once you recognise the ubiquitous and inevitable fandom life cycle it becomes much easier to free yourself from it and just keep enjoying things in a more healthy way while still thinking critically about them

I am over 40 hours into making my hip pouches and I've finally got the ribbon edge on the front flaps. I'm stalled out until I can make it back to town for more buckles (the last time I tried ordering buckles in the size I need I ended up with 24 yards of 1/4 inch elastic)
Then it'll be quick installing the buckles, sewing the front pieces including the front flaps to the body of the pouches and seam finishing!
#gigs art#cosplay wip#tonight im going to pull out my glove pattern to see how much altering it'll need#gotta get through work first

I can only assume that ppl who are surprised that much of the general public immediately started using & relying on chatgpt for so many things have never worked a customer facing job

Listen, if the writers of Wednesday can get their woefully mischaracterized fanfiction of the Addams Family greenlit by Netflix and win a bunch of awards, so can you.

going with the larger buckles, so I made up the buttonholes but I'll have to wait until I go back into town to get more buckles of the right size
somewhere around here I have my cross stitch that says "mama didn't raise a quitter but she did raise a fool and that's a terrible combination"
I own a fair number of buttons, and right now I don't even need a set of buttons from my stash but I don't know what I did with them during the move.
So I'm going to go put dishes away quick then go back to hunting down a single 7/8 inch button so I can finally make some buttonholes

I'm also at a crossroads because I know that I will like the look of the larger 1" buckles more than the smaller 5/8" buckles, but I already have 6 of the smaller ones and I'd have to go back into town to buy 5 more of the larger size when I work for the next five days.
If I go with the larger size I can make the buttonholes just fine, but I can't work on the rest of the flap since the buckle strap would need to go through the buckle before being stitched in, where if I go with the smaller ones I can power on ahead without it taking another week before the front flaps are ready to go.
Also note that I can't move onto another step at this point because the front flaps are a choke-point of the process and without them I can't attach the front pieces to the body of the pouches that would also include sewing in the buckle straps

23 hours into making hip pouches and the only finished pouch I have is the mockup I made to test my pattern for size.
That pouch is going to be a first aid kit for the tractor so it's not going to languish forgotten in a closet or drawer
#gigs art#cosplay wip#im making them assembly line style because some parts of the process are easier that way#like the screen printing part#also i learned screen printing for this cosplay!

I was grabbing lunch earlier and overheard bits of a conversation where some older (presumably) gentlemen were lamenting how women don't wear big hats anymore, or nylons, or dresses.
Like, there are reasons why those items are no longer part of most women's wardrobes anymore but I'm pretty sure they don't actually care about that.

This is bugging me because everyone keeps asking us this and making me feel underprepared. For context, I fly out a week from today for Scotland. For the last two weeks, people have been asking me if I've got everything packed yet.
I typically don't start packing until 2-3 days before, and when I tell them this, they look at me like I'm nuts.
Am I really that unusual?
