"You'll make me jealous, you know, Amamiya-chan," says Akechi. Ren tries not to blink and fails. "You're sure these are natural? Other girls would kill to have lashes as thick and long as yours, you know. I barely need to do anything to them."

"I can do my own mascara," says Ren, who in fact cannot. Akechi, who most certainly had noticed the dried out tube of drugstore mascara on Ren's "vanity" (crate), fairly does not say a word.

"I'm not putting mascara on you," she says instead. "It's a DIY lash perm. It'll last longer. Although, I'm starting to feel like I should take the opportunity to enact some sabotage. A lash perm will only make you even prettier, and I feel I shouldn't do that."

She winks. Ren abandons the not-blinking and instead tries not to breathe. Akechi is standing too close, her face right up against Ren's while she carefully does--something--to Ren's eyes. Every breath in is a lungful of Akechi's sweet perfume.

"Don't blink so much," Akechi admonishes. "Honestly, Ren."

"Sorry," says Ren. "Not used to this. I've never had to do it, remember?"

"Rub it in," Akechi says drily. "You know, if you'd put in a little effort, you'd be quite irresistible. Try buying clothes that fit, maybe. Do something to tame that wild mane of yours--your hair is so thick and curly, it could really be something... Oh, and Amamiya-chan, have you ever considered a push-up bra?"

Her voice is light, airy. Ren inhales too fast. Actually, with Akechi leaning over her like this, she's got a pretty solid view right down--

"No," she says. Her voice is nowhere near as easy-breezy. "I don't think it'd do much."

"You'd be surprised," Akechi says smoothly. "Granted, you don't have all that much to work with, but with a bit of tape and padding I think we could make it work. It's not something I have personal experience with--" oh, Ren knows, she's got an eyeful of Akechi's lack of experience right now--"but I think I know the theory well enough. I'll take you out shopping next time, okay? And you're all done."

She flashes up a hand mirror. Ren blinks at her own reflection. She's never thought that much about her own eyelashes, but Akechi's right--they do seem longer now, pleasantly curled in a way that make her eyes look large and innocent.

"No one could ever suspect you now," Akechi coos. "Next time someone accuses you of being a Phantom Thief, you just bat those pretty eyes at them, okay?"

Ren bats her eyes at Akechi. But Akechi only laughs.

"Someone duller, love," she says, and puts the mirror down to flash Ren a winning smile instead.

as i write this post, is*rael has launched fresh air strikes across central gaza, killing at least 40 people.

my friend nader @abdalsalam1990, who is only 17, has been making posts urging action and donations amidst this relentless siege and the constant threat of death. his campaign is currently at €58,701 / €100,000. he needs to reach €60,000 soon and raise this money so that his family can be taken care of:

what’s your day like? do you work? if so, what do you do? if you don’t, do you study? do you have a specific class you like?

just like anyone, i am a person. i collect comic books, i paint my nails black because my stepmom hates it, i draw in my free time, and i like to cook even if i’m not very good at it.

and nothing ever hurt me more than the realization that people just like me endure nightmarish pain every single day, just for the crime of being born in the wrong land.

none of us want to see our friends anything other than happy. but every day i hear news coming from gaza; famine, bombs, sickness, and death. i just want my friends to live! i want them to be happy! i want a world where a child’s biggest worry is that they aren’t allowed to eat sweets before dinner, not whether or not they or their family will survive a genocide!

i want to live in a world where people can be free! where people can dance, and live, and love one another without the threat of gunfire and violence!

and every day i become more and more hopeless about that world.

Today is Rafif's birthday! She's turning 9 today! Wishing for her to have many many more birthdays in safety, peace, and joy in a free Palestine. Drew a Barbie for her since Ameera told me she loves Barbie toys!

Mahmoud @ma7moudgaza2 has gone through a lot. From the destruction of his home to surviving the Al-Shifa massacre to starvation due to the price of flour to struggling to pay tuition fees to be allowed to sit for exams remotely.

Now Mahmoud has decided to leave Gaza.

He has complicated feelings about this as he loves Gaza dearly and parting from his family is difficult, as they have chosen to remain come what may, but he needs to be able to work and continue his education.

Like others who seek to leave Gaza, he faces the problem of being at the mercy of the border, which the occupation and Egypt seem to operate at their cruel whims.

On top of that, the money from Mahmoud's fundraiser is being constantly depleted to make ends meet. In paying for the basic necessities for his family and his brother's family, he is left with little to afford his passage across the border when it opens. His campaign has also been stagnating severely no matter how much he promotes this.

I ask for your generosity in helping Mahmoud overcome this.
