i actually go crazy every time i think about rustys reaction to seeing his dad face-to-face again (in the morpho trilogy and twenty years to midnight specifically). the way he openly despises him and voices his frustrations about the way he was raised only to revert the second hes in his presence. bc a part of him will always just be that little 9 yr old boy adventurer crying for his dad to rescue him (even if he was the one who put him there in the first place)
