Nathalie gave Sheridan a real smile, pleased to see someone she genuinely liked after having spent the past few weeks as detached from society as possible. “It’s alright,” she said, waving her apology away with a brief flick of her hand. “To be honest, I’ve been so dependent on coffee these days that I’m usually out of it unless I have a cup in my hand.” Hesitating for a second, Nat realized that this was the first time she’d seen her friend in a while and felt a twinge of guilt. “How are you?”
Sheridan understood that, not feeling real without coffee, except for her, the only time she felt alive was when alcohol was in her system. A nasty habit, sure to kill her, except she couldn’t bring herself to care. “Trust me, I absolutely get it,” she promised. It had been longer than she’d liked since seeing Nathalie and part of her wondered just how much she knew about her life recently. “I’m good,” she said before almost immediately changing the subject before she could think about it being a lie. “How about you, you took some time off, right? Did it help?”

With a halfhearted smile at the barista in front of her, Nathalie handed over her money with one hand while the other clenched her phone a bit too tightly. Hanging up from a phone call with her mother where she endured the same questions about her wedding that she’d been answering for months already, all she could look forward to was getting a bit of caffeine in her system so she could keep her eyes open for longer than ten minutes. While she was waiting for her coffee to be handed over to her, she felt like someone was standing close behind her and when she turned her head to ask them to take a step back, recognized them. “Could you move back a bit?” Nat asked. “You’re hovering.”
Maybe Nathalie wasn’t Sheridan’s closest friend in the world, but they were still friends. And Sheridan, well for as sweet as she was, she was still a little shit from time to time and couldn’t help just getting on her nerves a little bit. Blame not having talked to her in awhile, she had a quota to fill and Nat was the unwilling victim. “Sorry, sorry,” she said, with a slight giggle, stepping back to give Nathalie her space. “I wanted to see how long it would take you to notice me. I didn’t think you were that out of it.”

After their vacation with Monty in Cabo, Tate had been having a difficult time readjusting back into the rhythm of the city and easily found their self seated at the nearest bar sipping on vodka sodas instead of handling the PR nightmare they’d caused for their self. With all of the events that had occurred in the last week, Tate was not in a particularly friendly mood. As the person beside them began to speak to them, it took everything in Tate’s body not to roll their eyes before turning to face her. Sheridan Carrington in the flesh. They’d only heard about Sheridan through the grape vine, but knew she was close with Monty. “Hey,” Tate chuckled. “Mm, yeah, that’s me. What brings you here? I wouldn’t of expected this to be your scene.”
Almost immediately, Sheridan figured out that she was bothering Tate, that the last thing Tate wanted to do was talk to someone right now, especially someone they didn’t know but it was too late. The damage was done and they were already talking but the least she could do was make it less painful. “It’s becoming more and more my scene in recent months. I blame New York,” she replied, trying to keep her tone light and playful. “Buy you a drink?” she offered. Part of making it as painless as possible, proving that she wouldn’t be a burden to talk to. Even if she may as well have been.

A bar was the least surprising place Sheridan had ended up in lately, this one was just the latest in a long line of bars. It was basically a multi day pub crawl. She’d mastered the art of getting drinks quickly (be attractive and look rich) and this one was no different. She sipped at her vodka cranberry, trying to keep her head clear long enough to recognize the face next to her. It took her a second to process that it was Tate, someone she’d heard about but never actually met. She managed a smile for her friend’s partner and moved to sit next to them. “You’re Tate, right? I’m Sheridan.”

quinnxarchibald:
After all that had happened on New Year’s Eve, time didn’t seem to be passing the way it had before for Quinn. Between the arrests and Chessie’s overdose, and the drugs that he himself had been taking life seemed to speed up and then slow down without any warning. He’d been holed up either in the office or in his apartment and he knew that he needed to take a break, needed to get out and see that the world was still spinning.
Slipping into a coffee shop, Quinn looked around before heading over to a table that looked like it was about to be vacated. As he reached it though, he was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar face. “Hey. Thanks! Um…” Quinn paused, looking at Sheridan for a moment before smiling “If you want to stay you can. I won’t take up too much space.”
It was hard to wrap her head around all that had gone down since moving to New York. Before this, it felt like nothing ever happened, she was idling, stagnating, waiting for her mother to step down so she could take over Q and Sheridan could truly begin to live her life. But now things were happening in a whirlwind and Sheridan was becoming a different person with each passing scandal. The fact that there was more than one scandal alone was shocking but after that, each one became less and less so. Down the rabbit hole she went.
Still, looking up at Quinn brought a genuine smile to her face. “Then join me. I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever.” They’d occupied the same space, but haven’t crossed paths since the lock in. There were few people she knew in the city before she moved and with every new friend she made, she felt like she was losing contacts with the old ones. “How have you been, Quinn?”

chessieabernathy:
Running into Sheridan was surprising, to say the very least. She was another stranger turned friend with minor complications, given their drunken hookup. But she’d come to care for the other girl, even if she didn’t know her particularly well. They were friends, even if the fashion world hoped for them to be clawing at the other’s eyes, pulling hair and the like. “I’m fine,” she replied without hesitation, the words losing meaning quickly. “Are you alright?” Chessie couldn’t help but ask, giving her an arched brow before holding her pack of cigarettes out to her to offer one. “I heard about your… run in. On New Years. Sounds like it was a shitty night for everyone, I guess.”
The words sounded hollow coming from Chessie, and Sheridan called bullshit, given how often she’d said them herself, especially in recent months. Absolutely none of them were fine, Sheridan especially but she quashed her own issues and instead tried to be there for her friend. “Are you?” she asked softly, not a single hint of judgement in her tone. The industry wanted them to be enemies, to forget the fact that they were both fully grown women and be catty, snarky, and constantly causing drama with each other. The world wanted to see women tear each other apart instead of lifting each other up. She shrugged, taking a cigarette from the pack with a nod of thanks, lighting up. “Is what it is,” she replied simply, “After the initial state of shock, I got over it pretty quickly.”

chessieabernathy:
Two weeks later, and she was back at FREYA HQ, avoiding side eyes from board members and dodging questions about her ‘retreat’. Fittings were nothing new, but now, her stomach was in knots and a weight sat against her chest, knowing very well that the ‘exhaustion’ story didn’t pass with anyone there. The first chance she got, Chessie stepped out, needing ‘fresh air’ – Which loosely translated to walking four blocks, before stopping for a smoke break. The cold, winter air was oddly welcomed, feeling as though it was waking her up. It was a quiet moment in the middle of chaos in the city – Only to be interrupted by an unexpected guest. “If you’re planning on askin’ about the hospital, don’t bother,” she begins, not bothering to look up as she places a cigarette between her teeth, lighting it with ease. “There’s nothing news worthy about exhaustion.”
It wasn’t like Sheridan had fallen in love after one quick fuck with Chessie, but she was worried. She’d considered her a friend and dealing with her own drama then hearing that Chessie collapsed felt like another weight on her chest, pushing down on it like a brick until she couldn’t breathe. There was an easy fix for it though. Sheridan would ignore her own bullshit and bury it down until it came back to bite her in the ass, if it ever did. She was shit at processing her emotions, so used to just repressing and pretending they didn’t exist. It was what was expected of her and she hadn’t learned how to break free from that yet. “I just wanted to know if you’re okay.” She wasn’t quite sure she believed the exhaustion cover story but it wasn’t her place to call Chessie out on it.

Two weeks, that was how long it had been since word got to Sheridan’s parents that their daughter had gotten herself arrested. Ever since then, she had been dodging calls from them, bitterly wondering why they even cared. Sheridan wasn’t in the mood for them to even pretend, because they only cared about her when it was convenient for them, or when it could ruin their reputation. This was very clearly one thing: Damage control.
She declined another call from them, sipping her coffee and rum that was more rum than coffee at a local coffee shop. It was moments like this she enjoyed herself, watching the world move around her and taking it all in. When the shop got busy and Sheridan was essentially hogging her table, she stood, collecting her things. “You can have this table, I’m leaving anyway.”

“Trust me I’ve been told how weird it sounds, but if you try it you’ll find it actually goes together really well. But that’s what the half-cheese side is for, if you don’t want it,” Monty admitted as he sat down beside her on the couch, “and fine? That sounds…well better than I was expecting you to be. Have you been through this before?”
She held up one hand, dismissing his concerns and explanation for his eating habits. “I’ll try anything once,” she said, flipping over the box and grabbing one of the sides with the toppings to take a bite. “No, I haven’t.” Another bite, “But it’s really not getting me down? Mm, you’re right, this is really good.”

“Hey,” Monty said as he held out the pizza box for her, “I got you this. In hopes that you would share, but you don’t have to. It’s half broccoli and green pepper and half cheese, so hopefully, there’s something there that you like,” he said with a half smile, “though this was really just a really bad excuse to come see how you were doing.”
With a small smile, Sheridan took the box, setting it down on the coffee table in the living room and gesturing him inside. “I’m going to assume you like broccoli and green pepper? Because I don’t think that’s a common topping,” she said, a teasing smirk on her lips. “Of course I’ll share,” she said, closing the door behind him before sitting down on the couch. “I’m actually fine.”

The smell of pizza drifted up from the box as Monty walked into the lobby, hoping that Sheridan was there. Or that she at least would be willing to see him. Part of Monty wondered if he should have called first, but considering that he didn’t know her phone number the thought was gone almost as soon as it popped into his head. Walking to the front desk he asked them to ring for Sheridan and ask if he could come up to her room, and then waited as he hoped the response would be yes.
Part of her realized that she should have asked who it was that wanted to see her, but Sheridan didn’t care. She gave the front desk the okay to send whomever it was up to her room. She’d go down there herself if she wanted to risk having her face seen by people who may or may not be lingering in the lobby. Where she was staying wasn’t public knowledge, but she didn’t feel like taking chances. She hadn’t left her room since getting bailed out. She was waiting for whoever it was when the smell of pizza hit her through the door and she glanced through the peephole. “Hi, Monty,” she said after opening the door.

do you think buffy is going to fire you over this? that'd be too bad, considering you've only just gotten here.
“Buffy ...” She stops and starts a few times, not knowing how to phrase it, or even if she wanted to. Her own dirty laundry is one thing to air but she’s unwilling to drag Buffy into this even more than she already has. “Buffy is angry and I don’t blame her. She has absolutely every right to be. While I don’t know what’s going through her mind and can’t speak for her, I really hope this isn’t the case. I’d hate to leave so soon.”

are you getting deported?
It’s all Sheridan has not to roll her eyes. Of course they’d want to know about this, because that’s the biggest threat to a foreigner. “I’ve held dual citizenship here since I was a child. I won’t have that stripped away over one arrest.”

How does it feel now that everyone knows your now a stereotypical drug addicted model?
“I wouldn’t say addicted.”

Got yourself a record now, don't ya? How's it feel to be bad?
“I know I should be all sad and apologetic and say that I’ve learned my lesson but I really only feel the thrill of it all.”

how do your parents feel about you getting arrested?
“Wouldn’t know,” she said, because it really is that simple. “My parents and I are no longer on speaking terms.” After a moment, she continued as if she was sharing a secret, “But honestly, I hope they’re furious.”
