Character Survey
Character Chart
Character’s full name: Saraniel Rosefeather.
Reason or meaning of name: Saraniel is a shameless elf-ified version of the name Sarah and can also be shortened quite easily to just Sara by those who know her well. Rosefeather was chosen as her surname due to the character’s emotional center being based upon the ideals of a hopeless romantic who was pushed too far by the events surrounding her.
Character’s nickname: Vigil.
Reason for nickname: She took the name Vigil following the death of her mate, signifying that the person she was before and the life she knew was decisively finished. In recent times, Vigil is somewhat of a mantle that she can use to separate herself from getting to close too others, and is very much her ‘business name’ as it were. As it is, those able to recall her by first name can be easily counted on one hand.
Birth date: 22nd of February, same as her player’s.
Physical appearance
Age: 1322.
How old does he/she appear: Quite youthful, and by human standards she’d appear in the prime of her early twenties.
Height: 6′ 11″.
Body build: Lithe and fit, small-chested. She has the physique that might be expected of a gymnast or an acrobat. Still muscled enough to throw a strike, but made more for agility than strength.
Eye color: Burning felfire orbs.
Blindfold: She typically wears her blindfold at all times to avoid too many distracting sensations through her spectral sight, though when alone or with people she knows will not mind staring into unblocked pits of felfire; she’ll sometimes take it off.
Skin tone: Pale pink, nearing a shade of white due to her continual use of fel magic. This is consequently the trait that also earned her title as ‘The Ashen Rose of Winterspring’, when her mother was tracking her down prior to the Third Invasion of the Burning Legion.
Distinguishing marks: A felfire burn scar mars the right side of her face, and she is missing her left arm from about the elbow. She also bears the ritual tattooing of the Illidari spread across her body.
Predominant features: The previously mentioned scar and missing arm, as well as her demonic mutations: Soft scales upon her shoulders and down across her back, horns sprouting upwards from her skull, felfire sockets.
Hair color: Jet Black, formerly Verdant Green before she absorbed vast quantities of fel magic.
Type of hair: Medium length, soft, wispy, and straight.
Hairstyle: Typically worn back and sometimes fashioned to one side.
Voice: Her voice is deceptively gentle despite the ruminations of the demonic quality that possesses it, and she speaks with a sort of lyrical cadence measured upon each word. When brought to anger or desperation, however, she doesn’t withhold from devolving into a shrieking, screaming rage. For a voice reference, the closest example at present might be Jena Malone.
Overall attractiveness: Despite her burn scar and demonic mutations, she retains her natural beauty and could be considered quite attractive. This isn’t particularly surprising considering her demonic bind, which probably only adds to her appearance (when she obtained a demon soul, it did come with a tiny bit more ‘personality’, thus bringing her closer to average in that department).
Physical disabilities: She is missing her left arm from about where the elbow begins, though compensates through this by her use of a felsteel prosthetic. It is, however, something that hinders her and affects her when she is not wearing it.
Usual fashion of dress: Elaborate silks and everything of a fanciful quality, shoulder capes especially.
Favorite outfit: Her favorite outfit is fashioned in the sense of an acrobat’s silks, royal blue adorned with sparkling glitter throughout its showings. The material is thin enough to be slightly transparent, and thus is more akin to an elegant form of nightwear than anything else. Off her left arm, a sleeve too long drapes where that arm’s stump ends to grant regal poise to the appearance.
Jewelry or accessories: A necklace created with a cured demonic tongue, adorned with various beaded decorations, and culminating in the image of a carved wooden Winterspring Frostsaber. Alongside a bracelet used to dim her fel aura around those whom would be made uncomfortable by it.
Personality
Good personality traits: She is passionate and caring for those that matter deeply to her, devoted to them ahead of nearly all other things. In the right circumstances, she can be seen to be exceedingly gentle and emotional, always connecting with feeling. This also means that she’ll burn down half the world to save the ones she loves. Love is the strongest guiding pillar of who she is.
Bad personality traits: She is often proven to be quite selfish and fleeting in her dealings with others. In most cases, she will inevitably put her own interests ahead of anything else and has no qualms with using others to see her goals accomplished. Though this is subverted in intention when a genuine connection exists between people she trusts, it still rarely stops her from actively pursuing her own desires of ahead of them. Also, remember this: She’ll burn down half the world to save the ones she loves. That was meant literally. She would burn down half the world, innocent or not, to save those she loves. It may also be noted here that love itself is also an inherently selfish thing at times.
Mood character is most often in: Distant. After returning from her time within the Nether she has held difficulty in adjusting to a return to normal life and often finds herself at odds with the qualities her demonic soul has brought upon her. Every inclination of emotion is amplified tenfold, every passing thought made into a superbly genuine and felt expression; thus, she must take it upon herself to limit the hold this may have on her by keeping herself at an emotional distance.
Sense of humor: It exists, though usually turns up only in the playful banter she can share with those she is close to. The only time she’ll truly turn positively giggly is with a lover.
Character’s greatest joy in life: Her embrace of fel magic, and the intoxicating feelings of power that come along with that. Also, copious amounts of wine, and the normal intoxicating feelings that come along with that.
Character’s greatest fear: Failing to achieve the future she wants for herself, or more specifically, being subjected to the whims of fate without the ability to change that outcome through her own will.
Why? Her reason for turning to fel magic and becoming one of the Illidari was to defy what she believed was fated for her, and to make her future her own. To be robbed of that choice in any capacity would invalidate everything she has sacrificed to have come so far.
What single event would most throw this character’s life into complete turmoil? If the Wardens decided to imprison the Illidari once more, she would be unable to foster any further connection with her people and be forced into seclusion once more.
Character is most at ease when: In a quiet place around a select few people she trusts or entirely alone, and especially when there is a steady supply of wine nearby.
Most ill at ease when: When she is guilty over something that she has done and is being talked to about it with people that she cares about.
Enraged when: Her people’s future is threatened and when they are blatantly disrespected, especially by others of the Illidari. Though her most profound rage comes when she sees her people suffering and perceives the Goddess, Elune, as doing nothing.
Depressed or sad when: She remembers the person she was before and thinks about the things she’s done since. Not that she regrets her decisions in the slightest (in fact, she’s quite proud of her choices), but she still mourns the events that led her to them.
Priorities: Herself, her Father, Raunii / Xanthre, her people, and the subtle balance of the universe at large.
Life philosophy: Seize the hand of fate and turn it to your favor.
If granted one wish, it would be: To have been able to save her mate from the fate that awaited her at the Battle of Mount Hyjal. When Faera died, her soul was consumed, and thus tortured and broken within the Nether where it became so shattered that each fragment remains but the scarcest remnant of the person that was. For a present-day wish, she would wish to have all those fragments collected so that Faera might finally be put to rest.
Why? She loved Faera for a thousand years, and that love defined her. Everything that she has become since then is a reflection of losing her and the pain has never gone away completely.
Character’s soft spot: Those she loves and trusts, most particularly those who have served as positive parental figures for her like her Father and Raunii.
Is this soft spot obvious to others? Perhaps not to those who have not seen them interact, but certainly Raunii would know how susceptible she is to her influence as a motherly figure.
Greatest strength: Her willingness to turn fate, to defy the expected outcome in any way that she can to make things better for herself and those she cares about.
Greatest vulnerability or weakness: Her arrogance. There’s a part of her that is dangerously consumed with self-will to the point that she dreams of defying powers that she could not possibly hope to contend with.
Biggest regret: That she will never truly see Faera again due to the choices she has made, and that if she ever does, even for a fleeting moment, Faera will despise her for what she’s become. She will never reunite with her former lover in any sort of afterlife and she can only do right by her in restoring her shattered soul to put her to rest.
Minor regret: Betraying the friendship and trust of Xanthre and Raunii by leaving them behind when she plotted her way of defeating Katra’nalis’ attempts at regaining control and pursued the salvation of Faera’s soul.
Biggest accomplishment: Obtaining an immortal demon soul and coming into her own as a Demon Hunter, finally mastering the powers that she intends to use for her own ends.
Minor accomplishment: Moving past the death of her former lover, Faera, and being able to vaguely entertain the idea of true happiness beyond what once was.
Past failures he/she would be embarrassed to have people know about: She was nearly tempted by the draw of the Legion’s gifts when she feigned loyalty to the Pit Lord Urzaloth, and was only pulled from her wavering allegiances by the intervention of others.
Why? Her hunger for power is often fueled by a desire to turn the threads of fate, and what she was offered she would have tried to likewise turn to her own favor ahead of others. This would have been foolish, however, for to give in to the Legion would likely be akin to falling to a thirst for power that would never be sated.
Character’s darkest secret: She once ended the life of a disarmed Kaldorei Sentinel that was part of a group seeking her death alongside her mother as a spontaneous outburst. It struck her particularly hard because it marked a true failure on her part to control her demonic influences.
Does anyone else know? Raunii and Xanthre are about the only ones who know of it.
Goals
Drives and motivations: The idea that she can defy the will of fate and make the world into whatever she wishes it to be, and the continual endgame of a humble place where she can drink wine and conduct her sorcery in relative peace.
Immediate goals: Obtaining an arsenal of dangerous magical artifacts and utilities that she can use towards the betterment of the world at large and to defend her people from the cruel savagery of the Horde.
Long term goals: To uphold the balance of the world and playing her part as a wielder of chaos, and to assume something of a more normal personal life one day despite her presence as a pariah.
How the character plans to accomplish these goals: By forcing herself into a sort of reacclimation with her people and by contributing as much as she can to their forward efforts. She will reach out primarily to Xanthre and Lucaerna to accomplish her more duplicitous goals.
How other characters will be affected: Xanthre and Lucaerna will likely be dragged along on some dangerous searches for reservoirs of power and artifacts to be used, whilst her people will have to deal with her presence in general after years of living in seclusion.
Past
Hometown: Starfall Village, Winterspring.
Type of childhood: Serene and tranquil, with the occasional disruption brought about by her Mother’s stern convictions and heavy pushing of forbearance. Her Mother sometimes left for months or years at a time due to her position as a Warden.
Pets: Probably not, beyond maybe a Winterspring Saber of her Mother’s. Her Father would always be at home around various animals of the wilds but the denizens of Winterspring are hardly the most passive for bringing back to the house.
First memory: The first that really mattered to her was her Father taking her on his shoulders to a flowery grove in Winterspring where they picked perfect roses.
Most important childhood memory: Likely the moment she developed her first crush on a young Priestess of Elune and thereby began her endless yearning for romance.
Why: It was that very hopeless romantic element that would come to define her, and that first crush was also her realization of her sexual orientation. Though she’d remain closeted for many years after, she never had any disillusionment about where her heart wandered.
Childhood hero: Her Father, who always coddled her and would earnestly do anything for her.
Why: Prime hero moment related to the earlier entry: When she came out to him, he embraced her and later encouraged her enough to reveal it to her mother (who was the primary reason that she was worried about it in the first place). Her mother, though reserved, accepted it with the disappointment that she would not have grandchildren of her own.
Dream job: Being a lazy winemaker, able to drink her own product and relax in the midst of a beautiful Winterspring forest.
Education: She was taught by both her parents, with her Father teaching her of things such as history, music, and art and her Mother taking up the responsibility of more practical teachings like hunting, fighting, and survival.
Religion: Elunian worshipper. Prior to Faera’s death, she was actually quite pious, being the daughter of a Warden. She often clung to her beliefs when the world frightened her and held to the notion that the Goddess was watching over her.
Finances: Her family was rather unconcerned with monetary values, and mostly lived humble and without grand ambitions. She did, however, take a particular interest in the tales of the great elven cities of old and the accomplishments of the Highborne magisters.
Present
Current location: Kalimdor, typically centered around Ashenvale for the moment given the conflict with the Horde now stirring.
Currently living with: No one.
Pets: A massive felstalker named Azrael is roaming around Felwood. He is perpetually angry about everything and is hulked out beyond belief.
Religion: Her religion is self-advancement, and if one were to truly analyze her beliefs, there’s a twisted part of her that would be more keen to usurp the power of a god than to worship it. Given her bitter hatred for Elune after the Goddess’ failure to protect Faera and her people, she finds it impossible to place any faith in the intentions and will of a deity, and thus only trusts herself.
Occupation: Demon Hunter, though she operates mostly as a sorceress of fel energies.
Finances: She doesn’t find much use for money, given that she obtains most of her resources by simply stealing them from her enemies, but if it came to it she has plenty of tradeable commodities she could part with to make an agreeable amount of coin. She lives luxuriously, though alone.
Family
Mother: Narithe Rosefeather, a Warden.
Relationship with her: Antagonistic and tragic; her Mother failed to pull her from the dark path and later hunted her seeking her death at the start of the Third Invasion of the Burning Legion. They confronted eachother in Felwood and Vigil struck her down when she made it clear there was no other way for things to end and that the mother she once knew was truly gone.
Father: Aetheren Silvercrest, a Druid of the Grove.
Relationship with him: Positive and gentle, she hasn’t spoken to him since the day she left in despair, though she always keeps watch over where he lives in Winterspring as a potion-brewing hermit. She fears that if she ever met him again he would despise her for what she has done and become just like her Mother.
Siblings: None.
Relationship with them: None.
Spouse: None.
Relationship with him/her: None.
Children: None.
Relationship with them: None.
Other important family members: Raunii who is more or less a mother figure and a very close friend.
Favorites
Color: Queen Blue.
Least favorite color: I dunno, maybe orange?
Music: Traditional Kaldorei music that doesn’t sing the praises of Elune.
Food: Demonic flesh is pretty high on her list, though in terms of normal food, it’d probably be Pandaren cuisine.
Literature: Pretty much anything of the sappy romance variety is guaranteed to be in her collection, poetry, plays, and anything of the dark tome of forbidden magic variety. Maybe she owns a few hundred volumes of the demonic version of a Steamy Romance Novel.
Form of entertainment: Usually curling up with a good book and drinking way too much.
Expressions: “You are not prepared!”, “Sometimes, the hand of fate must be… Forced.”, “Boldly said, but I remain… Unconvinced.”
Mode of transportation: She primarily gets around across greater distances by a form of shadow translocation, where her form dissipates into a cloud of shadow that can then exhibit flight about as far as the eye can see. Thusly, it usually works as a system of small ‘jumps’, and is about as effective as your standard flying mount. It looks (and functions) almost identically to how the Death Eaters get around in Harry Potter.
Most prized possession: Probably her fanciful silk clothing, which she loves to trounce around in to feel elegant and pretty.
Habits
Hobbies: Dancing, flaying her enemies alive and hanging them from the trees, writing, reading, and drinking.
Plays a musical instrument? She can probably play stringed instruments fairly well, and was likely trained to sing.
Plays a sport? Not a direct playing sport, but she is likely capable of some fairly skilled gymnastics and the like.
How he/she would spend a rainy day: She’d probably walk through the rain to a cozy place she could be alone and drink... And as depressing as that sounds, she’d genuinely enjoy it until she would get too drunk and start to cry over nothing.
Spending habits: She actually spends quite a bit, mostly upon luxury enchanted silks, fine wines, and perfumes. Though even then, she’ll cut corners by acquiring what she wants from her enemies where possible (Suramar is a great place to shop with a blade when coin is low).
Smokes: No. Did you know that smoking is bad for y---Also I practice fel magic.
Drinks: She is an alcoholic, and though she occasionally breaks her habit, always seems to fall back into it as a vice when no one is looking. Recently, since her time alone, she has fallen into it to an even greater extent.
Other drugs: Definitely has a not-so-mild addiction to fel magic, and has a healthy appreciation for snorting finely grained fel crystal powder to bolster her senses and abilities with magic... Or sometimes just for recreational use.
What does he/she do too much of? Pushing other people away and keeping to herself when she should be accepting help.
What does he/she do too little of? Truly allowing herself to open up to others and to meet new people.
Extremely skilled at: Lusting after power and continually finding ways to push the limit of what she can do; and destroying things in a whirlwind of demonic fiery death.
Extremely unskilled at: Keeping herself from tragically ruining the few good relationships she has.
Nervous tics: Flexing the fingers of her left felsteel hand, typically accompanied by a flicker of felfire.
Usual body posture: Leaning against something or with her hands calmly at her sides.
Traits
Optimist or pessimist? Optimist.
Introvert or extrovert? Introvert.
Daredevil or cautious? Cautious daredevil. Which is to say, she takes massive risks but always plots them out meticulously beforehand.
Logical or emotional? Emotional.
Disorderly and messy or methodical and neat? Methodical and neat, except when killing.
Prefers working or relaxing? Relaxing for sure, despite her occupation. If she had it her way, she’d be living in the lap of luxury without a care in the world, but unfortunately the circumstances of the world she lives in would refuse that opportunity at every turn.
Confident or unsure of himself/herself? Confident of her abilities, yet unsure of her personal direction.
Animal lover? She isn’t particularly an animal lover.
Self-perception
How he/she feels about himself/herself: She is comfortable
One word the character would use to describe self: Romantic.
One paragraph description of how the character would describe self: An unrepentant pariah with worthy motives that will enact her goals regardless of others’ objections... But who also romanticizes everything and just wants someone to give her a hug, tell her everything’s okay, and probably drink a whole lot of wine with her.
What does the character consider his/her best personality trait? Love.
What does the character consider his/her worst personality trait? Selfishness.
What does the character consider his/her best physical characteristic? She has a pretty face (never mind that one third of it is marred by a burn scar). She also smells absolutely wonderful by way of magical perfumes.
What does the character consider his/her worst physical characteristic? Her fel taint, even if she appreciates it, it does cause issues for others.
How does the character think others perceive him/her: She tends to think that others may see her as flawed but will eventually understand that she is ultimately well-meaning.
What would the character most like to change about himself/herself: Her continual ability to push others away and rely only upon herself. She’d certainly like to rely on someone without feeling guilty about it.
Relationships with others
Opinion of other people in general: She isn’t concerned with most other people, and tends to only interact with a small amount of people in general. She is definitely racist towards most non-Kaldorei, but barring an inciting incident, will usually keep her intolerance to herself.
Does the character hide his/her true opinions and emotions from others? She definitely does, and yet, just as often she will wear her heart on her sleeve. Since obtaining her demon soul, it’s sometimes difficult for her to really know when she herself is putting up a facade or actually experiencing the emotions she thinks she is.
Person character most hates: Herself, granted, she probably also most loves herself too.
Best friend(s): Raunii, Xanthre.
Love interest(s): Faera Dawncloud (deceased).
Person character goes to for advice: Raunii, Kyphaz, Xanthre, Lucaerna.
Person character feels responsible for or takes care of: Xanthre.
Person character feels shy or awkward around: Pretty much any normal Kaldorei, and though she doesn’t quite know it yet, attractive Draenei women.
Person character openly admires: Raunii.
Person character secretly admires: Lucaerna.
Most important person in character’s life before story starts: Faera Dawncloud.
After story starts: Raunii.
