Self Improvement Tips to Be a Better Person
Who wouldn't want to become a better person? Who wouldn't like to achieve inner peace and a positive mindset to help us deal with life's challenges? You might be thinking, though, that self-improvement is a pipe dream. But the truth is, it is quite achievable if you put your mind and heart into it. If you incorporate good habits, thoughts and deeds into your daily routine, attaining personal growth will be a cinch. Below are examples of the small but significant things you can do to unleash the winner in you.
Tumblr media
1. Get fit and look your best. Self-improvement should include both your inner and outer aspects. Life coaches who espouse personal growth just can't stress enough the importance of looking and feeling the best you can be physically. The premise is that when you are at your physical best, you develop self confidence. You will be willing to meet new people and you can turn something as mundane as shopping for clothes into a nice experience. No longer will you have to ask for a larger size and endure the smirks of sales people! So get on an exercise program and start eating healthy. Don't do anything drastic, though. If you haven't worked out in a long time, you can start off by walking around your neighborhood three times a day, for a few minutes each day. Don't be in a rush to get fit right way; otherwise, you might only do yourself harm.
2. Don't feel guilty about treating yourself. Self-improvement is also about taking care of your wants, not just your needs. You deserve a treat every now and then, and you don't even need a special occasion to justify your purchase. You worked hard for your money and you earned it honestly; hence, you have the right to enjoy it. It will be good for your morale and personal growth to experience the fruits of your labor, such as a new purse, outfit, steak dinner or even a massage at a day spa. The occasional indulgence - as long as it's not financially excessive - will inspire you to work harder so you can continue to treat yourself every now and then.
3. Be generous. Being generous doesn't mean you have to give money or material things to other people. You can be generous with your time. Cap off your self-improvement efforts by reaching out to those in need. Volunteer time at an orphanage or home for the elderly. Helping others will do so much wonders for your spirit and personal growth. It will give you a sense of fulfillment that no material acquisition can ever match. Do what you can to bring a smile to other people's faces for a better you and a better world.
4. Don't be a control freak. It's normal to want to always be in control, but in some situations, we need to learn to let go of things we can't change. It's not healthy to dwell on circumstances beyond our control, so instead, focus on what you can do and move on. If Plan A doesn't work, move to Plan B. We don't always get what we want in life.

5. Laugh it off. Make self-improvement fun by developing a great sense of humor. Personal growth should include plenty of laughter to make life more exciting. When you learn to not take things too seriously and see the humor in even the most awkward and embarrassing situations, your days will be lighter and it will be easier for you to build great memories. So the next time you commit a boo-boo, apologize and laugh it off. And when someone else commits the error, laugh with him, not at him.
Self-improvement will always be a work in progress. Life is dynamic and will continue to present us with all sorts of challenges. So rise to the challenge, take life head on and enjoy the ride to personal growth. Don't stop moving, don't stop learning. Good luck and enjoy the journey.

How to Practice Effectively
Mastering any physical skill, be it performing a pirouette, playing an instrument, or throwing a baseball, takes practice. Practice is the repetition of an action with the goal of improvement, and it helps us perform with more ease, speed, and confidence.
Tumblr media
There are many theories that attempt to quantify the number of hours, days, and even years of practice that it takes to master a skill. While we don’t yet have a magic number, we do know that mastery isn’t simply about the amount of hours of practice. It’s also the quality and effectiveness of that practice. Effective practice is consistent, intensely focused, and targets content or weaknesses that lie at the edge of one’s current abilities. So if effective practice is the key, how can we get the most out of our practice time?
Below are 4 tips for practicing better for just about anything!
Tumblr media
1. Focus on the task at hand. Minimize potential distractions by turning off the computer or TV and putting your cell phone on airplane mode. In one study, researchers observed 260 students studying. On average, those students were able to stay on task for only six minutes at a time. Laptops, smartphones, and particularly Facebook were the root of most distractions.
Tumblr media
2. Start out slowly or in slow-motion. Coordination is built with repetitions, whether correct or incorrect. If you gradually increase the speed of the quality repetitons, you have a better chance of doing them correctly.
Tumblr media
3. Next, frequent repetitions with allotted breaks are common practice habits of elite performers. Studies have shown that many top athletes, musicians, and dancers spend 50-60 hours per week on activities related to their craft. Many divide their time used for effective practice into multiple daily practice sessions of limited duration.
Tumblr media
4. Finally, practice in your brain in vivid detail. It’s a bit surprising, but a number of studies suggest that once a physical motion has been established, it can be reinforced just by imagining it. In one study, 144 basketball players were divided into two groups. Group A physically practiced one-handed free throws while Group B only mentally practiced them. When they were tested at the end of the two week experiment, the intermediate and experienced players in both groups had improved by nearly the same amount.
Tumblr media
As scientists get closer to unraveling the secrets of our brains, our understanding of effective practice will only improve. In the meantime, effective practice is the best way we have of pushing our individual limits, achieving new heights, and maximizing our potential.

how to make new habits?
1. make a separate list - apart from daily, weekly, monthly tasks, think of it as a new year resolutions, have it written down somewhere else, so it won’t disappear from your to-do lists like other temporary parts
2. think about the future benefits - i’ve talked a lot about being aware of the future, it helps to stay motivated by giving yourself an insight of what could be, in this case how you could improve yourself
3. use helps like alarms - to simply make it easier, set an alarm for the habit task; this will be especially useful if it’s about getting used to taking certain medications
4. associate them with other habits - imagine yourself doing them before, with or after your already made habits; for me, whenever i put water on stove, i drink a glass of water, as a part of my “water first, coffee second” habit in the morning
5. start daily - it’s like doing the more difficult problems first! if it’s something you want to do, let’s say 4 times a week, go hard on it and start with 7 times a week; sometimes it will be easier to break it down than it would be to build up
remember - not every tip works for every habit, first make a decision on which matches which! if you want to have a better insight on habits, i recommend “the power of habit” by charles duhigg
good luck, stay motivated!

I want black women to know we’re all deserving of love, peace, opportunity, stability, respect, joy and abundance. I want us to know that there’s always enough. I want more black women to have an abundance mindset. A growth mindset. A wealth mindset. I want us to be on a path of continuous self-improvement— always getting better. I want us to continue loving and supporting each other. I want us to focus on creating better for ourselves and those around us. I want us to think higher and bigger.

Once you get a taste of bettering yourself, it becomes addictive in the best sense, it becomes a priority to put your wellbeing first, your health, your growth, your education. All you’re going to be focused on is how to become the best version of you possible. This is the most powerful form of living; as all the energy otherwise wasted on comparison, doubt, etc is invested into you, as it should be.
