The reason the work you’ve done on how you feel doesn’t seem like it’s working is because you need to do it until it works. It’s never been “this strategy will pull you up” it’s always been “here’s something you can do that will END with you getting out of that hole” the climbing still hurts and the being underground still hurts but that doesn’t mean it’s not working

genuinely so fucking tired of people leveraging the "groomer" argument against people who support sex ed because scientific literature over decades shows that comprehensive sex education starting around kindergarten actually prevents children from being sexually abused and groomed because it teaches children the correct words for their body parts and also teaches them concepts of privacy, personal space, bodily autonomy, the difference between appropriate and inappropriate touching, and the fact that sex is something that only adults do. children with this knowledge are not only better equipped to identify abuse and predatory behavior and communicate that its happening to a trusted adult, but also prevent it from happening in the first place by recognizing when something is happening that shouldn't.

sex education does not sexualize children, it prevents children from being sexualized. anyone who is against early foundational sex education and claims they are doing it to protect children is a fucking liar.

I have a lot of thoughts on school curricula but for the moment I will say this.

At the age of 9, I learned about Tudor methods of torture and execution in history class. I saw woodcuts of people being hanged for theft. I saw naked breasts in woodcuts and in picture books of renaissance art. At the age of 13, we watched the clip of Roots where the ill slaves are thrown overboard to drown. It was rough to watch, we all cried, but it was something we needed to understand. At 14, we watched ww1 soldiers get gunned down.

Age-appropriate is a word you use for children, not teenagers. 14 is not too young to read Maus.

It seems rather infantilising to me: are Tennessee teenagers less tough than 9 year old me? I highly doubt it.

Also I strongly believe there's a double standard at play here because crucifixion is one of the worst execution methods ever invented. Will that Tennessee school cut the new testament from the religious studies curriculum, because it's not age appropriate? Press X to doubt.
