I don't know if you've covered this before or if it's too personal, but my wife and I have been giving serious consideration to adopting and I was wondering if you had any advice or insight. Maybe thinks you wish you would have known before hand.

i do talk about this publicly because I think it’s one of those things that still seems to have some mystery or stigma to it and I want to just be one of those voices that helps alleviate that for people who are seriously considering it.

 my wife and I adopted twice. once domestically and once internationally. both experiences were tremendous and uplifting. we have been a complete family now for many years and if you have a happy home and love one another I can’t recommend the experience more. 

 people are worried about the mystery or the lack of control that some parts of adoption bring into your life but, guess what, it’s the same mystery and lack of control that everything brings to your life.

 the answer to the number one question is: there is absolutely no difference between how you feel or interact with your biological or adoptive children. you love them all the same.  you bond with them as powerfully. every kid is unique and needs different things from you but the big stuff is all the same.

 because we did the process a couple of times we had to take the classes about adoption and adoption psychology a couple of times and I’m very glad we did because it has informed how we work with all of our children.

i am so so so proud of my kids.  and i know that two of my children have suffered a tremendous loss that they will live with forever.  but we face it together. and every time it have come up, and it does, and never when you expect it to, the family has been there for them.

when you do adopt, takes tons of pictures. tons. both kids go through phases where they need proof of who they are and how they came to be where they are. just this week, both sabrina and tabatha sifted through their baby pictures and videos with me. 

it seems just seeing images of us holding and taking care of them as babies filled them up.

this is how big tabatha was the day we took her home. my wife’s checkbook is there specifically for scale :)
