Since making that post on the Gaza gofundme scams that picked up sub-1000 notes, I have received at least 25 new gofundme scam asks, when before I made that post I'd received maybe three over the past year.
I noticed that for the last two, the bottom of gofundme had been edited to say that a person was raising money for the person the funds were allegedly going to - but not the text of the gofundme itself.
so from this I can guess
whoever is running these has something set up to search tumblr for "gaza" and other keywords and is sending messages to every blog that mentions gaza, no matter in what context
because that post along with another couple of posts saying the same thing have been making their way around over the past month, the scammers are reacting to the changing environment of marks trying to change tactics to make themselves look more real but haven't yet mastered the subtleties
and I noticed a further couple of things
There is a lot of really shitty AI being used this time around
One of the vetting blogs the last two asks pointed towards was created three weeks ago, doesn't say who is vetting anything, and uses the same color-coding and syntax as the blogs that it is "vetting," so it's an even bet that every single gofundme on @gazavetters is fake
it's always belgium! Literally always belgium! Different names but always the gofundme is from belgium.
