i think what’s happened is george has finally realized tht all the jokes and the flirting tht dream does has some truth to it

like when dream asked george to be his valentine george declined bc dream “didn’t mean it” which is a constant in their relationship previously i.e. shutting dream down or saying something even flirtier to shut him up bc to george it was all just jokes and pandering and held no real weight to their actual relationship as friends

whereas lately george indulges dream’s flirting and reciprocates possibly bc he’s become aware tht dream isn’t joking as much as george thought

so now tht george is aware of this he now realizes the effect he has on dream and the knowledge tht dream genuinely cares, is interested, and is actually flirting with him he feels much more comfortable returning tht energy and is having fun with it (as he should)

confirmation of genuine reciprocity is all george needed to give himself permission to be as openly down bad as dream

tldr: george realized dream is actually down bad and now is both making fun of him for it and returning tht energy bc knowing tht info has made him feel comfy doing so
