Today round ass puppy revealed to me, exhausted, at the end of my rope, that her training wasn't working not because she didn't understand, she did, she did, but instead because treats, chicken, turkey and pork apparently weren't enough motivation. She began obeying every word with startling accuracy as soon as she was offered something else. Doing backflips and stunts with pyrotechnics as prompted for the promise of a pea. A pea. She's a dog. can I be so real with you. can I be honest. totally aside from the moral panic about women on booktok being """porn addicts""" because they're reading erotica, I think it's so fucking goofy when people act as if there needs to be some kind of societal reckoning with how tiktok books "aren't very good." like, okay? they're commercial products mass produced for entertainment. tiktok didn't invent that; you're going to have to take it up with pulp magazines and dime novels and comic books. you guys would throw up if you found out about Fanny Hill.
#the 'all reading is good reading' bit is fascinating#because i bet people are just repeating what they've heard teachers and childrens' librarians say#if you are a child it is your job to learn how to read to the best of yr ability otherwise you're gonna have a really hard time in the worl#as a teacher it is my job to do everything i can to get you there#(insert youth liberation & critical deconstruction of all of the above but in general that's where we're at)#so if reading is the act of translating the little markings on a page into sound and information#that minecraft movie tie in novelization is gonna have just as much of that as the newbery medal winner#would i rather you read as wide a variety of genres as possible in accordance with your personal challenge point yes!#will i hoot and holler with joy if the minecraft book gets you reading independently with intrinsic motivation also yes!!!!#anyway THAT is what 'all reading is good reading' means. if you're an adult who knows how to read this does not apply to you#read or don't read whatever you want i do not care#edu
