I headcanon that Itachi likes to bake things specifically since he has such a sweet tooth. You name it he’ll bake it. He absolutely made Sasuke’s birthday cake several times when he was younger

Current least favourite thing about naruto on this rewatch is how Sasuke correctly assesses a threat as being too high for their skill level, tries to tactically retreat, and every time is interrupted by Naruto rushing in like RAWR ARGHHH COWARD! UR A COWARD FOR SAYING WE, 3 FRESHLY MINTED NOT-ALL-THAT-TALENTED ROOKIES, SHOULDNT FIGHT MR. EVIL DEMONFACEāž”ļøšŸ‘¹!!! HOW STRONG COULD EVIL DEMONFACE, KILLER OF THOUSANDS, BE? SURELY IM STRONGER šŸ’Ŗ IM GONNA BE HOKAGE BELIEVE IT šŸ‘ŠšŸ–•šŸ”„

Naruto and Sasuke don’t have ā€œsun-moonā€ symbolism, it’s the full moon and crescent moon. The full moon represents Ashura and the Senju, that’s why Itachi massacred the Uchiha Clan during the full moon, it symbolizes how he chose the village controlled by the Senju legacy over his family. It also why it appears in the background the night Kakashi tells Sasuke to stop trying to avenge his family and pointlessly focus on his teammates, linking it again to Konoha and to enduring genocide without complaint. The crescent moon symbolizes Indra and the Uchiha Clan, that’s why Sasuke leaves to join Orochimaru under a crecent moon, because he choose his family and getting them justice.
So it’s not surprising that Naruto agrees to cover up the Uchiha genocide and doesn’t do anything to change the system for the better. The Uzumaki crest on his back is directly paralleled to the full moon, he’s the living embodiment of the Senju legacy of injustice, genocide and nepotism.

Are there any specific mythological references for members of the konoha 11 besides Sasuke and Naruto that you find notable? I think neji might have some but idk
Hello! I stumbled onto most of the Sasuke and Madara’s mythological references while doing research on the gods and goddess linked to them, so I’m not really an expert on the matter, but I did notice some religious references in Neji.
The slave brand in Neji’s forehead looks like a swastika but it’s technically a sauwastika, they look similar but one is clockwise and the other is counter-clockwise. In Hinduism, the sauwastika symbolizes night and the doctrine and esoteric practices of Kali, goddess of ultimate power, time, destruction and change. Meanwhile the swastika symbolises the sun, prosperity and good luck. Given that the surname Hyuuga means ā€œsun-placeā€ this symbol was probably a reference to Neji’s opposition to his Clan and his desire to change it.
Neji is also linked to Taoism through the Bagua or Eight Trigrams, the eight symbols that represent the fundamental principles of reality. These triagrams can also combine to form sixty-four pairwise permutations of trigrams or hexagrams. Taoism is a philosophical school or religion that emphasizes living in harmony with "the pathā€ also know as the natural order of the universe, so it’s possible that Neji’s death accepting his role as a slave and protecting the main branch was a reference to him finally accepting his place in the world 🤢

Myths in Canon
The tale of Himiko from Yamatai-koku is a very popular old legend. It’s said that Himiko (Pimiko in Chinese) ruled the lands by bewitching people. She also had a large mirror that she utilised in the process (it was a reflective mirror, and, apparently, it’s been discovered in one of the tombs). Doesn’t it sound a lot like Kaguya’s tale in Naruto in which she cast Tsukuyomi on the moon and then used its reflection on earth to bewitch people? I’m not sure why Kishimoto went with Kaguya rather than Himiko, given that the latter matches the canon-lore of her more effectively. She was also thought to be a descended of Kami (as is the case with Japanese royalty and the myths associated with them), so I’d always be surprised as to why Kishimoto didn’t simply go with Himiko as she’s linked to Japan’s regalia, as well, that, according to Japan’s mythic lore, are Holy Relics. (She also brought peace at a time of great strife, which is another striking similarity between the two characters.)

This is also why naruto becoming obsessed with sasuke just makes sense to me. He lashed out and was openly envious and petty and competitive with sasuke at every turn but sasuke still gave him food, still saved his life, still acknowledged him as a capable fighter. Sasuke doesn’t take him picking fights personally and also instinctively grasps naruto’s issues (he points out how alone he is in both vote fights whereas someone like, idk, shikamaru, literally only realizes how isolated naruto was when everyone sees his memories in the final arc of the series). With nearly everyone else, naruto had to prove his worth, often through risking his life and safety. He had to extend empathy to neji first. He had to extend empathy to gaara first. He had to comfort Sakura over sasuke then promise to bring him back for her, risking his life, before she fully acknowledged him as a friend. Not that any of these are bad friendships, but it’s so obvious naruto needed someone who doesn’t expect him to be their hero. Like it’s obviously intentional and symbolic that sasuke is the only one fighting side by side with naruto while everyone else relies on and channels their hopes and fears into him.

whats so insane i think abt madara & hashirama's dynamic is that while, yes, madara has the "i'll cut ur throat, that'll shut u up" vibes and hashirama has the "youre beautiful" vibes .. its actually hashirama who cuts madara's throat and madara who calls him beautiful for it. madara has the rage and aggression and he escalates their conflict but he's not the one willing to go thru with a killing. and hashirama isnt all that forgiving towards madara and his rage either, in fact, he punishes him for it by stabbing him in the back. and the one who romanticises that dynamic and smiles softly as he remembers their death match is madara
