Double chin.

A permanent cushion propping up your face. A spare tire around your neck. Even more than a belly, it's your most visible feature, announcing to the whole world that you are fat.

At first, it only bulges out when you look down. Then, it puffs out when you put on a scarf in winter. Then, it grows thicker, restricting your movement, preventing you from twisting your head downwards too much. Accompanied by the neck roll, it feels like a fat collar slowly creeping up your neck.

In heat, it gets sweaty. You're developing creases. You have to powder your neck, and you get embarrassed. Squeeze it too much with a collar, and you look like a fat dough spilling out of the baking form. For now, it still looks like your original chin is resting on the newfound roll of fat, but you know that in the future, it will all become a large hanging slab of flab, with the bare hint of your chin adorning it like a tiny smile.

People look at you, and they think: fat. Cherubic. Butterball. There are plenty of "overweight" people who only carry it in their bellies, and they don't really get the double chin as thick as yours. But you have crossed the point of mere chubbiness, and you are in full fat territory. This is the moment when you're no longer just you from the past with a belly added; your facial features are starting to change. Entombed in fat, your face loses its cheekbones; your lips turn into a cute pucker, squished by fat cheeks; after a while, even your eyes slowly disappear, squeezed into slits. This is no longer just an indulgence, it's a transformation.

And it all starts with that little crease under your chin.
