“Fifty Shades of Grey” non-spoilers review. Spoilers review on goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4540138793
Story: 1.0 ★
This book is poorly written; the plot can be engaging at times, but it is too repetitive to capture your attention for long. Far worse, it focuses on all the wrong parts of a relationship, such as constantly being erotic, physical appearances, and it even romanticizes abusive aspects and traits. Considering the audience for this book would be mostly teenage girls and young women, this could be a very dangerous influence for its very impressionable readers.
Pacing: 1.0 ★
The grammer is not the best, and paragraph and sentence structure is awkward, making the book not flow as it should. The story moves very slowly, and is very repetitive, thus feels too long and boring. The page number could have been cut down a lot and still have the same amount of actual content.
Characters: 1.5 ★✮
The characters are flat and boring; most of the focus is on physical appearances, therefore there’s nothing interesting about them and none of them really develop at all. The side characters are extremely one-dimensional; the most they get is psychical descriptions and, if they’re lucky, a few personality traits. Even the main characters barely have any depth. The names are also silly; Anastasia Rose Steele sounds so edgy, and Jose Rodriguez is the most stereotypical name ever.
Overall Rating: 1.0 ★
I do not recommend this book, especially not for young girls. It would give them the wrong idea about relationships, making them think toxic aspects like manipulation and emotional and physical abuse are okay. It’s honestly a boring read anyway, what with the plot going in constant circles.

I wrote an “I Spy Spooky Night” book review! Check it out also over on goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4271362683?book_show_action=false&from_review_page=1
Overall 5.0 ★★★★★
I’ve loved this book ever since I was a child. I get it out every single year as soon as autumn comes around, even as an adult, and it’s a fun experience every single time!
The book has a good flow, and an ongoing theme and story to its pictures. Speaking of the pictures, the photography of this book is absolutely beautiful; the lighting does an amazing job setting the mood, and the themes are consistent and easy to identify. I’ve always loved seeing all the props, especially the dollhouse; I really appreciate the way it was redecorated as a haunted house!
The hidden items are fun to find, varying in difficulty and great for all ages. This book is truly a classic, and I recommend it to anyone and especially families—it’s a great thing to get out every year and to share with your children.

“Bunnicula” non-spoilers review. Spoilers review on goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/281235.Bunnicula
Story: 3.0 ★★★
This book doesn’t have a long and complicated plot, but it doesn’t need one. Its intent is to be short, comically exaggerated, and entertaining, and it does exactly what it set out to do. The dialogue and writing style is amazingly funny, and the simple plot is easy to follow and fun.
Pacing 5.0 ★★★★★
This book is short and fast-paced. It has the perfect tempo, not lingering but having just enough details to make the writing flavorful and unique.
Characters 4.0 ★★★★
The characters in this book are not deep or complicated, but they don’t need to be: they are extremely delightful, fun, amusing, and lovable in a straightforward and endearing way. The characters are quirky and super entertaining; I love how the animals are humanized, but still have typical cat and dog traits, like the cautious stalking a cat does on an unknown object, or the insistent shoe chewing that dogs do. It all makes for a great, silly read!
Overall 4.0 ★★★★
This book is a childhood favorite of mine—it is very, very charming. “Bunnicula” is not a horror book in the slightest, despite the Dracula-like name; it’s more of a comedic piece of literature. I highly recommend it to children of any age, particularly those under twelve. It would also be a good book to read aloud with a child.
