specific valentine’s day au prompts
we were both out with separate groups of friends being single and our groups merged and we started arguing about ____ (dc vs marvel, star wars vs star trek, etc) and our friends just left us thinking we were flirting. (we were)
dating site au
our plane got delayed on valentine’s day and I knew it’d be a crappy day but just wanted to go home until I struck up a conversation with you
our mutual friend just tricked us into a blind date but left us with their credit card so we should make the most out of it
eating cookies/treats that taste awful just to see the other person smile
“are you a pokemon because I choose you” (aka I’ve been crushing on you for a long time and my friend dared me to ask you out with the cheesiest line I could think of so if you said no I could brush it off as a joke but please say yes)
trying to one up each other on valentine’s day things because we’re super competitive like that
my neighbour just dumped you and I heard all of it and you’ve been crying in the hallway for like ten minutes now, are you okay?
I wrote the number down wrong and started texting you but it all turned out okay
“what do you mean we’ve been dating for two months, who taught you communication?” (but hey I’m down for it)
I was so tired the other day and accidentally kissed you good-bye and didn’t realize it till this morning and we should probably talk about this
you went all secret admirer and I’ve been gushing to you about the gifts but haven’t figured out it’s you yet (but really want it to be)
“wow it’s like I’m stuck in a hallmark movie”
my cat/dog/pet keeps going over to your house and we’re meeting for the first time now
we were the third wheels for our friends who dragged us to a valentine’s day city scavenger hunt and got partnered together
somehow you convinced me to watch horror movies for valentine’s day so the least you could do is hold my hand/cuddle through them
insert soulmates au here
I’m the bartender and your date never showed but we’ve talking all night and it’s been fun
we’re in a long distance relationship and it’s valentine’s day so clearly something needs to be done (sending a box with gifts, showing up unannounced, literally running into each other at the airport because we both had the same idea of surprising each other and my flight just happened to be earlier and we got lucky, etc)
“did it hurt when you fell? this isn’t a line or anything, I literally just saw you trip and am asking if you’re okay but if you want it to be a line I can work with that too”

It's been a while since I posted anything here. I know I've done this song and dance over and over but there are some days where I look back at old posts I made about musketeers and remember how much fun I had in season one versus how much I was horrified by what the show became in season two. I put so much time and energy into the characters and into the world that I feel I've never gotten it back and tagged with aos I felt burned by fandom and now hardly ever put anything in tags on my other blog unless it's a gifset. I really do miss that enjoyment I had for all that even thinking about it exhausts me now.

me: *watching how some people are trivializing people pointing out the genuine problem of casting white people as klingons like trek hasn’t had a history of black face and acting like people are only whining about how the klingons look (who look fucking stupid if that even is them, what is this god damn jj abrams verse?)*

*dusts off this blog*
a little while ago I was thinking of rewatching season one of musketeers. logically I know this could only end in heartbreak and renewed anger for what could have been for the characters I love while the other side of me reminded me how much I adored the first season of the show.
I’ve seen people talk about before how much this is much closer to the books or ‘historical accuracy’ etc. etc. and it’s not that season one didn’t have some rather terrible things happening but for the most part it was a much more enjoyable show in comparison to the graphic deaths and even beatings of women on the screen (which isn’t to say that season one didn’t to that as well, it just hardly had them last a full minute as we watched a man strangle a woman to death in his anger). because the show took a turn in season two, it needed to be darker, edgier, and prove that it belonged in that later time slot which no longer offered it as more family appropriate show.
it was for adults, that was the message, and fine I suppose, that happens. it’s just a bad state of media that ‘for adults’ and ‘darker, edgier’ is often akin to the rise of violence against women in a tv show. tragedy must occur there, after all it did in the books, right? why should I complain about it when it was honouring the source material even more? perhaps because I did want better than the source material, because in the first season it honoured parts of that while also making the show fun and the characters enjoyable to watch and get invested in. sure they got their happy ending in season three but there was no way for me to know that in season two and why invest in seeing characters broken down more and more for the ‘art’ of the show when there was no indication that it could get better in anyway.
I realize that I put to much in to the musketeers, it was a tiny show with a tiny fandom and I shouldn’t have been expecting it to remain enjoyable but damn if it didn’t have such potential to keep that up after season one. season one made me laugh in a time when I needed the idea of people staying together and enjoying each others company. so I could rewatch season one, bittersweet about it and live out the adventures the team could have had in my head. I’m just sad the writers never cared about the same way.

bean-about-townn replied to your post “I’m fucking dying, oh my god. musketeers completely falls into that...”
haaaaaa oh i saw that post too, it's horrific, isn't it? for me the worst part of it was "the character with the strongest and most well established character arc on the whole show is a young woman who achieves everything she is destined for through her own strength and the support of her closest friends without having to compromise her integrity ONCE" i just. my god
I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU SLEPT WITH THE QUEEN THAT I HAD TO SEE THIS IN 2017.
oh my goddddddd, I got to that part after I posted this cause first I was just stuck on that line and I do not think we were watching the same show.

@thefemalemusketeer
what isn’t going on with fandom these days. so, two video game fandoms I’m in are having a lot of issues. (I think I told you about one? I can’t remember now)
Pretty much there’s this game H*rizon Zer* D*wn and it take a looooot from Native American ideals and fandom meanwhile is trying to argue that it doesn’t. yes sure, why else is the white girl dressed like this (in the future no less):
Tumblr media
and then there’s Overw*tch, they created something for the Lunar New Year pretty much and a Chinese fan complained because they were hurt by what they saw as cultural appropriation (it really kinda was in some areas, like yikes), and then fans argued back no it wasn’t and it’s a clusterfuck of a disaster pretty much with fans over riding someone’s actual concern when it comes to how their culture is being displayed.
and then of course there’s the Star Wars fandom, oh the star wars fandom, how utterly racist you are. because they’re still cutting Finn out of their discussions and gifsets and when pointed out about it suddenly it’s a complaint that they can’t write/create for characters of colour because then they’ll be seen as racists so it’s better to just accept the title and not do anything about Finn either way apparently.
and then there’s Star Trek and literally merging bendickface’s face with the original actor who played Khan and arguing he looks like him and they were justified in the casting of a white guy for a role that’s meant for a moc.
pretty much fandom is the terrible thing it always is and I’m tried.

I don’t like that discovery just cast a white woman as a klingon, for one thing star trek in the past has had a huge problem with casting white actors and using blackface.
Kang, Kor, Koloth, Martok, the Duras sisters, Alexander, practically every klingon that’s not Worf, B’Elanna, or Worf’s brother has been played by a white person and I’m very worried they’ll continue this trend with the new show apparently. I mean she could be half something else (maybe human but that makes little sense since given the time period of discovery) or an albino klingon which we know has happened before but at first glance this really has me worried they haven’t learned better by now.

star trek discovery: *casts two white guys and Michelle Yeoh but keeps forgetting to mention she's not 'the' captain but captain of another ship and only a reoccurring character but oh it's all okay because one of the white guys is gay and so is his character so this is progress!!!!*

I’ve been rereading old HP theories and stories and of course remembering all the bullshit that happened back in those days. I was really young when I got into fandom, I had older siblings who happened to leave webpages open and of course I scrolled in and found the same sites they did.
Anyway, in a couple of months I’ll be 27, that’s about roughly the same age Cassandra Clare was when the plagiarism debacle got uncovered and it’s made me stop to think. This woman was my age, she had a lot of impact on younger fans and the fandom at large and I can still see that impact today passed down from older fans now my age to younger ones again. Because she was constantly raging on Ginny, declaring her boring and swearing the books shouldn’t end with her and Harry. And from there of course other fans came to hate Ginny and there were hate websites and other bullshittery and this woman was in her late twenties.
That’s the thing that really gets me, because she should have known what she was doing, a) with the fucking plagiarism and b) with the way she talked to younger fans. because don’t get me wrong, she encouraged them but also talked down to them and she always struck me as very condescending. It was clear one day you could be her friend and the next she was siccing her lawyer on you.
And it’s so fucked up the way she used that power because I undoubtedly feel she used it. You agreed with her or you were a fandom pariah and her many fans were ready to tear you into pieces. It’s a testament to how older fans can sway younger ones but they should know better than that. And I’m not saying don’t educate people on the problems within fandom, I’m saying that what you say online will affect people. Because if one BNF hates a female character then that becomes the standard and each time a new series comes into play another female character is targeted. And of course I always chalk up the huge love of anti heroes and plain white guy villains to her and her woobification and literal trait of ‘draco in leather trousers’. It may not be completely her fault because fandom was always trash but believe me, she made it popular.

so musketeers is finally done. I’m free! and while this ride went way up in season one and down to the pits of the earth in season two and somewhere in between in season three all in all I was just so critical of the show because I had loved it and the characters so much.
this show still means a lot to me, it gave me the courage to speak in a fandom and make friends and I’ll always love that but on the flip side it pissed me off a hell of a lot. you win some you lose some, this is fandom after all.
at least at the end of the day I can officially say: that portance cheek kiss > all const*gnan scenes. their smiles were just too precious in that scene..

I’m never going to love Athos or Aramis or d’Artagnan again like I did back in season one. I’ve accepted that fact, they and the fandom parts that sprung up from them got on my nerves one too many times.
But for fuck sake stop saying that Sylvie doesn’t “deserve” Athos. You didn’t say that when Ninon popped up and this relationship between them has a) gotten more screen time and b) gotten more development from that screen time and you can tell that they work well together both on and off the field. So stop making this about Mil*thos and crying that a WoC got in the way of your pairing and can’t she just ‘be on her on’ or whatever, it’s rare enough that Musketeers added a WoC as a regular let alone had her in a relationship with one of the main Musketeers so fine you don’t like it, but suck it and your racism against Sylvie up and shut up.

threefeettotheleft replied to your post “actually wait, I’m also amused they’re upset that she’s spending too...”
i finally enjoyed constagnan precisely because she got to have a life that didn't directly revolve around him.
I’ve been through too much in the fandom now (and bitterness of season 2) to ever really kinda like it like I did in season one but like..... you just can’t have characters that revolve solely around their romantic partner like that. sure they can be fully in love and all that but let them interact with others, it’s what makes for interesting developments. I’ve been so happy this season’s at least given me that.
