I wish I'd been able to read up your whole back story for Summer, from what I saw it was all very well written. From what I saw, all your writings were really intriguing and we'll thought out (I wish I could word this better lol) basically I super much love(d) this blog, and even though I never quite understood what was going on, I'm really gonna miss seeing you on my dash 💜💜

How can you craft such a deep and complex character so flawlessly?

I’ve had Summer for a very long time. When I first got her, she was Summer C-137, the pink-tank-top-wearing ponytail sass-bucket that I plucked right out of the season two finale.  

The Summer you see here is very organic. I invented NONE of her. I didn’t sit in a Word document and “come up” with her backstory or personality or the events that made her who she is. Every skill, bruise, trauma, failure, success, relationship, death, personality trait, disability, and quirk was one that I wrote out with my own two hands, via RP with other muses. It was a long and painful process.

If you point to a scar on her body, I can pull up the thread where she got it. If you ask why see feels ____ about ____, I can pull up the thread that gave birth to that feeling. I can even pull up the thread where she BUILT her trademark compound bow with her own two hands, piece by piece. 

So I didn’t INVENT Summer, so much as I watched her BE CREATED over time. 

When something happens to her, I don’t ask myself, “Okay, how might my muse react to this?” She knows exactly what to do, and I type it out. And she surprises me constantly.

Do you have any advice for beginning RPers?

Know why you’re here. To relax and unwind? To cope? To write complex plots and characters? To meet people? To vent sexual frustrations? Find other people who are here for the same reason. Someone who is RPing to write complex plots and characters in order to cope with trauma isn’t going to have a fabulous time trying to write with someone who is really just here to have fun, write one-sentence responses, smut, and meet people. There’s nothing wrong ANY of those goals, but it really helps to make sure everyone wants the same thing out of a thread or interaction. Otherwise someone is going to leave disappointed and that’s no good!

Trust that everyone here is as awkward and nervous as you. Most of us don’t get messaged enough, so never feel like you’re bothering someone if you just pop in and say, “Hey, I’m kind of new to Tumblr RP/this community, but I’d love to write a little with you, if you’d be willing to take the lead.” 99% of the time, everyone is super nice and wants to help.

NOTHING YOU DO IN CHARACTER IS WORTH OUT OF CHARACTER PAIN. If something in your RP life is making your real life uncomfortable—whether it’s amping up your anxiety, making you feel triggered or threatened, or in general is just not resulting in positive vibes for you—STOP. No apologies.
