I’m Val (20, she/her, latina)! I can be found over on my main blog @genjipdf. Since I’m a college student I often have a lot… of papers to write and stuff to do. This blog is just for fun so while I definitely want to be active, I am at times very busy. But I’ll do my best to check this blog as often as I can and write as much as is possible with my schedule! So if I take some time to get back to you, no worries! I’m probably planning on it, I just have a lot of things to do!

INTERPRETATION

Gabriel Reyes is one of the most interesting characters in Overwatch! What happened to him? How did he become Reaper? Why isn't Blizzard capable of coming up with cohesive lore? Since we don't have a lot of this information, this blog will mostly be a combination of the things we've seen in canon, and some of my own headcanons.

What we know from canon: Gabriel Reyes is a very caring and compassionate leader, he very much prioritizes the well-being of his teammates above all else. He's willing to break the rules when he needs to, espcially if it means a better outcome or if it's for what he believes is the greater good.

And now for some headcanons: As Reaper, Gabriel's body is unstable — he struggles keeping his body out of wraith-form. This is part of the reason he joins Talon, Moira is the only one with somewhat capable technology and a knowledge of Gabriel's condition, and the only one who can help stabilize his body. Talon uses this to their advantage in order to keep Gabriel in Talon.

I also headcanon Gabe as Catholic. He struggles a lot as Reaper and existing in this kind of middle-ground between life and death. He almost feels guilt and shame for cheating death and struggles with his faith because of this. His religion is something that brings him comfort during his time in Blackwatch — he's doing all the dirty work Overwatch refuses to do, and his religion helps him cope with that. As Reaper it's something that brings him a lot of pain, although sometimes refuge, but it does keep him tied to his humanity.

That and besides him being Latino, he's incredibly fascinating and Blizzard's lore hasn't done him too much justice. I'm not Mexican (as Gabriel canonically is) but I will do my best to portray the culture as respectably as possible.

And with that in mind — I will not tolerate any racism. If you are fetishizing or engaging in racist stereotypes against Gabriel Reyes (or really, any character that is a person of color), I will not be following you, and will most likely just block you.

Furthermore, I won't be engaging in any shipping that degrades Gabriel's character or develops any kind of unhealthy dynamic. Do not follow me if you ship anything like McReyes or any other ships that include elements of pedophilia, incest, unhealthy dynamics, etc. Beyond this, while I'm not opposed to shipping, it's not my number one priority, and I will really only engage in it based on chemistry. Also, since I'm 20, I'm willing to write some NSFW (it will always be tagged), but I will not engage in it at all if you are a minor.
