First, I think you did a really good job of correlating what you learned to the assignment. If you're trying to focus more on the forward reflection.... you could think about how you will use what you learned in a job you want to have. For instance... maybe you want to one day coach a team of travel players at a high school level. You could say how you would use the idea of thinking about your audience (parents and players) that is related to what you've learned. You could talk about how that group requires a different type of writing than you would do for the social media posts you would use to recruit players. (Sorry if that is a dumb example, I don't remember what you said you were majoring in)
Feedback - Content Reflecting on Learning Essay
Tumblr media
For this section of my content reflecting on learning essay, I was focused on explaining what my approach to writing is. I think I did a good job explaining how I see and approach writing. Further, I explained how my approach to writing has changed. For example, I used to see it as a dull and linear process, but I see writing as so much more than that. However, a part of this section is to focus on reflecting forward. I feel like I did not really do this in this section. Is there anything I should add to make sure I reflect forward on my approach to writing? How did you explain how you are reflecting forward in regard to how you approach writing?

I think the prose is good, it's certainly smoothly written and reads well. While I don't know exactly what the expectation is... when I think of a "reflection", I think it's more how you're feeling about the relationship between the class, what you've learned and what you will do with it that will be aided by this class. Personally, I've liked watching/reading/seeing what you've been doing throughout the class, so if I were to read your reflection... I would like to know how this will help you more specifically... whether that's the useful skills, or what you gained from the "asking for feedback" exercise. It's difficult to "future focus", but based on what you've written, I suspect you have some ideas how the things you've learned will help you. (Perhaps even the experimenting with the design of the posts)
Peer Feedback (week 14-15)
Tumblr media
This is a section from my content reflection essay. In this section, I focused on describing how I developed the employer skills and how it relates to what we did in class and my future career.
Feedback questions:
Does this show the actual "reflection" aspect of the essay, or do I need to elaborate on how I developed these skills further?
Should I relate the skills and reflection to my future in general, or should it be directly related to my specific career?
Does elaborating on specific employer skills that will be more useful to me work, or should I describe each skill equally?

The first step to doing better is knowing where you did wrong. Sounds like this was a great assignment to help you with future projects
What are you most proud for your writing process?
I think that what I am most of right now is the fact that I have caught up on all my work for this class, and so now I can take my time with this writing and make sure it is up to a good standard and not rushed. I find when I have more time to work on something and I don't procrastinate, and it turns out better. (lol crazy I know).

Fun examples and I will add that I am part of the 100% loving your BF’s dog!
How does writing demonstrate creativity?
Writing demonstrates creativity because there are so many different types of writing.
You can convey statistical information: Julia believes 100% of people should love her boyfriends dog (pictured)
You can convey whimsical stories: The 800 blue herons stood in their place, in adoration of the fairy.
You can depict business writing: The Walt Disney Company stocks have declined since the streaming platform, Disney+ came out.
There are so many different types of writing and it allows different options for creativity. Fiction and creative writing are often the styles found using the most creativity.

I like that you mentioned the importance of understanding another perspective. I feel that the worst collaborators are those who are inflexible when it comes to looking at things through another lens.
Collaboration
Collaboration is the ability to share and discuss ideas in order to create. Collaboration requires trust, respect, and creativity. Respect for your partners allows you to see their vision and understand their perspective in a product, as well as have trust in the final revision. Compromise can also be essential in a group task. If you completely take over a task and allow no input from others in the group, what are the chances that any of them will want to work with you in the future? Good collaboration skills are essential for healthy work environments and probably lower stress levels lol.

i LOVE this post!! And the pic you chose is a great representation of what you're saying. We don't all have the same processes, and even when we do... it can be quite different for academic, professional and personal/creative/fun pieces. This is officially my favorite post of any this semester! 🥰
My Writing Process
Tumblr media
My writing process, like many others, is one that is not at all linear. The models that have been pushed on me and my peers throughout my schooling have emphasized a structured, by the numbers approach that, to me, always inhibited the free exploration of ideas by restricting the writing itself into the categories of intro, body, body, body, conclusion. Structure is important, yes, after all it's what keeps these essays and writings readable and polished, but having those conventions define a piece of writing that should be characterized by its substance is a problematic practice. To get back on track, my writing process is loosely structured, as I highlight what my thesis is and a few pieces of evidence and ideas I want to base the paper around, but really I just let out whatever ideas I have floating around in my head (that have to do with the topic at hand) and then I go on to edit them down, bulk them up, or generally polish them.

Curious how Chat GPT is coming into play with critical thinking? Most sources argue that CHAT GPT is a threat to critical thinking. While I can get behind your definition of critical thinking... I'm not clear on how you're relating it to Chat GPT?
How I Understand Critical Thinking
ChatGPT
Critical thinking involves the ability to analyze information objectively, assess its reliability, and make reasoned judgments or decisions based on evidence and logic. It's about questioning assumptions, evaluating arguments, and considering different perspectives to reach well-informed conclusions. This skill encompasses problem-solving, being open-minded, having a strong sense of curiosity, and being able to organize and process information effectively. It's the art of thinking clearly and rationally, essential for making sound decisions and navigating complex situations in various fields.

I think you nailed the definition of a conversation. But communicating (a thought, idea, product) can also be completely one-sided. (For instance, a billboard on the side of the road)
This class had a great deal of one-sided communication. For example when people shared their thoughts/definitions/ideas and no one responded, even though the message was likely read/heard. I feel that for web writing, we need to also understand that there is communication without responsiveness. Specifically, if the measure of a successful YouTube video (for example) is 4% of the views... that means that 4% of the people to whom the message was seen/heard even took the time to "like" it. That doesn't mean that the other 96% didn't get the message.
How I Understand Communication
I understand communication as the ability to converse with another person effectively. This is such an important skill because it is so easy for there to be misunderstandings during conversations. Being able to talk to others, come up with ideas, and understand one another is vital to working and being in school.

I like thinking of writing as a circle. You do need to "circle back", so this a good metaphor for the process!
Tumblr media
What is my writing process?
My writing process is something like a continuous circle where the first step will always be as valid throughout the process, same as the last step. I “research” or gain as much information as possible on the given subject I want to write about, and then put all that information onto a document. Doing this helps me create sentences that flow well throughout points and help me find connections to information I might be able to group up. Once I have the draft down I continue to look for information to support my base. Revising becomes a lot easier when the points you have laid out in your writing are easily listed out.

What do I like most about my essay?
I suppose the thing I like most is that I was forced to think about the future implications of several options.  Being a non-traditional student, it might seem that I have a streamlined plan for my future.  I don’t.  I do have thoughts about a couple of things, and in many ways, they are complicated by the “baggage” that comes from being a non-traditional student. The essay made me dive a little deeper into what the future might look like in each scenario that represents what could be. While doing the assignment didn’t open my eyes to these options, it made me realize that the time to work through the benefits of each is now!

Where will I adjust my essay to strengthen my point?
First, I will listen to feedback from my audience (Dr. P) and make any/all adjustments needed. Until this is available, I will simply remain open to criticism and be prepared to modify accordingly.
I will reread and update (as needed).
I will evaluate and edit/reduce the word choice throughout the essay.
I will condense the word count by modifying the text to be as succinct and direct as possible, while still maintaining the substance of the reflection.

that one is listed in their top "terrible choices" list! :-)
Show that got canceled!
I was a fan of the show of Netflix series that was so going so good and had such an interesting plot. The show was called "The Society" This show really started off well by introducing characters that derived from character development. The show was based on teenagers experiencing some sort of stuck-in time lapses that they can't escape. There are no parents or law enforcement so they are learning how to create a balanced "Society". Crime happens, murder happens and when it's time for someone to take the lead it's up to the teenagers who don't know much but are now forced to grow up quicker than they expected. When Netflix decided to cancel this show it was a shocker because it was left on such a good cliffhanger where the adult's parents and law enforcement were all alive in some alternate time location. From their perspective, there is a memorial of all the teenagers as if they are dead. There were so many loose ends to this show that definitely could've been a 2nd or even 3rd movie. There was so much depth in each person in the show and so much that could've been uncovered for this show that definitely would've kept the audience in the loop.

I like the mixture of both, and I think if I was creating something in that space, seeing what you're telling me supports what you're saying.

Do you guys think that adding images with the tips and tricks is useful or does it make everything look overcrowded?

I like the use of black and white! I do think if it's meant for a specific type of creator, it should include that info.... for instance... Content Creation Guide for Sports Agents, or Web Writing Guide for Football Content Creators
Feedback #2

This is my title page for the writing guide. Does anyone think it could use more color? I got the template from Canva and I like the black and white look but I figured I would ask for other input.

if you are concerned about excluding any one else... you could say something like.... while there are always outliers, you need to focus on who the majority of your audience is. But to a certain degree, you have to focus on the predominant group to satisfy the people who are actually viewing.
Are these pics all real!? :-)

I think I did pretty well on this section of my how-to-write guide. I think I went into an appropriate amount of detail. I am just curious if I am stereotyping. I am well aware there are women and people from areas that aren’t rural that fish. From experience, this is the type of people that fish.
