I think this idea of an animal struggling to survive in its native environment, moving somewhere else and really thriving, is an idea that goes beyond just biology.

Like...... sometimes... it's not you. It's what's around you. The familiar but toxic workplace, the family that never truly seen you, the town you grew up in that has no jobs that suit you. And sometimes,...to truly thrive you really just need to leave.

This is an elephant hawkmoth, warming up its wings & taking off. It's caterpillars are also magnificent chonks, and they eat rosebay willow herb (AKA fireweed in the US I think?) This is a perfect reason to do less weeding. Keep some weeds, get big pink hawkmoths like this one.

Permafrost mummies! All these creatures represent a real animal found preserved in the permafrost. There's something so fragile and special about the earth and ice reuniting us with an animal our ancestors would have been so familiar with, that shit makes me cry.
