Update: I'm still studying for my GED, however I'm not solely relying on the Kaplan GED study guide. After running into some trouble with math I'm watching the LighAndSalt math video series which breaks things down in a much easier way that I can actually understand. I'm also contemplating using some special essay guides for the RLA portion of the test, since my scores there are okay but not as good as my science and social studies scores. Hopefully by May or June I'll be ready.

its kind of bonkers that the new yorker article on the decline of humanities enrollment and esp english majors acknowledges straight up that the democratisation of access to university (more first gen, more low income, more non white and even more intl students) means that they need jobs right after college and need college to serve its purpose as a socioeconomic ladder. so english is not a good choice for them. but half the tumblr comments on that post are all about how awful it is that beauty is being lost in world because college is being seen as instrumental instead of an intellectual journey or whatever the fuck.

Look I'm gonna be honest. Most of those things aren't untrue. But ultimately none of these things are the reason why so many anglos are monolingual.
The reason why I and so many other foreigners speak your language while you don't speak anyone else's is not because we start learning English earlier in life, or because we have better language education (most of us don't lol) or because there's a negative perception of foreign language learning in anglophone countries.
The reason is much simpler: It's because we have to, and you don't. That's all.

Thank you, you're literally the only person on the internet willing to explain this!
I wouldn't normally ask this but would someone who is good at division be willing to help me understand a ridiculous division problem????? I've looked it up on the internet and I've used a calculator but no one, not even my book, will explain how you figure this one out on your own!

if you are interested in taking arabic, please consider signing up for my friend's class on nov 30. 16 hours for a class that would normally be hundreds of dollars. this covers beginner and intermediate, with a focus on reading, writing, and vocabulary.
for spoken conversation (more dialect specific), she will also be offering a course in january. alaa is very patient and a great teacher, as well as totally fluent in english. she also records the classes in case you end up missing one.
the funds are to help family in gaza.

Tumblrinas didn't know I used to hate reading. I don't read that much when I was a teenager. I was more of a TV teenager than a bookish, or a subculture teen. I only got into BLS degree because I thought it would make me look smart lmfao
I'm the worst librarian u know lol

Some Gazan bloggers can be overenthusiastic in your inbox, if their requests for boosting bothered you, just ignore the messages. Keep in mind, they're literally teenagers. Don't give the mods a reason to terminate their accounts. Please.

it's really great that whenever i try to focus my brain on literally anything that isn't a special interest (whether talking to friends, reading theory or even something as basic as litfic, studying, trying to find a job or think or the future) my brain literally turns into a pressure cooker and fills up with painful fog and it feels like i need to drill some holes in there to release whatever the fuck is going on. i would love to be able to do something as basic as compose emails and talk to friends regularly and organize/do more to help irl and focus on anything that isn't my big special interest even as simple as a fucking. book. i would like to not be constantly on the verge of a panic attack when i'm doing something not related to special interest. i would like to be able to function, for my brain to not be overwhelmed by extremely basic tasks and to not feel absolutely physically exhausted and drained and crushed by the end of the day or even in the middle of it because i managed to spend twenty minutes resarching my course subject or trying to find a recipe for tonight. i would like to be able to function, at all. i don't hate myself for this or at least, not as much as i used to--i just. don't like it, and feel exhausted and wondering about the future, if this is always gonna be like this. i guess at least i'm lucky to have been told that even if things go bad my siblings are basically living with the assumption that they'll be taking care of me if i remain non-functional all my life. but that it's whole own can of worms and the confirmation that i will never live independently, and it won't help when the world slowly collapses either. idk man. i just wish i could do things.

Believe me, the worst person you know is an educated something who have master degree/PhD holder who likes to read a lot.
So it doesn't mean anything that deep. Just read a book. Anything you want. It's more important that you could read than not being able to read.

i hope that in 2025 u get to take more walks, read more books, connect with more people whom u love and who love u, achieve ur goals (even if ur goals are having no goals and just living in the moment), exercise fun hobbies, move from a place of self-direction, and weave together a beguiling assortment of beautiful little moments. remember that no feeling lasts forever. love u
