Trio!

@dot524: This is one of my all-time favorite comfort-read fics. I love the way it’s told, with flashbacks and hints as the story unfolds, along with lyrics and snatches of social media conversation. It has the feel of a masterpiece and you can tell the author was really thoughtful with how to share this story. In it, Alex is a songwriter/songwriter and Henry is an actor, and they struggle with understanding themselves and keeping their relationship a secret. I love their process of getting to know each other and their fight against the world and for each other. Alex’s songs are so unique and fitting, and they tell the story too. Just a wonderful journey of a fic.

Out of practice and less than thrilled, he’s soon swept into something unexpectedly beautiful. This fic is packed with emotion, a pinch of vulnerability, and in the end, pure domestic bliss.

@taylor-27: This is such an angsty yet comforting fic. I had a real good cry. Basically, Alex and the super six are close friends and Henry is his roommate. It's all about Alex and his old insecurities being dredged up and how it sends him into a spiral and he has a breakdown about it. It's all about picking up those sharp pieces and putting it back together. Alex's state of mind is described beautifully! A must read!

Prof. A. Fox, Matchmaker by @smc-27 (book-verse)

@na-dineee: This fic may be short, but it’s three times as sweet. I was grinning the whole way through. Fics where Arthur is alive always feel special to me, and this one does it so well—Arthur is just the right amount of unhinged and deranged in his matchmaking attempts, leaving Henry slightly flustered and annoyed… and yet Alex still falls for him in no time. Because of course he does !!

Bright Blue Sky by @absoluteaudacitywrites (book-verse)

@na-dineee: Here comes the ultimate FirstPrince post-canon established-relationship fluff—packed with domesticity and pure marital bliss. Alex and Henry as twin dads, going all out to make their boys’ birthday perfect? This is a chef’s kiss masterpiece: sweet, wholesome, and utterly heart-melting.

The hurt, the angst, the years of longing—Henry and Alex so perfect for each other, yet always missing the mark. I read it for the second time now, and it was another wild ride. I shed quite a few tears (and got emotionally shredded into tiny pieces nbd), and in my humble opinion, this is a true fandom masterpiece!

@na-dineee: This fic can be summed up in one word: BAM !! Alex and Henry know each other casually from class, but then they meet at a college New Year’s party and their midnight kiss turns deliciously smutty. From there, everything just falls perfectly into place—in a fast-paced, clever, heartfelt, and wonderfully smutty way. An absolute joy to read. 10/10, no notes, would totally recommend!

Down By The Water, I Saw You by @myheartalivewrites (book-verse)

@na-dineee: Is it fate or coincidence? Who knows—but one unexpected encounter throws Alex and Henry’s lives completely off track. A decade after meeting on holiday and being torn apart, they find themselves face to face again in the Scottish Highlands. This fic is perfection—great pacing, a stunning setting, and the perfect blend of tension, fluff, and smut. Plus, it has one of the best epilogues I’ve ever read. I've revisited it multiple times and will definitely read it again.

@suseagull5914: This fic, the sequel to a flicker, a spark, has just as much heart as the original and is so beautiful! You see little moments in the lives of Alex, Henry and Nena that, while only loosely connected at first, all culminate in a beautiful conclusion. The topics this fic touches on are some of my favorites in post-canon firstprince fics too!

@suseagull5914: The author's imagination and world building really shine in this fic that'll have you grinning from ear to ear! Alex meets the Tooth Fairy the very first time he loses a tooth and through him, Henry, years later. While firstprince is adorable in this fic, it's Alex's relationship with the Tooth Fairy he met as a kid that's really the highlight of the fic, which is a nice change of pace from firstprince-centric fics!

Treehouses, Emails and Making It Right by @itsmaybitheway (book-verse)

@suseagull5914: This fic explores what would've happened if Alex and Henry became friends before Rio, and it's absolutely adorable! All of the relationships in it are so well developed, especially between the White House Trio!

@dot524: This is one of my all-time favorite comfort-read fics. I love the way it’s told, with flashbacks and hints as the story unfolds, along with lyrics and snatches of social media conversation. It has the feel of a masterpiece and you can tell the author was really thoughtful with how to share this story. In it, Alex is a songwriter/songwriter and Henry is an actor, and they struggle with understanding themselves and keeping their relationship a secret. I love their process of getting to know each other and their fight against the world and for each other. Alex’s songs are so unique and fitting, and they tell the story too. Just a wonderful journey of a fic.

It's so suspenseful, and the author clearly put so much thought into the world-building aspect of it because it shows. A must-read for book and magic lovers alike!

@suseagull5914: I'm really picky about friends to lovers, but I absolutely loved watching the boys become friends and then something more in this fic! How much the boys care about each other, especially Alex for Henry, is so pronounced in this fic, and I loved it!

@na-dineee: This hit me right in the feels! Single dad Alex is figuring out life after his daughter heads off to college, when Nora plays matchmaker with Henry — 12 years his junior. Out of practice and less than thrilled, he’s soon swept into something unexpectedly beautiful. This fic is packed with emotion, a pinch of vulnerability, and in the end, pure domestic bliss.

@taylor-27: This is such an angsty yet comforting fic. I had a real good cry. Basically, Alex and the super six are close friends and Henry is his roommate. It's all about Alex and his old insecurities being dredged up and how it sends him into a spiral and he has a breakdown about it. It's all about picking up those sharp pieces and putting it back together. Alex's state of mind is described beautifully! A must read!

Prof. A. Fox, Matchmaker by @smc-27 (book-verse)

@na-dineee: This fic may be short, but it’s three times as sweet. I was grinning the whole way through. Fics where Arthur is alive always feel special to me, and this one does it so well—Arthur is just the right amount of unhinged and deranged in his matchmaking attempts, leaving Henry slightly flustered and annoyed… and yet Alex still falls for him in no time. Because of course he does !!

Bright Blue Sky by @absoluteaudacitywrites (book-verse)

@na-dineee: Here comes the ultimate FirstPrince post-canon established-relationship fluff—packed with domesticity and pure marital bliss. Alex and Henry as twin dads, going all out to make their boys’ birthday perfect? This is a chef’s kiss masterpiece: sweet, wholesome, and utterly heart-melting.

@dot524: The premise of this is that Henry and Alex met on Grindr. Sounds a little cheesy but this turned out to be an angsty, thoughtful, well-written story that keeps you guessing. I enjoyed seeing the transformations of both Alex and Henry as they learn more about themselves. A fun one - check it out!

@dot524: Alex is a flight attendant, and he’s good at what he does. But for some reason, this tall blond guy annoys the heck out of him. What will happen when they are both stranded in a snowstorm over the holiday and stuck sharing a hotel room? I’ll give you three guesses. This one had great banter and a dab of angst, and it was such a fun read!

If You're Not Made For Me (Why Did We Fall in Love?) by @captainjunglegym (book-verse)

@na-dineee: Not going to lie, this was a challenging read, which lingers long after! Henry and Alex are in an established relationship, so certain of their future together. Then they stumble over the question of having kids... What follows is messy and ugly, touching and relatable, almost destructive, but resovled in a very sensitive way. This hurt phenomenally good!

@na-dineee: Alex, newly moved to London, meets Henry on his first day of work while riding the bus into the city. From that day on, they commute together every morning and evening, and with each passing day, their feelings for each other grow. What can I say: it was soft, it was fluffy, it was so sweet. @na-dineee: A rom-com.' Yeah—my ass. But, Wikipedia says rom-coms focus on romantic relationships and the associated dramatic twists and obstacles. Fair enough, that fits. 3.5 years of pining, angst, hurt—but a happy ending. This fic was incredible !! I can’t stop thinking about it, weeks later I’m still imagining how Alex & Henry might be doing now. Absolutely brilliant!

@dot524: Every time Alex visits his sister in NYC, he ends up hanging out with her best friend, Henry. Henry’s been gone on Alex from Day 1, but he assumed Alex was painfully straight. When a short-term relationship with Liam helps Henry realize that’s not the case, things start to change. The story culminates with Alex experiencing Pride in NYC for the first time. A delightful slow-burn with lots of yearning and realizations - such a satisfying and fun read.

@suseagull5914: This fic, the author's fic for the A Royal Big Bang event, has everything: introspection, fantasy, Alex going above and beyond for his love for Henry (as he should!), and the complex plot and suspense that will have you clicking the next chapter button until you reach the end. This fic is such a good glimpse into so many of the relationships in the book from such a unique angle!

Like Flowers In The Springtime, Every Day Is Valentine’s (That’s What Your Love’s Like) by @rockyroadkylers (book-verse)

@na-dineee: This has to be some of the fluffiest post-canon fluff ever written, I’m sure of it! After two years together, Henry is more than ready to sweep Alex off his feet in the most extravagant way possible. Of course he is over-the-top—what did you expect? And Alex, bless him, is completely here for it—he loves it and loves Henry, and I couldn’t help but melt into a puddle. An absolutely wonderful comfort read!

@dot524: This is an extraordinarily sad and poignant story about the tragedy of a failed relationship and the efforts to bring it back together. Alex and Henry used to be together, but they grew apart. As part of their breakup, Henry underwent a procedure that caused him to forget Alex, and Alex decides to do the same thing. What will they do when they realize that it was a mistake? This is an Eternal Sunlight of the Spotless Mind AU, and I’m not familiar with that story, but the fic is engrossing and well-done. It’s also almost finished. Check it out!

Like Because, Love Despite by @aforgottennymph (book-verse)

@dot524: Alex and Henry are work rivals who are both working themselves to the bone. It turns out that they used to be together, but they broke up. Their assistants, Nora and Pez, have come up with a plan to get them together - mainly to make their own jobs tolerable. But Alex and Henry are working through a painful past, and things are not always as they seem. I was snorting reading the most recent chapter - this one is just fun, joyful, and hilarious. Plus there are some flashbacks to their relationship that make you feel all the feels. Can’t wait to see how the author gets these two together!

The author’s previous fics have always amazed me, and I’m sure this one will be no different – the setup is just too good!

@na-dineee: I think this is Sarah’s first multi-chap fic? Alex and Henry were childhood best friends, a friendship that meant the world to Alex. But that’s all in the past. Still, Alex’s stubborn heart never stopped loving Henry... The WiP is posted about halfway through, and it’s as beautifully poetic as you’d expect from Sarah. The small town setting gives off such cozy vibes – it’s just so lovely !!

The Love Lasts So Long by @chaa-kiao (book-verse)

@na-dineee: The Foxes are close friends of the Claremont-Diazes. However, Alex can’t stand Henry. Like, not at all !! Naturally he's kind of shocked/annoyed to find out that Henry will be spending Christmas with them. As usual, Alex is totally oblivious to his feelings, but they'll get there, won't they?! I love this author, and am so glad that they're posting again. A story about falling in love, discovering their feelings, and the magic of Christmas - even in January just perfect.

@na-dineee: Alex is the new Bachelor, and it's Henry's job to keep everything running smoothly. Of course, the whole thing gets off to a rocky start. Henry can't stand Alex and his easy charm, but as he gets to know him, he starts to warm up, realising his feelings are anything but professional. Are we here for this?!! Yes, we are, aren’t we?!

@dot524: Canon divergent AU where Alex misses the royal wedding and Cake-gate never happened, but a flirtation between June and Henry and a lavender relationship did instead. @myheartalivewrites: If you heard squealing across the oceans on Sunday, it was probably me when I saw the email notification for this beloved author publishing her first fic in 3 years. Alex and Henry sign up to do a reality show (if you haven't watched it, don't worry. I haven't and I'm enjoying it all the same!) in which they are supposed to get married to a complete stranger--except it turns out they already know each other, and Alex has been nursing a grudge for years. We're only a chapter in but the tension has already built up to an excellent level and I can't wait to keep reading.
