Firm lips press against his. Inside, he feels nothing. 

The warmth of another body pressed against his momentarily dispels the cold, making him feel marginally less like a puppet without a handler, charmed to move.

He tries to kiss back with the side of his mouth that still works. Even he knows it’s a clumsy and lopsided attempt, but Marcus doesn’t seem to mind as his hold on Remus tightens.

It doesn’t feel anything like Sirius’ kisses had—from the supercut of dizzy moments that Remus can recall—but he doesn’t imagine anything ever will, so it’s enough. It’ll have to be enough.

Marcus is grasping Remus’ jaw, coaxing his mouth open, when the warmth is suddenly pried away from him. Remus flails, opening his eyes to see Sirius with a fistfull of Marcus’ hair.

Sirius is a spitfire, as volatile as he is beautiful. He’s far from immune to anger, but Remus doesn’t think he’s ever seen Sirius angry like this.

“Out,” he hisses.

“I can’t—” Marcus squirms in his hold, and Sirius releases him.

“Out!”

Marcus scrambles away, glancing back at Sirius as if he’s something to be feared. That look alone, disgust mingled with terror, is enough to dispel the fleeting attraction Remus had held towards him.

Sirius stares for a long moment, before he finds his words. “Does the sanctity of our marriage mean nothing to you?”

Remus rubs at his temples with his knuckles. “It’s not real.”

“Not real?” Sirius holds his hand up, the metal band glinting in the light. “My ring feels pretty real to me. The license looks pretty fucking real to me.”

“But you don’t even—” like me, Remus thinks miserably. He grapples for words, any words, words that will get him out of the little hole he’s dug for himself, that comes a little too close to the truth of it all.

“I don’t expect you to limit yourself,” he says instead, careful with his words. “That wouldn’t be fair.”

“It’s not about fairness,” Sirius says. “What the fuck, Moony.”

Because while Sirius is still deep in denial and internalized homophobia, he's convincing himself like "it's okay, i'm not gay, anyone would want to kiss Remus once in a while, he's just objectively hot"

Except Remus is awkward and quiet when not around friends, he's too tall like he grew up too fast and doesn't know what to do with this extra height, his scars scare people away, he wears grandpa sweaters, drinks tea in his free time and goes to sleep at 9 pm, he can't flirt for the life of him (even though he could bc he's witty and sarcastic) because he has no self-confidence and it shows.

He's basically a loser (affectionate) and Sirius is like "it's okay, no need to panic, he's the sexiest man on earth but that's just an astute observation, no gay thoughts here"
