How many times have Natsu witnessed someone threatening Lucy or trying to harm/kill her? For a long time, he was able to save her. At the same time, she was becoming stronger and more confident. So much so she could be able to not only defend herself, but her loved ones, too. Yet, Natsu did lose her once. It was future Lucy, yes, but if we think about it, the whole scene might be interpreted as “Lucy has no future”, which is more or less the same as “Lucy’s dead”.

So imagine how he felt back then. Back when he saw future Lucy die in front of him. Being unable to stop Rogue’s deadly attack. Mashima didn’t even draw his expression in that scene. That’s how much it affected Natsu.

So what happened now is not surprising to me.

It’s the first time he’s actually lost Lucy for real. At least that’s how it looked to him. My guess is he was still moving in Dimaria’s time, wasn’t realizing it, Lucy was frozen in time and he thought she was dead.

Imagine how overwhelmingly painful this sight was for him. So much it triggered the END transformation.

If this transformation is reversible, which it probably is, there are a couple of ways for it to end (pun not intended, but I’m still chuckling at it nonetheless, sorry) - either his friends will have to reach to his heart, or one specific girl will have to bring him back. The question is, how far will END go before someone manages to stop him?

I’m expecting some good chapters in the next few weeks. Things are getting interesting.
