The Santorini Charm

Santorini is considered the most dramatic and breathtaking resort on the island of Greece. It is situated on the southernmost island in the Aegean Sea of the Cycladic group, and is 63 nautical miles north of Crete. 73 sq. is its surface area. The island used to have a spherical shape in the past, but the explosion of the volcano was so intense that it forced the center of the island to sink. The island of Santorini is primarily popular for its villages and less known for its beaches, as the beaches mostly have black sand that is not so attractive to people. Villages are nice enough to get visitors' attention. Any of the villages are over 300 meters high and provide spectacular and stunning views.

It is not difficult to access this lovely island and people can go by plane. Many foreign airlines provide their services via Athens for flights to Santorini; the average flight time from Athens to Santorini is about 40 minutes. The boat ride normally takes 8 to 13 hours, high-speed boats are often available in the summer session and it typically takes 3 to 4 hours to get the person to Santorini Island. If the person does not want to travel for an aircraft, then he can use daily ferry boat service. The beaches located here are very pretty, which is the main reason so many visitors visit here every year. Santorini Hotel Katikies

I want to share a dream of mine here that has not yet come true; it's called the Katikies Hotel, and it's located in Santorini. Usually, when I fly, I do not pay heed to the lodging, as what matters to me is the destination. Santorini Island is a unique location that I highly recommend to anyone who comes to visit Greece. And the gem of Santorini is the Katikies Hotel. I have therefore created some form of fascination with this luxury hotel!

Katikies, in Greek, means rooms, and is a term which, sadly, cannot be translated perfectly into English. I can only assure you that when you hear it, the word "katikia" triggers a sense of comfort and cosiness-and this is what Katikies Hotel is all about, too. It was founded in the famous village of Santorini, Oia (Ia), about a decade ago, in a fantastic place. In reality, the hotel is built on the Santorini cliff and has a spectacular view of the Aegean Sea and the volcanic island of Santorini. And every evening, tourists will enjoy the popular Santorini sunset from the balconies of their rooms or from the hotel's pool. 

Designed according to conventional Cycladic architecture, this luxurious hotel has Santorini characteristics. Katikies Hotel's rooms & suites look like tiny caves in the cliff, all whitewashed and linked with small steps of stairs. Each Katikies room has distinctive minimal decoration and design and fantastic views.

If you wait during my stay at Katikies for a narrative of my personal experience, I will disappoint you. I still haven't tried to linger at Katikies .... And I'm not going to be able to do so in the summer of 2007, since I can't afford it. My last trip to South Africa, though fantastic, left my bank account with less money-but my economic situation is not that important, so let's get back to the Katikies! 

Katikies is not what one can term a discount hotel, as you might guess from the above.... it is a luxury hotel, a part of the Small Luxury Hotels chain, and its rooms and suites are a little expensive. 

So, my fascination with the Katikies Hotel began when, back in May 2001, I had dinner at the hotel's open-air gourmet restaurant with a friend who was staying there. In the years that followed, I carefully read a lot about the hotel on the internet and arranged my stay on the island. But I am a traditional Greek, and I wanted to make a reservation at the last minute. The result was that there was little available at Katikies hotel. I have now realized the value of early booking, and I suggest that you all book your room as soon as possible because there are only 7 rooms and 15 suites in Katikies! 

And last but not least, I'm going to tell you about her tub, the popular Katiki infinity pool! It's quite cool, since it's built on the side of a hill.
