types of note takers

a: spend more time picking which pen and washi tape to use than actually taking notes. their notebook is a giant rainbow explosion.

b: simple. one pen, one notebook, maybe a highlighter if they’re feeling fancy.

c: takes notes on their laptop. organized, minimalist, timely. they have two windows open at all times: homework and tumblr.

d: doesn’t take many notes because they zone out for half of each class and is on their phone for the rest.

e: audio records the classes as well as taking notes by hand. later re-writes notes and types them *just in case* they lose their notebook. they never do.

f: never actually shows up to class, and if they do, they somehow forgot to bring a pen and paper.

g: you never see them taking any notes, instead they are always eating chipotle or mcdonalds in class. yet somehow they have the highest grade in the class.

I recently saw a meme on Facebook that said something along the lines of “how to make a millennial panic: lock them in a room with only a phone book and a rotary phone and write the instructions in cursive!” It had this smug “aha, gotcha” vibe oozing out of it, and it…just sort of made me laugh. Like, really? Really? But it also made me think…

Beyond the fact that I know how to use both a phone book and a rotary phone and can read cursive (as long as it’s not too horrifically messy), I think it was the attitude of “Oh no, we’ve got you because you couldn’t possibly figure out how to use something that’s new to you” that really made me snort. But I think that’s the key to this and similar memes that I’ve seen.

They don’t think we could figure out how to use something new to us, because they can’t do it. 

Like, if you presented a millennial with a rotary phone or a phone book and they had never, ever used one or seen one used before, I can guarantee pretty much any millennial could figure out how to use it. Because that’s what we do: we adapt. We’ve been through so many variations of technology and seen so many new forms of technology emerge that we’ve had to learn to adapt swiftly and fluidly. It’s second nature to us.

Put a boomer in a room with a smartphone, laptop, and tablet however, and well…different story.

I’m not sure if they literally don’t understand that presenting a millennial with something they haven’t encountered before would not be an obstacle and certainly not a panic-inducing one, or if they just say things like that to make themselves feel better that they couldn’t do the equivalent, or if it’s a combination of the above.

Your friend looked at you weirdly and stopped eating her food. "Ya, put that down! You need to pick a dress for our prom!"

You pouted. You have this big crush on IN. You liking him is not low key tho. Its all around the school except him. But that was before!

"Im sure you are tired, Chan. You should get some sleep," you said while trying to remove his hands wrapped around you.

He just hugged you tighter and walked while hugging you. That made you scream because you might fall if he will keep doing that.

Before you could protest again you felt the soft fabric of your bed on your back. Chan is beside you still hugging you tightly.

"Chan! Let go of me! I will fix your things first," you said but he just shrugged it off and hugged you tighter.

Han is in your apartment and he got out fr your room to buy some food when you heard him outside talking. You wondered who could he be talking too but you realized he was talking to your neighbors or the other boarders in this apartment. You are not really close with your neighbors. You haven't even talked to them once. It amazes you that Han can easily talk to anyone.

When he came back inside your room you aksed him what took him so long. He rubbed the back of his head. "I got carried away by your neighbor's story. Sorry for that."

"Oh you got it right! Do you have some cigarette there?" You asked her.

She shook her head as a sign of disagreement but still gave you one.

You were panting as soon as you got there. Chan noticed you right away.

"You here to smoke?" He asked. You looked at him only to get stunned by his actions. You watched as he bring the stick in his lips with his long fingers. He sucks in smoke and pulls it away and you watched the smoke come out from his mouth. It all seemed like slow motion. He is so hot!

You only got back to your senses when a smirk formed on his lips.

You are about to ask him for a lighter but you were taken a back when his face suddenly came close to yours. You stepped back because of that. He was surprised too.

He cleared his throat and stood straight again. He put his hand on his pocket.

"Thought you'd want me to help you light your cigarette," he said.

"Oh! Yeah!" You chuckled nervously and looked at th3 cigarette in your hands. He tossed lighter to you.

How am I suppose to do this thing?

"Didnt know that you smoke," he said as he looked at you then looked away again.

You did not answer him instead you put the cigarette in your lips and tried to light it. But when you tried to pull in smoke you started coughing.

Chan looked at you and patted your back as you continued coughing.

What the hell!? This is so embarassing. I want to disappear!

He laughed then snatched the cigar away in your hands. He threw it together with his.

As soon as you recovered he tucked your hair in your ears and he moved his face closer to yours and whispered.

"You should stop smoking, baby girl. I would not like to kiss your lips and taste some taste of cigarette in it."

He did not looked at you after saying that. He just walked past you to go inside your workplace again leaving you there stunned.

@ stray kids writers or people needing authentic australian jargon

as an australian, i often cringe at fics setting them selves in australia and just the complete inaccuracy of slang some people use. so i’m here with 15 authentic aussie things that australians often say or talk about:

S’carn’on?: “What’s going on?” Australians speak fast, so short common sentences like these usually have words blending together. S’koin’on is another example of it.

Example;

“Hey, s’carn’on?” 

“Oh, nothing much.”

Yeah, nah: “No.” this is often used in a casual sense, but Australians are casual with many people.

Example;

“Would you like lime with that?” 

“Yeah, nah.”

Nah, yeah: “Yes.” again, casual. But the difference with this is that it is usually used as a recovery after being sarcastic (which is 70% of our dialogue I swear).

Example;

“What’s up?” 

“The sky?” 

“…” 

“Haha nah, yeah I’m good.”

The Milo debate: Australia is divided into people that put Milo on the bottom and people that put it on the top, and most are very opinionated about their Milo preferences. Use this as a petty argument thing.

Example;

“Your argument is invalid.” 

“Why?!” 

“You put Milo first, not milk.”
