I think the thing that gets me with Fruits Basket Another, is that we actually get to see characters we love being good parents?

Like Naruto to Boruto, they clash a lot, and Naruto isn’t as much of a hands on dad as I would have imagined him being. Harry Potter, his relationship with Albus is shit, and like Ginny grew up with brothers you think she’d encourage sibling relationships and cousin ones a bit more? InuYasha, while nothing’s been confirmed it’s mentioned that his and Kagomea daughter doesn’t really know/remember them (I’m hoping this is a memory loss thing). And the creators pass it off as “people aren’t perfect/ they went through a bad time.” And there’s more examples that I can’t think of at the moment.

But Fruits Basket, the characters LOVE their parents, the cousins were so close and raised like siblings, they trust one another. Shiki mentions how much he loves his mother, Hajime loves his father and his mother and is clearly a great older brother (the way he treats his younger cousins and Sawa shows it), Mutsuki is the same way, he talks about how grateful he is to be born to parents who love him so much. ALL OF THEIR PARENTS WENT THROUGH ABUSE AND HARD TIMES, but instead of using that as an excuse they used it to make them better people, they wanted to make their children’s lives better. (I mean you do have them being a bit exasperated with their parents in some cases, because their parents can be a lot, and also calling out the truths of their parents being not totally awesome people all the time).Their kids still have their own struggles, of course they do, they are growing up and discovering themselves, encountering the world, but we don’t have to deal with the BS of the characters we have loved for years being demonized. So thank you Fruits Basket Another for getting the whole Sequel with kids thing right!
