Creative Thinking and Brain Storming WORKS! Train your staff today...
Marketing is all about creativity. Clever solutions, innovation, and risk. Brainstorming is all about forming new ideas. And we've got a variety of techniques we've reviewed, but there's still an important question. How does creativity work? How do we train our brain to get better at brainstorming? One recognized theory comes from Graham Wallace. He published a book in 1926 called The Art of Thought. There, he describes creativity as having four stages. The first is preparation. That鈥檚 to say the preparatory work on a problem that focuses your mind on that problem and explores the dimensions of the problem. Second is incubation. This is where the problem is internalized into the unconscious mind and nothing appears to be happening. Eventually though, you'll get a feeling that you're close to something. Third is illumination. This is our favorited moment. It鈥檚 when that creative idea bursts out into that A-HA moment. And finally, verification. This is where you must validate the reality of the idea, explore the opportunity in all ways.

Managers and Employee Onboarding
For most companies, key account managers tend to be experienced, mature, and savvy when it comes to dealing with corporate dynamics. It鈥檚 not likely you're going to put some new rookie sales repine charge of your best account. That said, it may be tempting to let a newly-selected key account manager rush straight into the job and get things moving but hold on. That鈥檚 a mistake. I don't care how experienced your selected candidate is, they still need some degree of training and onboarding to be successful. So here are some tips on how best to do that. First, if the new candidates replacing someone in the job now, make sure there's a thorough debriefing and handoff to the new manager. That means a lot more than the two of them, the predecessor and successor, just getting together for lunch to talk things over. You must ensure that the two of them have a created a written transition plan that includes dates and specific responsibilities.
