𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝚮𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝚮𝐄 𝐋𝐄𝐓𝐒 𝚮𝐈𝐒 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃 𝐒𝐋𝐈𝐏 𝚨𝐖𝚨𝐘 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐑𝐄𝚨𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘 he’s faced with the cruelest demons inside his head. the way they claw and scratch their way to the surface of his mind as if they are tearing straight through a paper thin veil. all around feels cold and dark, and he feels the overwhelming feeling of loneliness. there’s no escape from what he’s done, he has to live with it. there are days that he wakes up not feeling as if he deserves the breath that slips in and out of his lungs—not after he has watched the color run from someone else’s flesh—his eyes as cold as he felt. he remembers feeling nothing as their lives slipped away—he remembers the pain endured each time he let his memory slip from his lips. a weapon is required only to be a tool. nothing more, nothing less. words did not accomplish his mission. they wanted only blood to satisfy their desires.

with just one touch he’s stolen from those memories, back into the present. he feels the warmth of sam’s hand over his own. for a moment he can’t breath. his eyes are wide, and full of fear. he knows sam sees this, because he feels him squeeze tighter—as if bucky were slipping from a ledge. bucky felt the corners of his mouth frown, instead of smile—like he felt he should, to say ‘thank you’. guilt, grief and anguish rushed over him like a wave and he was drowning in his emotions as tears filled his eyes. he didn’t need to say it—he could tell sam knew what he wanted to say. as if his soul resonated with his own, he felt calm—he felt at peace in this moment.

they sit side by side on the dock, the sun is going down — everyone else has already headed home, so they are left alone with the boat and the ambience of the waves crashing against the pier. he strains a smile, his arm draped around buckys neck. he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t enjoying himself... what with the view and the company — maybe he felt to comfortable. subconsciously, he caresses his arm nervously.  ❛ never gonna get used to it. ❜ he confesses. ❛ gotta admit, it’s kinda scary… being captain america. ❜ he knew he needed to take on this mantle, not just to honor steve, but to make the world a better place for the younger generations, to give them someone they could look up to. to inspire. even so, the weight still weighed heavy on his shoulders at times.      𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫     ❨ @wintrwolv​. ❩

her smile beamed a crossed her face—her happiness was hard to contain. she had lived through five years without her brother at her side, not knowing if she could go on each day. when he was back that weight was alleviated and suddenly she saw hope again on the horizon. she had forgotten mother’s day all together—her boys were only babies, they weren’t expected to remember holidays in such desperate situations, but with ‘uncle sam’ back in their lives, she now was given the opportunity of being surprised. coming downstairs to breakfast and flowers—not to mention the hand drawn cards that her boys made her. sarah covered her mouth and tears started to fall down her cheeks, the smile never left her face as she gestured for her boys to come hug her. ❝ thank you boys so much! ❞ she squeezed them tightly planting kisses atop their heads. she raised her head to look at sam and canted her head, ❝ thank you, ❞ she mouthed. her eyes seemed to ask him for an embrace as well.

he’d not got a wink of sleep between prepping for mother's day and work. he sat at his makeshift desk watching the boys draw away at cards for their mom, he couldn’t help but smile at the sight. ❛ don’t be too loud... don’t wanna wake your mom. ❜ he reminds them. ❛ can’t have her waking up before foods done. ❜ with that he pushes himself to his feet, taking a peek at the cards they’re drawing he gives a small laugh and makes his way into the kitchen to plate breakfast.

a few minutes go by and he notices her coming down the stairs — the happiness on her face makes him smile. he feels like he’s beaming ❛ happy mother’s day, baby sister. ❜ he moves to her, wraps them all in his arms, and squeezes them. ❛ i love you sis. ❜ he wished he could give her more than just flowers and breakfast — he wanted to give her and the boys everything… but for now, he could only manage this, and this… it’s not perfect but it’s not so bad.

i think the best thing about s/am and b/uckys dynamic is that it can be so many things. there's so many ways we can go about their relationship with au’s. the show did it good, but we can do it better — i do tend to take what the actors portray and say rather than what directors say anyway bc there's no way they weren't friends. a/nthony said it best when he said they went from not wanting to do anything to no with one another to not being able to do it without each other. their relationship and the build is beautifully done, so exploring all the possibilities would be ridiculously fun.
