Journal 4: Audio File
I'll be so real, I thought "what if I did a Halloween-ish radio host, they blast sound effects all the time and people think it's normal" and by the time I started I couldn't stop. I was like, balls-deep in collecting sound effects for this stupid piece of shit audio and I couldn't give up and start all over again. So. Had to commit.

Group Project for App Development
So far my group Team C involves Christian and Drew, and we met up at Strozier to struggle over what exactly the app should be; so we brainstormed an app with a few minigames that, once solved, would lead you to the "winning screen"
We're thinking a homescreen that takes you to 3 available games, one would be a whack-a-mole idea that Christian decided to work on, Drew was focused more so on some sort of brick-breaking game, and I'm going to be tackling a morse code puzzle game. We decided to independently work on these 3 games and then come back together to just import the code and designs onto one project and focus on fine tuning it from there.
Tumblr media
Here's where I'm at so far, I have a library for the morse code of the alphabet, and the beginnings of a built in text translator to use in the game. I want to have it be a puzzle game, where it chooses a random sentence with a missing word or phrase, and the player chooses the right string of dots/dashes. I still need to make morse code audio files too because I want there to be different game levels? Maybe? We'll see when I get properly into it.

Here's us after class with honorary special guest of Team C

Us brainstorming at strozier also, Christian is in the corner, here are my broken glasses, and Drew was out of frame 馃槶 but his laptop in on the right, I'm so sorry Drew.

Innovative Journal Entry 2: Electric Boogaloo
So I made an app in MIT App Inventor.
It was extremely painful.
My original idea was to make an app with Hatsune Miku in it, and a button. When you press the button, Miku changes from a static image of her staring at you with big empty Vocaloid Eyes into a different static image of her giving you a thumbs up while playing an audio clip of her saying "You got this!"
But then I realized... well I found some silly Miku clips online... and I found this video and that this artist makes super cute animations in general... what if I do something poorly made and also dumb at the same time. And thus, Miku Therapy App was born!
First I tried to create lego block codes where pressing the button would randomly play sound clips, so I made 4 sounds and uploaded unique .mp3's to each one, and then tried to list them. And then it didn't work. And then I tried to do something similar with the gifs by uploading them to 4 unique images. Nada.
...then I realized I was stupid and had to actually test the app instead of pressing the button because apparently I thought you could test it on the website. So I downloaded MIT ai2 onto my phone and scanned the QR code to test it as an actual application, and I got so so excited because, surely, that was what I was doing wrong.
And then the gif wasn't playing and button mashing got me no Miku voice.
So I started googling "MIT app inventor press button play random audio" and "MIT app inventor randomizer" and "MIT app inventor press button show random image" etc. etc. until I found the MIT app inventor forums where people had mountains of code they already fine tuned to work, and I was able to find someone who figured out the random audio; turns out, you don't use the sound draggable on the MIT website, you use the Player. So, suddenly, when I scanned the QR code to test it on my phone I was getting beautiful Miku dialogue that I was desperate for.
But then I tried to figure out how to fix the gif, where after a few google searches I found a youtube tutorial uploaded by a girl (who I assume is 11???) which taught me that, no, gifs wouldn't work with the Image draggable but rather the goddamn WEB VIEWER with a url that leads to the FILE STORED LOCALLY ON MY LAPTOP. WHAT DO YOU M E A N????
it ended up working.
And I realized, "oh. I can just copy the randomized list of audio, replace the .mp3 file names with the .gif ones, and then hook that up the web viewer so I can get my random Miku gifs" That was the only lego block coding I was able to do on my own and have work the first time around. And its so pathetic but I was so incredibly happy that I finally got the result I wanted even though I just frankensteined my existing code together

Here's that code btw. For the amount of time I spent slamming my head into my desk from the failure, it is deceptively small, but my therapy bill is very big.

Innovative Journal Entry 1
Hi. My name is Mel because I don't really want to use my full name on tumblr.com, hellsite my beloved.
I'm taking this class in the hopes of learning more about current technology and how to create something out of it. Mostly on building my own website to act as a portfolio, but I also want to do more with 3D modeling functional objects for art project or just cosplay props.
My priorities are a bit backwards as when it comes to building websites, my skills are very little to fuck all. But with 3D modeling I've at least gotten the baby steps down with Blender, and I opened Autodesk Fusion 360 like,, twice. ,.. .and obviously I uninstalled it within the day because I could feel my brain melt out of my ears. Which is awesome because I saw it on the course syllabus so. Looking forward to that! Yippee ^ _ ^
