I know Katniss is the most obvious connection back to Lucy Gray and Lenore Dove as she is clearly a descendent of the Covey, sings, and is symbolized by the Mockingjay. But I also think of how both of them live on in Peeta too. Even though he's a Townie, even though he has no actual connection back to them, I see his love of color. I see the way he uses performances to sow rebellion. I see the way he uses his words and his charisma and his voice to make a change.

Lucy Gray and Lenore Dove live on in Katniss, yes, but they live in Peeta too. Everlark carries on their legacy as a unit.

Haymitch often referred to himself as a rascal during his games, but the actual rascal was by and large, Peeta “because she came here with me/if it weren’t for the baby” Mellark. And I think Haymitch really appreciated that and loved that about Peeta.

Book 1 : Katniss loses her hearing from the explosion at the cornucopia (hear no evil).

Book 2: Katniss loses (most of) her ability to see when she gets a lash across the face (see no evil).

Book 3: Katniss loses her ability to talk after Peeta chokes her (speak no evil).

I'm too tired to analyze further, but needed someone else to hear this.

matt had only been home for about a minute when a pair of arms snaked around his waist.

he hung his jacket on a hook and spun around, smiling softly. “hey, i think that’s a new record. fastest hugs in the west.”

jessica had her hands hooked behind his back, and she was grinning at him. her short blonde hair curled around her jaw, softening her face. “howdy,” she mumbled, “i’ve been practicing, see how… quiet i was?”

he brushed his fingers through her hair, tucking it behind her ears and kissing her forehead. “you snuck up on me again.”

she had a blue band-aid with pale yellow stars on it on the bridge of her nose, covering a scar, and she wasn’t wearing any makeup. he loved her like this, soft, human, there.

“i see you found my sweatshirt,” he said wryly, pulling its navy blue hood over her head. she was wearing his pajama pants, too, and she was leaning pretty heavily on him.

“it may never have been missing,” she said, her grey eyes twinkling like starlight. “how was… uh, practice?”

“class was boring,” he sighed, catching her frown when she realized she’d gotten the place wrong. “but i’m glad there’s no practice today, because i’ve got big plans for us.”

“oh, yeah?” she asked, her fingers gently clutching the fabric of his sweater. “like… capital b, big?”

he grinned. “yep, i’ve got big plans. c’mere.”

matt walked her to the kitchen, letting her cling to his arm as much as she needed, then, smiling, stepped closer to her. he slipped his hand under the hem of the stolen sweatshirt and cupped her waist, chuckling when she shivered.

he leaned forward and pressed his lips against each of the scars on her face, then lifted her up to sit on the counter. “we’re making cookies.”

“we’re making cookies?”

“well, i’m making cookies, i think you’re just gonna sit there and look pretty. think you can handle that?”

her beam lit the whole apartment.

they chatted while matt mixed the dough, listening to jess’ music, and matt got distracted a couple of times just looking at her. she couldn’t look more different than the jess he’d seen at the lodge the year before.

she couldn’t look more different than the bleeding, terrifying jess he’d caught in the mines that night, either.

“you’re looking at me funny,” she murmured, sliding gingerly off of the counter and stepping close to him. she slipped her hands in the pockets of his levis, looking up at him with a smile that was equal parts mischievous and apprehensive. “why?”

matt offered her a small blob of cookie dough and gave it to her as she opened her mouth.

“i’m just happy,” he said softly, “happy we’re here.”

“i’m, uh, i’m glad you came to see me,” she whispered, “even though—” she broke off, pressing her eyes into her skull with the palms of her hands. jess had a hard time remembering things, talking, walking, even, after the mines. she was the strongest person he’d ever met.

“i think we both knew i’d come back to you,” matt said earnestly.

she tugged on the front of his cardigan and he leaned down, letting her kiss him slowly and clumsily. when she broke away, he kissed her forehead, holding her close and swaying to the soft music playing in their kitchen.

“thank you,” she whispered.

I know everyone thinks Lottie wasn't popular because she was lonely and I get that, but has anyone considered she wasn't unpopular? Seeing her in the pilot she was pretty confident and snarky. Honestly pretty similar to Tai.

I think there's a distinction to be made here with the difference of being alone and being lonely. Lottie was not alone. She had friends. If no one else, Tai and Van. Taissa literally slapped her ass in the pilot.

She is lonely, but I wouldn't say she was unpopular. She was rich and had parents who were never home, which meant there's a high possibility she threw parties. That kind of thing would make her popular.

matt has never been the type to get so infatuated to the point of jealousy with a girl, but here he was at a group hangout; mike was flirting with jess and matt was fuming.

sure, mike flirts with most girls because to the others he’s a bit of a man whore.

��matt, bro, you good?” chris asked sincerely, “i asked if you could pass the syrup like twenty times now.”

matt knew chris was over exaggerating, but he nodded and let out a quick “sorry.”

he looked back over at jess and mike; his hand was now on her thigh. matt gripped his silverware so tight but loosened his grip when he made eye contact with jess.

mike whispered something in jess’ ear and that was the final straw. matt needed a break.

“i’m getting some fresh air!” he shot up, confusing his friends.

“matt.. are you okay bud?” mike asked, now standing one hand holding his shoulder.

matt glanced and jess briefly, but she noticed.

“i’ll be his bodyguard!” jess chimes in, “i’m sure i could be a good one.” jess smirks.

“no, jess you can stay and eat your waffles! i don’t want them getting soggy, you already put syrup on them.” matt protested.

“i’m sure we could survive a night of hell together if we needed to! these waffles aren’t going anywhere!” jess smiles getting out of the booth.

“plus, i could go for some fresh air too.” jess says genuinely.

ashley, sam and chris understand, emily and mike are confused, meanwhile josh mouths “bonezone” to matt as the duo leaves to step into the cool fall breeze.

they stood silently, before jess took matts hand in hers and compared the size difference. matt laughed until he remembered she was just being friendly to break the silence.

“i like-“

“do you like-“

“you first.. sorry.” matt says bashfully.

“i like you matt, i was just waiting for you to make a move but i think mike is getting too comfortable and emily is obviously going for you!” jess continued, “your such a dumb oaf!” she said smiling.

“em is not going for me, plus you looked really into mike so.. plus i am not an oaf!” matt said, slowly getting happier as he went on.

“she obviously is, ‘oh matt i LOVE your haircut’, ‘oh matt you look SO hot in those swim shorts!’” jess mocked, laughing.

“hey that last one never happened!” matt smiled wide.

“it was her eyes! why do you think i was so off that day?” jess rolled her eyes.

matt blushed.

he felt eyes on them.

he looked to his left to see the shit eating grins of his friends, except mike and em of course. they looked more impatient.

“they’re watching.” matt said chuckling.

“i might’ve told ashley about my crush on you so it’d spread like wildfire through the friend group..” jess fiddled with her hands, “i was gonna tell hannah to go for mike now, but she’s up at the lodge with beth to set up for the weekend.”

“do mike and emily know?” matt asked.

“mike does, he’s been trying to help me make you jealous! god you are really stupid matt!” jess pushed him lightly.

“am i stupid for this?” matt said before pulling jess into a kiss.

when they broke apart it was short lived, because jess immediately went back for more.

the duo heard their friends cheering loudly from inside the diner.
