This very moment will forever stand as proof that Penelope Featherington is just as much "my husband" to Colin Bridgerton, as he is "my wife" to her.

After the Butterfly Ball.

After the unmasking.

After the storm and the stunning calm that followed.

After he looked at her—truly looked at her—and said: “I love every part of you. Even the sharpest parts. Especially the sharpest parts.”

And now, in the hush of their shared sanctuary, Penelope is not afraid.

Not of being too much.

Not of being too loud, too clever, too bold.

Not of breaking the rules.

Not of taking what is hers.

She is every ounce the fearless woman he loves—the woman who used ink and wit to carve her name into history, and now, with trembling hands and blazing eyes, carves herself into him.

So many things swirl through her mind in this moment: confidence, peace, the weightless bloom of being chosen. But none of them compare to one single, overwhelming feeling—the unbearable, immeasurable love for Colin Bridgerton.

And in that moment, Penelope Featherington becomes both the writer and the heroine of the love story she always dreamed of. She fulfills her wedding oath like nothing in the world.

The only anti-Debling argument you truly need is that he dumped her by the way.

HE dumped HER. “Penelope should’ve chosen Debling” SHE DID. Did you not watch? She ran after him tried to convince him to propose to her anyway, and he dumped her. He had her, but he decided fighting for her was more trouble than she was worth and dumped her.

And I think people don’t want to reconcile with that because they have this golden boy fantasy of Debling, but they let Penelope become the first and only lead female of Bridgerton who we see get dumped. He turns his back on her and walks away.

And Colin? Colin watches her run after that man, thinks she’s pissed off at him and has no chance at all, is told directly by Penelope that she wants Debling to propose and that she plans on accepting, and what does he do? He chases down her carriage on foot and begs on his knees for her.

I have a whole list of reasons why I hate Debling and that he was included in the season at all, but when it comes down to it the only anti-Debling argument you need is that he dumped her. When Colin said “he will leave you” we already saw it THREE TIMES by that point, even before his expedition. He left her with Cressida. He left her to get hit by the balloon before having to double back. He left her instead of fighting for their engagement. So you can want Penelope to have chosen Debling all you want, but at the end of the day it was always Debling’s choice, and he chose to leave.
