i see your art show up every so often and ough i adore it a lot. i really love the colours you use! do you have any tips on making good colour schemes for artworks because i tend to struggle... apologies if this had been asked before by the way and dont worry if you dont have an answer because trying to answer about art stuff is kind of hard sometimes

thank you so much and no worries at all!! i attempted to make a diagram here of my thought process. this isn't meant as a step by step or rules on how to pick colours/paint but rather just visual example so i can explain what informs my choices.

what shows here is that you don't need very many colours to get an idea across. i start by choosing a base colour, then that colour will act as an anchor point for all of my other colours which branch away from it. i didn't go very far along the colour wheel here but you could absolutely add in some other colour accents by adding muted complementary colours. like, if you were to take a blue but then mix in some red, that blue would become more muted, and then more related to the base paint red. which would then make them more cohesive together. so it all kind of rolls back to that anchor point. i feel like my wording is confusing here feel free to ask for clarification ashfsjfdg

you will also notice that the other colours compared to the base paint are either much darker, much lighter, or nearly identical except for just a tiny bit of difference in hue. this is because you only really need 3 tones (light, dark, midtone) to get an idea across. too many tones and your piece can become muddy. the other colours i add in are just a personal choice because i like when there's some variation like how it would be in the real world :D

basically you can make any colour work for a palette you just gotta think about how your colours relate. does it feel like your colours are talking to each other? what are they saying? do you want them to be friends or are they arguing with each other? stuff like that. hope i make sense and that this helps at all!!
