The 2014 Commonwealth Games started in Glasgow today and that means Federation of the Disco Pimp's run as house band on BBC 1's Tonight At The Games show starts tonight. Catch the show on BBC 1 with hosts Clare Balding and Mark Chapman at 10:40 every night till the end of the games. Federation's track 'Pound For Pound' from our album 'More Than Dancing' is the intro music for the show and throughout the show we will be featured playing various original tracks and covers.

TV, Radio & NYC!
I've been a bit quiet on here recently but there's been a lot going on. As well as being busy with festival season I've been busy finalising a few big upcoming projects.
Next up, I will be a part of the house band on BBC 1 broadcast worldwide as part of their Tonight at the Games show covering the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
After that, the Federation will be doing a live concert broadcast from the Edinburgh Festival for BBC Radio Scotland as part of their Jazz House programme.
Following that I will be jetting off to New York to start work on the new Federation album in Studio G, Brooklyn with multiple Grammy nominated producer Joel Hamilton (Gil Scott-Heron, Justin Timberlake, Pretty Lights, Lettuce, Soulive, Elvis Costello and many more)

George Clinton Support!
So last nights Stereo fundraiser for the new Federation album went well with a packed room getting a sneak preview of a whole load of new material. Tonight the band will be funking up Edinburgh's Jazz Bar for the late night set (starting 1am) but before that we'll be at the ABC1 in Glasgow to open for one of our biggest influences and a true musical legend Mr George Clinton! It's safe to say we are a little excited about this one. If you don't have a ticket, I strongly suggest getting one!

Great studio session on Monday at the Depot in Edinburgh with some of the Federation boys and the awesome engineering talents of Garry Boyle. Lots of fun recording trumpet with a vintage space echo. The tracks are now heading back over to Brooklyn, NY to be mixed by producer extraordinaire Joel Hamilton. It's a real privilege to have been asked by Joel to contribute to this project given the massive names he works with on a regular basis.

Next up...
I've not been on here much recently as it's been a quiet few months but things are starting to get busier now. Big plans are settling into place for the rest of the year.
Next week I will be doing some studio sessions for Brooklyn based producer and 3 time Grammy nominee Joel Hamilton to contribute to one of his current projects. In addition, the new Federation of the Disco Pimp album is currently in the writing process and we should be heading into the studio within the next few months to get started on the recording. Watch this space...
There are more Federation live dates coming in as well including an appearance at Eden Festival alongside De La Soul and our first visit to the Shetland Islands next month!

Gigs & Grammys
Back home from a couple of great gigs up north with the Federation of the Disco Pimp boys. Friday night in Aviemore at the Old Bridge Inn and Saturday at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen so a pretty good weekend already, but to add to that, our producer and friend Joel Hamilton was up for his third Grammy award for his work with Pretty Lights and our friends in Snarky Puppy won their first Grammy so big congratulations to both of them. No point in ruining a good weekend just cos it's Monday so I'm going to catch the legendary Bobby Womack at Celtic Connections in Glasgow tonight.

Saw these guys at Ronnie Scott's in London the other night and was absolutely blown away. Without a doubt the funkiest band around just now and all incredible musicians.

I got the opportunity to perform in a concert with the Glasgow Studio Orchestra last week performing a variety of well known film scores. Here's a recording of the Superman theme from the concert with myself on lead trumpet.
