Once upon a Witchlight teeth/biting headcanons because I'm tired, my jaw is killing me and I'm spinning these guys in my brain, spoilers up to and including OUAW episode 42 (also trigger warnings for mentions of child abuse and self-harm, nothing full-on but better safe than sorry)

Morning Frost:

Bigass tiger teeth though you wouldn't know it since he doesn't emote much with his face. Tries not to draw attention to them since he's worried they might scare people, takes small bites of things, will sometimes hide his mouth if he's feeling self-conscious. As much as he's tried to 'train' himself out of it, when he's well and truly backed into a corner he'll instinctually flash his teeth as a warning.

That said, the only times he's ever bitten anyone in earnest was under the influence of fey curses. Still feels horribly guilty about chomping Gricko as Count Tsorf and killing those prison guards lmao. Has vague memories of teething and play-biting as a kid but the Psionic Order woulda come down hard on that. Speaking of which, along the same vein of 'Frost was declawed by the Order' headcanons, I give you 'The Order tried to blunt down Frosts teeth' headcanon*. Didn't fully happen for various reasons including 'teeth are bones filled with blood and nerves that don't quite work like that' and 'any teacher/Psionic master who even vaguely cared about him would've put a stop to something that painful real quick', but ever since then he's wary about letting people near his mouth. Doesn't trust dentists. Takes excellent care of his teeth though, has a strict brushing and flossing regimen that he does his best to keep up even during adventures. Gotta watch out for *Chuckles voice* the silent menace of gingivitis!!

He trusts the Krew enough to not hide his exhaustion so they and they alone get to see his huge, teeth-bared cat yawns. No-one realises how large his mouth is until he does it and it kinda shocks them every time. If he's both sleepy and in a very good mood he'll let Gricko do that lion-tamer thing where you put your face/head between their jaws, Gricko and Hootsie think it's the funniest thing ever. Stopped doing it for a while after he bit Gricko, he was the only person Frost would let get that close to his mouth for a long time though.

(*based on someone I know who's cuspid/canine teeth got shaped/blunted down when they were a baby for "aesthetics", which makes me incredibly angry on their behalf whenever I think about it)

Torbek:

At one point during the arc with the Downfall Bullywug Resistance the lads got feycursed to think their teeth had fallen out and if irc Andy made an offhand joke about another set of teeth popping straight up to replace them. So adopting that into my belief system and saying Bugbears have a bear-like tooth structure but with an extra set of teeth growing behind the first, like a shark. One falls out, another pops up.

The Krew's Living Rubbish Disposal. Crazy jaw strength, will chew through most anything and he is NOT picky about what he puts in his mouth. Canonically has eaten glass, rocks, bones, rubber hose, trash, etc etc. Never heard of dental hygiene, if you handed him toothpaste he'd probably eat the whole tube and thank you for the refreshing snack :) The traces of witchlight in his blood combined with the consistently bad state of his teeth means his bites can be slightly hallucinogenic.

Biggest biter of the group apart from Hootsie. Nibbles to show affection, bites if he's scared or threatened, will bite himself if he gets worked up or overwhelmed. The Krew have started keeping stuff on hand for Torbek to chew so he doesn't gnaw his own arms.

Saw Gricko doing the lion-tamer thing with Frost once and erroneously thought it was some kinda weird French kissing variety, got very flustered when Gricko asked if he wanted to try it. Then Gricko explained it to him and he went 'Ooohh! Okaaayy that sounds fuuun!' and unhinged his jaw like a python. It's not even a Bugbear thing Torbek is just a little fucked up like that. Gricko can fit his whole head in Torbek's mouth but it's a 50/50 chance the halitosis knocks him unconscious.

Kremy Lecroux:

Has a love-hate relationship with his teeth. On one hand, they make it harder to appear cordial and non-threatening. When he was much younger looking in a mirror reminded him of how some people would only see him as a 'swamp beast'; Unlike Frost, there's nothing he can really do to hide them so he eventually made his peace with them.

On the other hand, if he wants to intimidate someone? A mean grin works absolute wonders, all he's gotta do is snap his jaws and the 'do not fuck around with me' message is loud and clear. Brushes his teeth often to maintain those pearly whites, probably owns whitening powder to remove ciggy stains or prestidigitates his own mouth. Like an actual gator he'll shed one or two teeth every few months, owns a gold false tooth to fill the hole until the new one grows through.

Won't bite often (it's not very gentlemanlike) but if he's in a fight and he sees his chance he'll take it. Most powerful jaw strength of the group and has excellent control of how much force he applies. The first time he ever really, earnestly bit someone at full strength was when he was jumped in an Agwé backalley. The guy who attacked him lost his whole fucking arm, Kremy's equal parts embarassed and proud whenever he tells the story. Might nip lightly at his friends to show annoyed affection like his Ma used to do to him.

One time he yawned and Gricko tried to do the lion tamer trick - Kremy immediately closed his jaws and gator-rolled him. Insists to this day that it was an accident, Gricko spooked him and instinct kicked in (it was intentional, Gricko was pissing him off).

Gideon Coal:

Very human-looking teeth, maybe a little more pronounced in the canines but fairly standard appearance. HOWEVER. If he's angry or focuses hard enough he can heat up the blood and muscle of his mouth til he burns anything he bites. Isn't afraid to fight dirty and will chomp down on hands, arms, whatever's closest if he thinks a brawl isn't going his way. It's a good thing he and Kremy are always feeding dead bodies they make to pigs, branded teeth marks are sort of hard to miss.

Fairly average jaw strength. If he was able to chew half the stuff Torbek could he'd be Living Rubbish Disposal no. 2 since his Fire Genasi gastrointestinal system literally burns up whatever he eats, and by his own admission whatevers in his hands might eventually end up in his mouth for better or worse (Kudos to Mace for that, Gid with Pica real /lh). Brushes his teeth maybe once a week at Kremy's nagging insistance. Yellowy nicotine stained teeth, breath smells like a woodfire, he's lucky he's got a pretty face tbh. Has had at least two teeth knocked out in fights. Also projecting my own clicky jaw and bruxism onto Gid, someone get this man a nightguard stat.

Gricko offered to try the lion-tamer thing with Gideon since he didn't want him to feel left out. Gideon was fairly overconfident that he could fit at least half of Gricko's head in his mouth - all he got was a mouthful of goblin hair for his trouble. First time he's ever brushed his teeth without being asked.

Hootsie:

Loves to bite things, inhereted her dads goblin propensity for putting stuff in her mouth for the fun of it. Biting is also a major form of communication for her, she'll nip if she's stressed, annoyed or wants someone to follow her, she'll nibble to show affection or if she wants pats, ratsnacks or her Flypad. Never, ever piss her off or scare her enough for her to genuinely bite you, she WILL use full force and she WILL go for the jugular.

Gricko has a ton of little scars on his ears, arms and legs from her chewing, he calls them 'teething marks' - she doesn't even have teeth BUT she DOES have a sharp, hooked beak with keratinised grinding pads towards the back to help her break up larger food chunks or bones, like a platypus (monotreme owlbear headcanons my beloved). Even without teeth, Gricko insists she brush and floss her beak. She usually joins Frost in his dental routine since he's happy to help out and is patient when she's grumpy about it. All in all she's got the shiniest little owlbear smile in Avantris :}

(Also minor related headcanon that instead of saving milk-teeth like some parents do, Gricko has saved Hootsie's first owl-pellet in a jar as a keepsake. It's absolutely disgusting but no-one can make him part with it, too much sentimental value.)

Gricko Grimgrin:

The man of the hour who will not stop sticking his head in other people's mouths. As for his own mouth, he could probably be Living Rubbish Disposal 0.5 if he had even a little less self-control. That's not really saying much though, will eat rats, small birds and newts bones and all, insists it all tastes like chicken. He'll also eat raw chicken, though his high constitution saves him from the worst of salmonella. Got very good at escaping situations by chewing through ropes, boxes, etc.

Doesn't bite that often, but when he does it's either a nibble to show affection or an earnest full-force chomp, no inbetween. Mostly does it for survival - only once, during the Carnivál days, did the Krew see him bite anyone out of anger. The carny definitely had it coming, but it still took a combined effort of pulling from Gideon, frantic talk-down from Frost and Kremy's Suggestion for Gricko to release the guy's arm. Goblins are like fantasy humanoid land-piranhas to me, his bite force is 10 times his own body weight and his teeth are slightly serrated. You get your appendage back when HE decides and not a moment before.

Has a habit of losing teeth on hard materials or getting them knocked out doing stupid shit. His teeth will grow back, but unlike piranhas or bugbears they grow very slowly, so it's not unusual to see lots of gaps or mismatched tooth sizes when he smiles. Scared of dentists, never took much care of his teeth until he adopted Hootsie and learned about childrens dental hygiene from the Ratman Child Casino. He does his best to brush and be a good example for Hootsie but will sometimes need Frost to remind him. Says he flosses, is lying.

BONUS Twig Toadspring:

In her brownie form, very normal humanoid teeth that she takes good care of. She's got a big, happy grin that is absolutely blinding and an adorable tooth-gap.

I'm on episode 42 right now and really sad we never got to see her fully boggart-out before she got died/got puppeted, Twig deserves to go ape-shit. As a treat. BUT I know in my heart of hearts her boggart form had some fucked up lamprey stuff going on tooth-wise. Rows upon rows of eldritch, razor sharp chompers that will cut huge chunks out of anything she bites, and I'd bet she's venomous to top it all off. If she gets her jaws into you, you ARE dying one way or another.

She saw everyone else doing the lion thing with Gricko and wanted a shot at it, like Gideon she just ended up chewing his hair. Then she suggested they do it the opposite way and stick HER head inside of Gricko's mouth, immediately went to do this and headbutted Gricko in the teeth HARD, which was very painful for Gricko and very entertaining for everyone else.
