I was absent on the day of going to the greenhouses, but I've always had an interest in plants and flowers. Anytime I doodle or draw, 9 times out of 10 it will be something floral. So naturally, I was very excited about this project and had very high expectations of what I was going to create. I had this idea of creating this mound/base that would have all different kinds of flowers shooting up from it. Once I started working with the wire, I realized it was a lot harder than I thought it would be to get the shapes I wanted to and manipulate the wire in a way I was happy with. The thick wire was especially difficult and that was the wire I started out with. I just started twisting wires together to create the base, and as I looked at it I flipped it upside down and realized it looked like some sort of hanging vines. I scrapped my floral idea and went with hanging vines. I wanted to create variation and interesting lines, so I twisted the wires together to create a "barbed wire" effect, twisted and bent the wire to create natural looking vines, and used different thicknesses of wire to create different sized leaves. I created this piece very reactively because the wire wasn't really what it expected to be. I ended up with this viney, leafy mobile-like sculpture that looks a little dead and creepy.

My five objects were a campbells soup can, 3 photographs, and a Walmart CD. I knew I wanted to make a mobile, but I wasn't inspired until I ripped off the campbells wrapper and saw the shiny aluminum surface. The aluminium can and shiny CD immediately made me think of that part in the grinch where he transforms ordinary household items into a beautiful shiny Christmas tree topper. That whimsical moment inspired me to create a whimsical shiny mobile. I used glass beads as my sixth object and used the beads, cut up photos, and CD shards to create a shiny abstract mosaic on the can. I hung the beads, cut up photos, and CD shards from the can to create a playful and cohesive piece. The way light reflects off the CDs and the glimmering of the glass beads turned out better than I thought it would. For me, making (and viewing) this piece brings back nostalgic childhood memories of my favorite part of my favorite Christmas movie.
