raven king spoilers!

okay, but the very fact that noah's presence is just merely gone after his possession. like there's no PROPER SCENE addressing noah being forgotten. it's like a snap, and everyone is just moving forward with their lives without noah. i find that so tragic.

previously, despite noah's lack of presence that i'm still comforted he will still appear in blue or ronan's pov, or even just at the corner with gansey's pov. like somehow, he's there but there's still a passing mention that he's disappearing.

but suddenly, he's just gone.

and i'm supposed to accept he's removed from the narrative. like i became the sole witness noah was there. how lonely. and i see some theories that it was from noah's perspective and i find that another level of tragedy. how lonesome.

narratively, it's genius and tragic but now i find myself pushed into grief because who will mourn him but the reader?

most female main characters in ya fantasy usually don't have their parents around/are orphans/ran away from home (e.g. the mortal instruments, lockwood & co, a deadly education, ...), which is why there are often no adult figures around to manage the (magical) chaos the teenage characters have to untangle standalone.

but the raven cycle is different — the adults work together with the teen characters, actually listen to them, and try to help them with their quest. blue doesn't have only her friends around to help her out, she also has a giant home with different, female rolemodels. calla, persephone, maura, and all the other aunts and friends — they give blue something most ya characters don't have.

and as the series continues, she also meets the grey man, who becomes a familiar figure for her, too.

instead of having not enough help and support from adults, which is a thing most ya protagonists struggle with, blue has so many people constantly trying to protect, guide, and help her, and i think that's awesome.

she has a family, and they're actually a part of the story.

some of my comments as i'm reading the raven cycle (i'm in raven king)

warning: spoilers!

i believe the gangsey are all in love with each other, and even borderline romantic (but except ronan and blue because they're so family to me, like v siblings! the scene in the lake is stuck in my head, and ronan being proud of blue getting suspended)

why are their latin teachers so problematic?

ronan and gansey's yearning game is insane

the glimpses of the noah before his death always kill me (pun intended)

what is with adam and his use of "heart attack" to people he has the hots for. bro what's wrong with U.

maggie will pay for the consequences of killing persephone because that was my wife!! and now i'm widowed.

i love everything about the 300 fox way so much. they just bring out so much comfort with me. blue really grew up with so much love. WOMEN LOVE.

i have a bit of qualms because sometimes blue's character is not that strong compared to the boys, but i think the later books made it okay!

i'm so glad kavinsky is dead

no thoughts of henry cheng as of now, i've seen a bit of spoilers here and there but no thoughts yet....

i'm caught up with the qjj seven releases! although, a part of me wants to read the fan translations, but honestly i need to like slow down because i binged it in like 3 days ( the vol.2-4 one )

also i'm excited with the vol.5!! PLEASE PLEASE I NEED THE LESBIANS SO BAD

just finished reading volume 5 and here are my thoughts (some warnings and spoilers):

i think this is my favorite volume so far because their relationship is finally PROGRESSING. initially, i admit i was frustrated with he yu and their one-sided dynamic was quite difficult to read.

however, when he yu finally broke the camel's back—and confessed his feelings, it astounded me how my frustration with he yu has TURNED into endearment. this boy who genuinely believes no one cares and love him, is pouring out his vulnerability to the only person who bothered to always care for him.

how can my heart not be thawed from that? especially the ending? where xqc is also warming up, and finally giving a bit of soft affections for him. i love this. they MIGHT be doomed by the narrative, but the love was there! platonic, familial and romantic.

to add, the crime and sci-fi subplot is also picking up, and the way they were so close but of course the organization is few step aheads of them always grind my gears.

i really look forward for the vol. 6! and also the upcoming volume cover??? CAR SEX SCENE!! this will beat the new year's eve sex scene. i fucking can't wait.

hexie you have rocked my world.

just caught up to case file compendium seven seas volumes (1-4) and here are my thoughts (some warnings and spoilers):

as someone who enjoys toxicity, i realized non-con stuffs will always be a miss for me. hexie's initial sexual relationship before the new year's eve felt uncomfortable, and i'm sure meatbun was definitely writing out in indulgence and i respect her for that. just not for me!

i think what persists me to read it how hexie's dynamic in a sense is so toxic, they're so nonsensical, push and pull but they only have each other and the only ones who understand each other and as someone who loves codependence (in this sense, one sided codependence) it still up to my taste.

both of them are insane! he yu is just more forward, pushy and out there insane while xie qingcheng is restrained, and requires a lot of pushing and unshedding to be able to show his insaness.

the BIG age gap is definitely something people will not like, especially he yu is on the cusp of adulthood. he's literally 19 right now and xq is like 32 so that's also a big uncomfy aspect people won't like but i kinda dgaf.

besides their relationship plot, the sci-fi and murder aspect is also quite interesting. i'm thinking there's two organizations working against each other in the background? the chen kang organization is right now a BIG antagonistic presence that is connected to a lot of the plots.

meatbun highlights how a lot of these systems, and money making schemes really exploits women and poor people in general.

grooming them, exploiting them, and forcing them to make choices to claw on the sharp edges of a knife. it's genuinely heartbreaking to know the subplot of the chen kang women patients. they were groomed in highschool, fooled with a dream that will not happen only to be used for drugs experiments? and even raped when they were already mentally insane? like it's genuinely insane.

i realized most of the antagonists he yu and xie qingcheng face are exploited women who have been pushed to the brink. doing what they think is right. while i sympathize with their plight, but he yu is also right that their plight is not an excuse to continuously exploit more women. i love the end of volume 4 when he yu confronted yi awen talking about how she had a lot of choices where she could have chosen a right direction.

but anyways! i look forward to volume 5. please come sooner <3

Unpopular opinion but I think Luo Binghe would be a great dad.

Yeah he might be jealous over the baby getting more attention from Shizun than him. But that would only be for 20 minutes before he realizes that this is HIS baby! His baby and Shizun’s baby! A baby made from himself and the love of his life!!!

Binghe would love his kids more than life itself and have to constantly restrain himself from spoiling the hell out of them!

Bingqiu’s babies are the crown jewels of both Cang Qiong and the entire demon realm. God help anyone who fucks with their kids because those kids will have several demons and multiple Peak Lords looking over them.

And don’t even think of trying to be the favorite uncle because that spot is TAKEN. Shang Qinghua and Liu Qingge are in constant competition for the spot. (Mobei Jun has the favorite uncle role currently and he wasn’t even trying).

Anyways, give Bingqiu babies.
