“You’re fine, Shara.” Han was equally as restless ——– the dome over Coruscant making everyone with an affinity for flight a little more miserable than most.” You’re not the only one itching to get back up there.”
“Well enough.” Getting acclimated was still her biggest concern ( and thankfully coming much easier now ), and now with the additions of the fire, and the detainment, and the full - on realization that she was the mother of four? “Hanging in there.” Which is what anyone would say, wouldn’t they? Made things easier.
“What about you? Being able to spend time with Poe must be helping.”
“Han as well, I can assume?” Shara had only met Han in passing, but she could only guess he was similar to her in that he needed to fly.
“Mm, I can relate. Seeing Poe and being able to spend time with him is helping, but I missed so much of his life. I last saw him when he was eight, now he’s a full blown adult.” She shouldn’t complain, she knows she shouldn’t. “Even with that said, I cannot express how proud I am of him.”

“I hate to sound like I’m complaining, I just can not stand staying grounded.” Especially in times as tense as this, Shara needed to be in the air or space. Whether she was fighting or just flying to clear her head, she needed to be away from solid ground.
“How are you handling this, your highness?”

Poe didn’t know how to talk about his dad to her, not really. He loved his dad but they had run into quite a bit of problems after her death. A lot of that was probably because he was a single dad with a pretty… mouthy son. Something that only got worse with the death of his mom. So with a bit of a smile, he laughed a bit.
“I know that much. Always said I had your eyes too, actually…” he added to her. He quirked his lip a bit at her, glancing around the district they were in. It was nice to just have a normal conversation without the war getting in the way. “So… how’s getting reacquainted going? Meet anyone interesting?”
“Mmhm, you do. You’re very welcome for them both.” She leaned over and playfully messed up his hair. At his questions, she pulled back and thought for a moment. “Ah, I met Finn! I like him, he’s very sweet. He kept complimenting you, so I definitely liked him. Rey, as well.”
She hesitated before asking, “So...You and Finn, you saved each other, yeah?” She knows he’s in a relationship (of sorts? Shara isn’t quite sure.), but she couldn’t help but wonder. “No feelings there at all?”

“Hey, Cienna, right?” Shara stopped the girl with a small smile. “I’m about to work on some ships, feel like joining me?”

“Poe makes me so proud, I can’t even put it words. How high in the ranks he’s gotten, how good of a person he still is despite all he’s gone through.” Shara’s grin was wide, until she thought of something else to say, something much sadder. “I just wish I could’ve been there for his whole life, I never should’ve gotten on that ship.”

“Cienna? A great mechanic, great person. I’ve only met her once, but I know she’s a good friend of Poe’s so she’s a good friend of mine as well. I heard she got hurt sometime ago, I hate that I haven’t had time to go see how she’s been.”

“Poe...what?” Shara looked at her son with wide eyes. “Is that some new slang I missed out on? Please tell me it’s that.”

✰ — — — BUZZFEED UNSOLVED SENTENCE STARTERS
‘ do you think we’re gonna die here tonight? ’ ‘ it’s horrifying, chilling… just over all not good. ’ ‘ should we just get this over with? ’ ‘ he’s a fucking criminal. ’ ‘ sharing is caring? meh, go fuck yourself. ’ ‘ oh god, um… oh my god, i fucking hate this. ’ ‘ stop banging on the door, you dick. ’ ‘ what. the fuck. is wrong with you. ’ ‘ i gotta be honest, this doesn’t really compel me very much. ’ ‘ that was a joke that i made and then it formed your opinion on it. ’ ‘ flip that switch. do you think that’s the murder switch? ’ ‘ this is embarrassing. this is embarrassing for you, i think. ’ ‘ no one’s ghost-proof. ’ ‘ i’m ghost-proof. ’ ‘ you’re not ghost-proof. you’re just an idiot who refuses to see proof. ’ ‘ i’m ghost-proof, baby! ’ ‘ that sounded like will smith! ’ ‘ is will smith dead? has anyone checked the news?! ’ ‘ the problem is if there’s something that attacks us down here, i’m going to hit my head on the ceiling and my skull will smash. ’ ‘ alright, buddy. keep your wits about ya. ’ ‘ let’s get the fuck out of here. ’ ‘ i kind of just looked into places that would make me wanna die and i think this checks that box. ’ ‘ did i just blind you? good, good, good. it’ll give you the vision. ’ ‘ take a drink! ’ ‘ i’m gonna get you all tanked. ’ ‘ what do you expect? what insight are you trying to gather from here? ’ ‘ maybe the noise is a little snake. can you imagine a little snake wrapped around a little pickaxe with a little hat on? ’ ‘ i’m not trying to do that whole dismissive thing, but… i’m dismissing it. ’ ‘ alright. alright, man. you just gotta chill. ’ ‘ i thought ‘glory hole’ used to mean something very innocuous, though. ’ ‘ it’s where the men fucked the earth hoping to impregnate it with gold. ’ ‘ a bug flew up my nose. ’ ‘ i think i’ve swallowed about six tablespoons of bugs at this point. ’ ‘ it’s so silent aside from the bugs in my ears. ’ ‘ a bat flew right behind you just now. ’ ‘ that bat was straight-up going for your ass… it was an ass bat. ’ ‘ dude, i’m so nervous. ’ ‘ how can you be nervous with a beautiful sunset like that? ’ ‘ there’s some pretty shitty things that have happened to people around here. ’ ‘ can you even look at least a little bit worried? ’ ‘ yeah, i’m fucking nervous, man. i feel like i’m gonna vomit. ’ ‘ we’re all assholes here. ’ ‘ i don’t know why i phrased it ‘lucky for us.’ i think i was feeling brave when i wrote this. ’ ‘ yeah, this isn’t lucky for you at all. ’ ‘ i’m gonna try and avoid saying ‘demon’ as much as i can. ’ ‘ i’m not gonna let you goad me into this, i know what you’re trying to do. ’ ‘ shut up. we’re moving on. ’ ‘ you know what? i’m not trying to scare you, but… i got a bad feeling about this one. ’ ‘ why are you unbuttoning your pants? we’re in public right now. ’ ‘ oh… you’ve out-dumbed yourself. ’ ‘ you know, i thought this was gonna be funny, but now i’m actually happy that i have it. ’ ‘ i’m a whole other coin. just like a chill ass wheat-back penny. ’ ‘ i’m doing it for the betterment of the science. ’ ‘ any demons here? you got any demons out tonight? any horn-y boys or whatever they are. ’ ‘ you may not like this… i’m gonna try to agitate it. ’ ‘ you do what you gotta do and i’ll do what i gotta do. ’ ‘ i’m just gonna be as crude as possible here. ’ ‘ no, no, no. just right out of the gate. why build up? ’ ‘ if you don’t believe then there’s nothing for you to be afraid of, right? ’ ‘ you can be is big of a prick as you want, but i’m staying over here. ’ ‘ if you want me off this bridge, you’re gonna have to kill me. ’ ‘ nope! don’t loop me into your shit! ’ ‘ stop looping me. i hate when you do this to me in demon places. ’ ‘ i’m not part of his little charade. ’ ‘ children will come here and tell tales about me. ’ ‘ shut the fuck up – i’m gonna murder you. ’ ‘ oh what a load of horse shit. ’ ‘ oh, skip the theatrics and just go into it. ’ ‘ if you want me off this bridge, you’re gonna have to throw me off. ’ ‘ you gotta admit, that is an effective technique. ’ ‘ no, it’s not an effective technique. it’s a way to get killed. ’ ‘ that’s not how you get them, shut up. ’ ‘ when’s the last time you ever walked into the dark woods? ’ ‘ this is so much scarier than hunting fucking sasquatch. ’ ‘ people usually feel overcome with emotion in here, like a violent emotion. ’ ‘ give me a heads up if you start to feel murderous. i would appreciate that. ’ ‘ by the way, these woods are also scary because of the people that might be in there. ’ ‘ i mean, people are greater threats than demons or ghouls. ’ ‘ i can’t fight, you can’t fight. ’ ‘ you’re like one of those carwash floaty things that are out front just wiggling around. ’ ‘ anyone doing up to no good out here? ’ ‘ one of these times we’re gonna die. ’ ‘ oh shit! there’s something over there. i don’t know what it is, but the bushes are moving. ’ ‘ i just heard a scream. ’ ‘ well, if we just make it seem like we’re in on it, like… we’re here for the cult stuff. ’ ‘ we’re here for the cult stuff. we saw the ad on craigslist. ’ ‘ it feels weird to even joke. i’m so fucking scared right now. ’ ‘ oh sure they’d be hiding in the bushes. they’re cultists. ’ ‘ i keep collecting spiderwebs on my face and now i’m just sort of immune to them. i’m just letting them accumulate. ’ ‘ well, you are just a giant stick walking around. ’ ‘ oh, this looks fun… an odd collection of branches. looks like a witch lair or something. ’ ‘ hello? you can’t be doing occult stuff like this. it’s a weeknight. ’ ‘ dude, wait. you’re fucking crazy. ’ ‘ you need to chill. you need to chill out. ’ ‘ hey man, it’s just a plant. ’ ‘ we kicked goatman off the bridge, it’s ours now. ’ ‘ goatman, are you out here in the woo– well, he’s out here in the woods ‘cause he’s not tending to his bridge. ’ ‘ clearly. that’s why finders keepers and all that. ’ ‘ hey, if there’s cultists out there… i gotta let you know, my pal has a water gun. ’ ‘ i don’t like this, i don’t like this one bit. ’ ‘ we are hearing noise from all sides at this point. it’s very blair witch. ’ ‘ yeah, let’s leave. ’ ‘ the name ‘steve’ doesn’t really strike fear into the heart. ’ ‘ i’ll go along with this. fun gimmick. ’ ‘ well demons, it’s been fun. ’ ‘ as we snuff these candles so too do we snuff you from this mortal world, you fucking wimp. ’ ‘ this bridge is officially mine. they’ll tell legends of me here. ’ ‘ oh god, i feel like i’ve gone to the dark side. ’ ‘ just gloat a little bit. this is a win for you. ’

renegvdex:
truthfully, he had never expected to meet poe’s mother —– especially not in the disheveled mess he appeared to be. he had just finished his routinely personal training where he usually practiced his hand to hand combat with eye tracking to see if he was still up to par. he was mid unwrapping of the bandages of his fist as she greeted herself, extending his own hand to shake her hand.
❛❛ nice to meet you too, m-ms.shara. i, uh.. how can i help you today, ma’am? i’m sorry that we found each other like this. i was hoping to look more… decent when we met. ❜❜
after all first impressions with the mother of your best friend really mattered, didn’t it?
“Don’t worry, Finn. If what I’ve been told is correct, you saved my son’s life. So believe me when I say, you could be wearing a paper bag for all I care. I just want to meet the person who saved my kid from the First Order.” Shara reassured.
“And please, just call me Shara.” She smiled warmly at him.

They had decided to actually take some time to catch up- walk around the city some. Poe had a place to get lunch in mind in everything. He was going to get some time with his mom- the last couple months had been stressful, and despite being able to see her again, they hadn’t had time to talk about… whatever. There was always something more pressing.
He looked away from the street and at his mom, smiling a bit at her, letting out a small laugh, “You think so? Dad always says that I look like you.” He’d only seen hints of resemblance of either of them- his dads nose, his moms eyes. Past that he didn’t know. Running a hand ove his jaw, he shrugged a bit, “Maybe he just wanted to see you in me?”
“Hm, that’s what I think too.” Shara smiled at that. She stopped being upset at being seperated from Kes, if he was even still alive. She tried focusing on the happy memories, and the possibility he could someday arrive on the planet. Even if it was wishful thinking, she was too exhausted with past pain and loss, she couldn’t dare do it anymore.
“My parents said the same about me when I was younger, my mother thought I looked like my father and vice versa. Couples like to see each other in their children, I believe. But I can say with all confidence, that messy curly hair? All mine, angel.”

Despite the past few months being tumultuous at the very least, Shara was determined to have at least one happy day with her son.
“You look like your father.” Shara mused, it had just dawned on her. He still had her hair, he always did, but his face resembled Kes more and more to Shara.

“Finn, right?” Shara had been eager to meet the person who had saved her son’s life, but it never happened until now. So much has gotten in the way, she never had the chance to.
“It’s nice to meet you, I’m Shara.” She stuck a hand out and smiled. “Poe’s mother.”

He looked at her when she rested a hand on his shoulder. How could she expect him to leave her. “Mom…” he trailed off. She’s not gone- but he can’t stop the familiar feeling in his stomach of what it felt like when his dad sat him down and told him his mom wasn’t coming back.
A sense of duty to cause was something Poe understood. He’d risked his life for the Resistance since the beginning- and the New Republic before that. He couldn’t ask her to stay here and stay safe. “Then… you have to do the same thing. We have to go about this like the other’s not running into the fight…”
“I...” Shara trailed off for a moment. If she was asking him to do the same, she couldn’t refuse the same thing from him. It wouldn’t be fair, but she knew his pain now. Agreeing to not run in the minute you hear your family member had been imprisoned was rough to do.
“Alright, it’s fair enough.” She sighed. “This whole situation is so damn frustrating.”

He knew she was right. Biting his lip, he glances away from her. It was a stupid sentiment and he knew his mom was just doing the exact thing he’s doing. It’s what he would ask her to do- what he is asking her to do in face. “They need you too, mom…That’s what it’s all about right?”
The run to the First Order base was a hastily made plan at best- essentially a free for all. Poe didn’t have anyone he was currently planning to go with… but she didn’t need to know that. “Yeah. I’ll work on it,” he mumbled, putting his hands on his hips, he sighed.
“I can’t lose you again mom. Not right now…. If they capture you? They’re having the Knights of Ren interrogate… you don’t just come back from that.”
“I know they do, it’s just...I know what I have to do, you running in without a thought won’t help anything.” Shara put a hand on his shoulder. How can she ask her own son to do this? It’s what Kes and Shara asked of each other throughout the war, it was the sad and bitter reality of war.
“I know what I’m potentially getting myself into, I’m not changing my mind.” She would be lying if she said she wasn’t afraid of what the Knights can do, that no matter how strong she tried to be against them, it wouldn’t be enough. But she was right on this, she knew it.
